Two clones...

One with the DNA of the best soldier in history, one with the DNA of the five biggest criminal kingpins the world over.

Both trained to be the best killers possible.

A barcode versus a bandana, a bald head versus a mullet.

So who would win?

Battle conditions:

This is a continuity lapse sometime between Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, when Snake is in his prime and before his trust in the government was completely destroyed. Campbell gives him orders that the head of a dangerous rebellion needs to be stopped before he gains enough power to start an international conflict. Snake is sent in via a HALO jump and lands, but his trajectory is off and he's forced to kill two witness soldiers. Their bodies are found some time later.

The head of the guild, panicking, calls in a specialist to protect him and to kill the infiltrator. Agent 47, the best assassin the world over, if his price is any indication. Luckily for Snake, the government, monitoring the head of the rebellion's outgoing messages, picks up this critical information. Snake is thus privy to it via CODEC.

So, Agent 47 and Solid Snake are both aware of each other's presence. Neither of them know what the other looks like, but they both have the same objective: Find the other, and kill him. Their field of battle is a huge base not unlike Shadow Moses island, where there are plenty of places to sneak around.

Snake has on his person a knife, a silenced PP7, a pack of cigarettes, two rations, a cardboard box, binoculars with thermal settings, one anti-personnel mine, and a pornographic magazine.

Agent 47 has fiber wire, a silenced Silverballer, a silenced SMG submachine gun, two sedative syringes, two poison syringes, a keycard that allows him into every room in the facility, a coin, an RU-AP mine and detonator, and a sausage.

Those are the stakes. So, who wins?

Now that is an interesting match-up, but I think Snake has an advantage - he fights freaky, borderline superhuman opponents daily, while 47's opponents are almost always just normal humans - well, he fought an army of his own clones once, but they had an additional chromosome which means they were retarded.

This gotta be the only example I read in years about the word "retarded" and games mentioned in the same context and getting the facts somewhat right.
Usually its "X is overpowered, its retarded" "U R Retard. NO U" and the like.

My vote would be with Solid Snake for the same reasons. Given some rations he can take a few stinger missiles to the face. 47 will be gunned down by his own men if he tries to run anywhere (I'm not bitter Hitman II, no really).

Huh. I was going to say that since Snake regularly takes on superhuman foes like 47 all the time I figured that he'd have the edge. On the other hand Ocelot, Raven, Psycho Mantis et all really tend to stand out, don't they? Would he even be able to see 47 coming before the piano wire tightens around his neck?

Snake may fight a lot of pretty tough types, but does he ever fight any pretty smart types?

I think I'm going to have to go with 47 on this one. He can maintain a low profile, and is a bit better I think at Stealth. The kind where you can walk right past someone without really being noticed.

If things turned into something where they both start shooting at each other, 47 is probably toast.

I don't think 47 is any better at stealth than Snake is. After all, he makes people shoot on sight when he runs.

My first thought would have been 47.
But Tengu is correct in that Snake has fought a lot of superhuman combatants already. Ridiculously-good gunfighters (Ocelot), Telepaths (Psycho Mantis), people that lug miniguns around without too much trouble (Vulcan Raven), insanely-good snipers (Sniper Wolf), not to mention people. That. Just. Won't. Die. (Liquid Snake). I'm sure that if I had played MGS II and III I could name more examples.

I like 47 a lot, but his style relies more on cunning and stealth. In this respect, Solid Snake is more of a 'brawler' type (the one who takes on tanks and mechas on foot).
My guess is, 47 would sneak up on Snake and garrote him, but Snake's inherent super-soldier reflexes would kick in and he'd break free before he gets completely strangulated. From there on out, he beats the living tar out of 47 through a variety of kung-fu moves before finishing the assassin clone of with a bullet to the head.
