On second thought, I will present a third theory.

In my focus on the shape (after quickly skimming the page) I stared at it long and hard with no thought to its context near Elan's body. While some people see two faces staring at eachother, I see a vase... What does the shape look like to you?

It seems likely this is an artifact of the artwork. Elan's figure, shirt in particular, was painted in first, and then Haley's figure above that [and possibly Elan's head last of all]. So we see a white triangle as a result of Haley's curves.

Confirmed shirt,

although it looks slightly off colour if you gimp/photoshop/paint the jpeg and compare the colours and line to elan in previous panels you will note that it is his shirt.

and that if you zoom in enough there is a tiny gap where you can clearly capture the purple colour of the backround.

Sorry the engineer in me needed conclusive evidence

Standard geometry exercise, actually. Although you do need to grab a pencil (and if your hand is as shaky as mine, a straight edge) to connect the points eventually.
