November 1st, TR 43175 - 6am

The night was cold and left a layer of frost on the forest's leaf covered floor. The mixed group of former prisoners, outlaws and pseudo undead had camped in a slight depression. The ground here was a gentle slope upwards towards the western hills and the mountains beyond. The trees were now bare of leaves and didn't block the cold wind as it wiped up towards the mountains and its evergreen trees.

The party had been searching, in vain, for some tomb that was rumored to be nearby, but thus far they hadn't even managed to find the markers which were supposed to line the path which leads to it.

The winds picked up this morning, blowing leaves around. Jin, Maern, and Bug Poop awoke this morning to find themselves buried by the wind. However, much to everyone's surprise, the wind had uncovered a pair of stone markers just at the edge of the camp. In fact, Klor's shield was leaning against one of them, but with the thick layer of leaves, no one had seen them.

Krad

Krad stands and stretches, his stiff tendons and the vertebra of his spine creating a muffled symphony, less interested in the stones than most. He fishes a jug of ale from his backpack and chugs a large amount, wipes his mouth with the back of his forearm, and belches with considerable force.

Without saying anything intelligible, he walks a short distance downhill of camp and relieves himself. Letting smarter minds than his figure out which direction to go, he sits and uses a small branch to draw crude images in the frost. "Whats fer eatin'?" he says to no one in particular, intent in his doodling.

Maern

Maern woke up in a somewhat poor mood, what with being covered in leaves and all, but brightened quickly when he saw the markers. A man of average height and slightly below average weight, he looks rather odd with leaves sticking out of his beard. He walks over to the stones and begins to look at them closely.

Wren

Arching her lithe form, catlike, smooth, the bard awakens and draws in the cool morning air.

She had spend the night curled upon a rock outcrop overlooking the small band where she had spend some of the night gazing into the stars in a whimsical daydream. The winds and the chill seem to have no impact upon her cheer whatsoever.

She rises and fritters over to Krad, her savior of the mountain pass. "And what have you been crafting. Ars longa vita brevis! 'Tis beautiful." She pretends to pull a crumpet out from behind the brute's ear and tosses it to him before skipping away.
( Sleight of Hand = [roll0] )

She gathers with the others to view the stones in wonder.

Elias

Elias woke up finding himself cold, hungry and worst of all bored. With a frown on his face Elias stroled around the makeshift encampment. mubling something along the lines of "grmbl, Stupid ambush, grmbl stupid weak followers nearly all got themselves killed. THEY'RE NO USE TO ME DEAD!" (did he just shout that out loud?).

As Elias strolled back towards the encampment he cought a glance of Wren skipping over to the new found rocks. His frown disapeared a little at the discovery of something potentially interesting and fun. He hurried over to the rest of the make shift evil alliance. and as he aproached he let out a "Whats this? anything fun?"

"Oehhhh are there any writings on them" Elias let out as he gave the rocks a swift inspection.

Perplexed, Krad catches the crumpet and stops, watching Wren skip away. He inspects the crumpet for a very short moment, then pops it in his mouth. With little mastication, he swallows it. "We shoulda took more horse... Dat was good eatin'."

Jin Durann

Jin thrashes his arms about, emerging from the pile of leaves.

"At least we didn't get buried in prison..." he mumbles to himself. Then he begins making his own search of the area and the markers.

Takar
Having spent most of the night awake on watch for living beings, Takar is quite annoyed to discover that he overlooked an inanimate object. From behind his cloth prison, he glances at the stones, looking for any insignia he might recognize.

"We should determine the most likely direction to go from here, and then conduct our search in an organized and orderly fashion." Based on whatever clues the party gathers, he attempts to organize the search in a more effective and efficient fashion.
[roll2]

*edit after reading the OOC thread*
"Let's head up the old road." Takar packs up his goods, and once everyone else has done the same, starts walking towards where they think the tomb is. He is carrying his axe read to cut through vegetation if needed (no sense leaving a trail unnecessarily).

While the morning preparations continue Jin's little friend, Not Foot, runs around the camp digging around in the leaves for other signs. Eventually he takes up position squatting on one of the stones like a miniature gargoyle.

