Eyebound Template

The breeding and husbandry of monsters and magical creatures is a common pursuit of mages and arcanists, particularly those with lairs or dungeons in need of protection. It is for just this purpose that Eyebound creatures were first bred. An Eyebound is covered in eyes, almost its entire body becoming a single sensory organ, making them ideal guards. In addition, their many eyes make them capable of powerful magical attacks, an assortment of potent gazes that lets them defend against any intruder. Eyebound monsters might be encountered in almost any dungeon, mage’s tower, or arcane laboratory.

Creating an Eyebound
Eyebound is an inherited template that can be added to any aberration, animal, dragon, fey, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, or vermin.

Size and Type
Animals and vermin have their type change to magical beast; humanoids have their type change to monstrous humanoid. Both gain the augmented subtype. For other creatures, type is unchanged. Size is unchanged.

Special Attacks
An Eyebound retains all the special attacks of the base creature and also gains the following attacks.

Gaze Attack (Su)
All Eyebound creatures have a gaze attack, chosen from the list below. Because an Eyebound is covered in eyes, its gaze attack’s area is a spread, with a radius of 10 ft. for a creature with 5 or less HD, 20 ft. for a creature of 6-10 HD, and 30 ft. for a creature of 11 or more HD. The DC of an Eyebound’s gaze attack is equal to 10 + ½ the Eyebound’s HD + the Eyebound’s Charisma modifier. The list of gaze attacks an Eyebound may choose from is:

Bewildering Gaze: An Eyebound with the bewildering gaze can dull the minds of those caught in its gaze. All creatures caught in a bewildering gaze must make a Will save or take 1d8 damage to either Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma, at the Eyebound’s choice.

Dispelling Gaze: An Eyebound with the dispelling gaze can negate magic within its sight. All creatures caught in a dispelling gaze are affected as by a targeted greater dispel magic, with caster level equal to the Eyebound’s HD.

Draining Gaze: An Eyebound with the draining gaze can emanate negative energy from its eyes to sap the life of those caught in its gaze. All creatures caught in a draining gaze must make a Will save or take 1d8 damage/2 HD of the Eyebound. For every 5 damage dealt by the draining gaze, the Eyebound is healed 1 hp.

Horrific Gaze: An Eyebound with the horrific gaze can terrify those who look upon it. All creatures caught in a horrific gaze must make a Will save or be frightened for 1 round/HD of the Eyebound. Even those that successfully save are shaken for 1 round.

Mesmerizing Gaze: An Eyebound with the mesmerizing gaze can enchant creatures that catch its eye. All creatures caught in a mesmerizing gaze must make a Will save or be charmed for 1 minute/HD of the Eyebound.

Stunning Gaze: An Eyebound with the stunning gaze can halt enemies with a glance. All creatures caught in a stunning gaze must make a Will save or be stunned for 1 round.
