Forgive this golem if the question has been asked before, but will OotS remain 3.5 or switch to 4.0? I am switching to 4th edition anyways, so either way is fine with me.

Yeah it has been asked before numerous times :smalltongue:
Anyway the only person who knows that for sure is Rich but i don't see it happening for now.

Asked about once a week, and sometimes more often.

The answer is certainly not before next year. We need some time to learn the rules so we can get the jokes.
The more general answer is almost certainly not ever. It would be heavily disrputive of everything. Much better just to start another comic.

Those of us who haven't actually played a game of D&D in any format since Icewind Dale II might have a little trouble understanding 4th ed. rules jokes.

I think the jokes will be fairly easy to follow, honestly. It doesn't take much to kinda figure it out, and at the very least...it will still be funny.

On a very slight tangent, does this mean that people with older editions will buy 4e in order to get the jokes? :smallconfused: :smalltongue:

Yes, I'm sure Elan and Thog disappearing entirely from the strip because Bards and Half-orcs no longer exist in 4th edition will be a barrel of laughs... :smallsigh:

Well the reason we saw them upgrade from 3 to 3.5 was because that's exactly what 3.5 was supposed to be, and upgrade version of 3... same rules and everything, but with a few changes... the jump from 3.5 to 4 will be too big a leap for comic...

When they defeat the snarl, the gods reveal the strings were actually 4th edition speculations, and that the snarl is the embodiment of the conflict over fourth edition. And after the Oosters defeat the snarl the gods will convert to 4th ed. And then the dark one or someone will get mad and they'll let the old classes and races stay...

Why would they disappear? Here's an anecdote for you.

Way back in the days of yore, D&D transitioned from first to second edition. RA Salvatore's Drizzt novels were (as now) some of the most well-known D&D-based novels arounds. The director of the D&D novel branch at TSR called up Salvatore one day some months before the new edition came out.

TSR: "Hey. You need to kill off Entreri."
RA: "Um... what?"
TSR: "We're removing Assassin as a class. We're killing off all the Assassins in the Time of the Troubles. You need to kill off Entreri before the release."
RA: "... He's not an Assassin."
TSR: "... What?"
RA: "He's not an Assassin. He's a Fighter/Thief who kills people for money."
TSR: "Oh. Um, okay." *click*

TSR didn't get it (and the TIme of Troubles and the retarded story that all of the world's assassins in the Forgotten Realms gave their souls to power Bane showed that). They didn't get that a class has absolutely no bearing on character or story whatsoever. A character is an archetype. A class is just a set of rules to help players try to emulate a desired archetype.

Elan could be retrofitted as a Sorcerer/Thief. Or he could just keep Bard as a house-ruled class designed by the DM, just like his Dashing Swordsman prestige class.

Actually isn't Bard coming up in the PH2 of 4th edition? So we don't have to worry about Elan so much... or maybe we do, because we don't know much about the bard class...

Sheesh. Time for a sticky? Or perhaps we can display this big, boldfaced and blinking on top of the forum?

There are a lot of threads on this subject. Why is there more interest in whether OotS will convert to 4E than in whether Belkar will kill a scout and take his stuff.