Klor finishes up his morning prayers and prepares to follow the vampire kin down his 'road'. This road exists strictly in the imaginations of the viewers as the centuries have totally eliminated every trace it ever existed except for these two stones.

As the team waits for their cleric, Rellus harasses Takar about the tomb, attempt to dig information out if his undead brain regarding the treasures which might lay within its ancient walls.

Takar
"Rellus, I haven't been there. Being non-living doesn't automatically tell me everything about all tombs everywhere in the realm. He had some children, so he probably left most of the "good stuff" to them. If it connects to a cave system we'll have plenty of room to live, though. If not, it may be a bit cramped."

Elias

After breaking up his own little encampment (which wasnt all that much) Elias followed Takar (who seemed to know where he was going)(who seemed to know where he was going) while mumbling "yes... A nice little dungeon could be a great place to rebuild our efforts... well or atleast my efforts*silent chuckle*" . Hoping that soon there'd be fun suprises at the end of the trail.

DYING to kill some time Elias attempts to stir up some conversation... In a loud voice he calls out "So what were you all in the prison caravan for?" winking to Jin "nice horns by the way"

Krad

Helping Takar cut through the growth, in part due to him needing extra space and in equal part because it's something to do, Krad chortles at Elias' question. "You know why Krad was in da caravan! To be breakin' dese peoples out! You funny!" Still chuckling at the absurdity of the question, Krad pushes a small tree out of his way, partly uprooting it.

Wren

The lass wraps her shall tightly around her shoulders, hands clasped inside. She follows a few steps behind the crew as she had for much of their journey.

Hazel eyes gaze into the depths of the forest, full of scared curiosity. Absently, no even aware of the act, she sings to herself the song...only sung by a female:

Rellus scowls at Takar and says, "I just thought, seeing as you were the one that knew about this place, you might have heard something."

...

Soon enough everyone is packed and ready to move out. This late in the year, the underbrush isn't very thick, but the branches are sharp and they scratch and snag on everything. Following the imaginary road down into the forest, the team finds another pair of markers about 500 feet down the path.

About 100 feet beyond that, Krad steps on a branch that makes a bone crunching sound at it breaks. Suddenly, the leaves in the area all begin to rustle as a number of skeletal(and nearly skeletal) wolves rise up from beneath ground cover.

Round 1
The two skeletons that rise around Krad both attempt to bite the ogre, but their skeletal snaps miss. Wren steps up and lashes the still flesh covered zombie, attempting to distract it enough to allow Rellus to strike. Instead, the Zombie snaps at Wren, and comes close enough that its plague filled mouth it only just barely turned away by Wren's black leather armor.

Krad, on the other hand, is less subtle. With a roar, he smashes one of the wolves into bone shards that go flying 30-40' through the trees. Meanwhile, one of the other skeletal wolves snaps Elias, taking a chuck of the half-elves flesh out. Seeing the effect the wolves have on unprotected flesh, Bug Poop steps back and casts a defensive spell.

Another of the skeletal beast steps up and snaps at the halfling barbarian, but the little fella manages to avoid the bite. The halfling swings his 'massive' greatsword in counterattack, but doesn't manage to cause any damage to the wolf.

Rellus tumbles around the zombie and pierces it in the back with enough force that the beast should at least have howled in pain.. but it did not. The zombie which arises near Jin, bites a hunk out of his flesh as the Tiefling prepared to move away.

Maern side steps and slashes the undead wolf near the undead vampire. The vampire, on the other hand, just can't seem to land a blow on his fellows. Elias strikes for him and the steps back away from the zombie wolf.

Jin tumbles away from the Zombie and join's Not Foot's epic battle against the a skeletal wolf, slashing it with his even larger greatsword. Two more skeletal wolves attempt to bite Klor and Rellus, but each miss. Klor not willing to put with that sort of thing, smashes the nearby wolf skeleton turning its frail body into dust. Finally, the last of the zombies bites at Krad, missing by a long shot.

Round 2:

The skeletal wolf near Krad again attempts to bite him, but misses again. Wren lashes the nearby zombie, after stepping back away from it. It, in turn, continues to try to bite Rellus, but the rogue manages to avoid its diseased maw.

Krad turns his greatsword to the nearby zombie and slices it cleanly in two parts... both dead. Another skeletal wolf bites at Elias, but misses. Bug Poop focuses the wrath of the goblin race on the nearby Zombie and stabs it with a magic missile.

The skeletal wolf fighting Jin and Not Foot bites at the halfling, but the little guy easily dodges out of the way and then counter attacks. His blow strikes the skeleton, but doesn't seem to do any damage. Rellus doesn't do much better. His strike has power, but doesn't hit the zombie at all.

The zombie wolf behind Maern bites the human in the leg and manages to remove a good sized piece of flesh. Maern in turn focuses his attack on the Zombie between him and the vampire, slashing it. The Vampire strikes it right afterwards, hitting it with his battle axe, nearly knocking it over.

Elias pierces the skeleton, which bit him last round, but doesn't manage to damage it when his shortsword glances off the skeleton's bone structure. Jin, on the other hand, slashes the skeleton near him with his greatsword and ends up smashing the skeleton into small fragments.

The skeleton that moved up behind Rellus continues to try to bite him and continues to fail. Klor, making a fine example for his god rushes over to the nearby zombie and swings his morningstar in a mighty blow, that just misses.

The final skeleton fight with Krad does manage to rip a small hunk of flesh from the big man's leg. Wren continues to antagonize the zombie near Rellus which, in turn, bites a significant chuck out of Rellus' torso.

No doube angry about his pant, Krad demolishes the nearby skeleton. The skeleton near Elias snaps at Elias' arm, but misses. Bug Poop stabs at his foe, also missing with a groan. Not Foot, not wanting to duplicate Bug Poop's miss, rushes over and puts himself between the zombie and Wren and then slashes it with his small great sword.

Rellus, unable to move because of the zombified wolf, instead starts to circle around it, at least breaking the flanking situation he had gotten into. His strike is true and his rapier sinks deep into the beast. The zombie near Maern, bites him again and again rips out a piece of the man's flesh. Maern plunges his dagger into the other zombie, finally putting it down.

Takar, seeing his zombie fall, steps to the side and slashes the nearby skeleton engages with Elias. His blow is true, but the blade doesn't shatter nearly as many bones as he'd hoped. Just as he pulls his blade away Elias steps back and blasts the skeleton with a burst of fiery magic.

Jin steps up and with a massive swing of his great sword scores what would have been a critical blow, if only the skeleton had organs. The skeleton survives and snaps back at the tiefling, but misses the agile man. Finally Klor steps around and smacks the nearby zombie, which keeps biting Maern, with his morningstar.

Round 4:

Wren continues to give the nearby undead a lashing, thus allowing Rellus to maximize his efforts. The zombie wolf, apparently displease with his lashing turns and bite Not Foot's Hand. Krad, in a bizarre move, rushes past the zombie and then turns and attacks from what should have been behind. However, the zombie turns and bites at the half-human as he moves. Obviously distracted by the movement of the zombie, Krad swings and misses, his scimitar simply glancing off the zombie's fur.

Bug Poop turns and sprays acid on the skeleton's attack Rellus. Not Foot joins in, slashing the nearby zombie to death. Free of attackers, Rellus withdraws, having decided that discretion is better part of valor.

The zombie wolf which has been biting Maern's rear turns his attention to Klor and bites at the HalfOrc's ankle, but misses. Maern, in turn, stabs the zombie wolf again. Takar, having decided the skeleton was dead enough, moves around to a flanking position with Klor and slashes the zombie.

Elias also moves around to engage the last of the zombies and with Takar in his new position has to get really tricky with his aim, but still manages to cast his spell without hurting any of his companions. The zombie, however, doesn't seem very fazed by the spell.

Jin slashes the final skeleton with his greatsword and nearly destroys the undead beast. He does anger the beast which snaps at him fruitlessly. Last, but not least, Klor smashes the last zombie upside the head with his morningstar.

After arranging the bodies and skulls as a warning to those that might come this way, the band of evil doers continues their journey. The path and the markers help and after an hour or so, they find something. Krad steps and the ground seems to give out and he stumbles forward.

When he lands he has compressed a massive pile of leaves that have accumulated in a depression. As he struggles to stand, he finds that the depression has steps heading down. Fumbling around he eventually clears enough of the leaves away to see a dozen or so steps lead down to a pair of stone doors. The area above the doors is flush with the rest of the ground in this area. It would seem that beyond the doors is some sort of underground chamber, but you'll have to open them to know for sure.

As the team examines the small room, they find little of interest. Some old spiderwebs and years of dust and dirt which blew in through the cracks in the doors.

The symbol of Pelor is warm. It literally radiates warmth, which Takar, finds uncomfortable, or perhaps it is just the proximity to a holy symbol. If Pelor is the patron god of the family, it is often placed in tombs. In addition, when people die horrible deaths, Pelor's symbol is often placed in and around their burial site to put the soul at ease and prevent spontaneous undead creation.

Jin searches high and low, but finds no additional traps, doors, or hidden things. He does discover that the wall the family crest/holy symbol are on has a room behind it. The left-hand and right-hand walls are solid thick stone with nothing behind them. The far wall is relatively thin and has some sort of space behind it(based on knocking on the wall). He does find some strange dirt at the base of the holy symbol. Blackish/gray and fine, or powdery(instead of gritty).

Or we could sell it to someone in town.

The symbol, painted on the wall, seems to become more detailed in the brief moment of light. No door or other means of egress has become apparent.

Klor speaks up and says, "I cast light if you think it would help." The priest gets close to the symbol and asks, "What of the warmth? Maybe use fire or direct sunlight?"

Klor flips over his gold holy symbol to reveal a smooth almost mirror-like back side and he raises an eyebrow.

Using the short sword and gold holy symbol(the toad isn't very shiny) Elias and Klor reflect sunlight down the stairs and then angle it towards the wall but Krad is standing in the way. After a moment he steps aside and the sunlight hits the symbol.

With a massive burst of light, the holy symbol seems to burst into flames momentarily and a crack appears in the wall. The wall, now two doors, each swings inward into a dusty chamber.

The chamber is about 20' wide and 25' long. In the center is a raised platform, upon which is a sarcophagus. The sarcophagus is just plain stone, although the stone is a mottled white marble.

Along the walls of the chamber are old rotten tapestries, drapes and other similar wall coverings. Several painted portraits lay on the floor, having fallen off the walls years ago. While old and damaged, they show a strong noble man with a gray mustache and reddish hair.

Piled in front of the sarcophagus are several really dry bundles of flowers and a couple pieces of parchment.

The continued detailed search of the room turns up little more of interest or value. A couple of the dusty old pots seem to be made of rare clays and show exquisite craftsmanship. A large bowl under one of the more rotten tapestries seems to have about a pound of unburnt incense. One ripped painting has a small placard under the portait which reads Lorenth 'Estate'. The placard, about 1 inch by 2 inches seems to be made of gold and is probably worth 4-5 gp.

No doors, traps, or hidden passages are detected. The walls, floor, and ceiling are all constructed using large stone blocks.

Inside the sarcophagus, a very old dried up corpse lay on its back. The bugs have done their job and left very little of the man intact. His clothes didn't fair much better. His studded leather armor and boots seem, remarkably, intact. On his left side on the bottom of the sarcophagus is a long thin piece of wood, probably cedar. Perhaps it used to be his bow.

I'll suggest we travel to Blanco and buy what ever we can there posing as adventurers or whatnot. there we can try to dig out some information on good raid targets. and on our way back here look for a raiding oppertunity. and if we really get lucky pick up some minions on the way back"

Wren walks up and down the small crypt while listening to the conversations. At once point she backs into Bug Poop, nearly falling over the little snot. She seems to bend unnaturally and kick out at the last second to catch a heel in the sarcophagus lid, twisting into a balanced pirouette before finding herself oddly back on her feet without incident. The surprise on her face is evident she did not feel in control of that course of action.

"Ohh, they should make all heeled shoes with whatever these boots have!" She wiggles as ankle back and forth, "Maybe the old sack of bones moonlighted as a male dancer...fantastic."

As the 10 person group marches on through the woods toward Blanco for a shopping expedition prior to attacking the caravans. Blanco is about 15-20 miles away from the crypt, through the forest. The travel is slow as no path through the forest between the crypt and Blanco exists. It will take about 2 days to walk that distance.

About 7 hours into the first day's march, the party starts to get a strange depressed feeling and everyone starts to glance around looking at the trees and bushes. It feels like the party is being followed or that they've wandered into the domain of something. It feels like something is out there, watching, sizing up the party, readying itself to attack.

A short while later, Maern, Bug Poop, and Klor altogether say, "What was that?" Peering around into the forest, the party sees the occasion flash of movement or pair of eye peering out of a dark shrub, but nothing definitive. Nothing that could be attacked directly.

Listen Check:

DC 9 : Snap of a twig about 120' (that way)
DC 11 : as above plus a strange clicking sound off in another direction
DC 14 : as above plus more clicking in multiple directions
DC 25+ : Movement of multiple small creatures along the forest floor each making clicking sounds.

Spot Checks :

DC 23 : Glimpse of a 2' tall hunched over brown figure darting between trees and bushes 140'+ away.
DC 25 : Glimpse of another one. Some sort of insect maybe. Spiky/spines on back, like a porcupine maybe.
DC 31+ : Several of them. Occasionally when seen they seem to disappear while in plain sight.

Elias, unsure what to do, follows Krad when the ogre moves forward. Just then, Takar is struck with a sudden feeling of dread, loathing, and fear. Rellus and Takar, looking around don't see anything, but move off together towards the sound. Krad moves towards one of the voices, Elias, lingering a step or two behind.

Rellus sees one of the little creatures scurry out of its hiding place, moving from one tree hiding place to the next.(#1) Takar, up in the tree near where the group was accosted, looks around and finds that all of the foliage prevents him from even seeing the rest of the party except Wren. Maern moves off in the opposite direction and spots one closer than he expected. Moving up behind it, he bends over and stabs it with his dagger. Hearing the sounds of battle, Klor Flog moves up to assist. He stabs at the little creature with his mighty spear, but only manages to stab the dirt. Bug Poop moves south a bit and lashes out at the same foe with a Magic Missile.

Maern and Klor Flog hear a subtle poof and suddenly waves of fear sweep over them. Maern is overcome and drops prone then rolls up in a ball hugging his knees and weeping. Klor's sturdy heritage allows him to shrug off the effect.

Wren begins to sing and opens a metaphysical door, drowning out the whispering sounds of the foe. Jin and Not Foot strike out to the flanks and find the same foe engaged with Klor and Maern. Seeing Maern down on the ground, Not Foot encourages Jin to move in and attack. Jin moves up into a flanking position with Klor and slashes his greatsword at the puny creature striking it dead. Not foot moves up to assist only to find the creature dead and simply says(in Orcish), "A powerful slash."

Krad moves up to near where the sounds were and looks around for a foe. Krad gets lucky and manages to glimpse the little fiend as it hides near a tree(rolled a natural 20 for you). However, Krad doesn't have time to smash the little creature.

The creature cornered by Rellus and Takar suddenly seems more fearsome and it simply disappears with a poof. Maern continues to be curled up on the ground weeping for mercy. Klor notices another of the beasties nearby and moves around and attempt to stab it with his spear, but hits a nearby tree instead.

Bug Poop, off away from everyone else seeing Klor attacking something out of sight, so he decides to cast Mage Armor to augment himself. The tiny fiend that Klor has cornered suddenly seems fearsome and slashes at Klor Flog slashing the massive orc's leg. The awesomeness of this little beastie spreads out over Klor, Jin, Not Foot, and Maern(who just whimpers even move).

Wren continues to play. There are no more whispers, but plenty of fear. Not Foot moves up after both Klor and Jin drop to the ground just like Maern did. The halfling slashes at the tiny creature. The slash from the small greatsword breezes over the beast's head and Not Foot misses

The tiny creature hiding near Krad focuses its evil thoughts, fears, and awful suggestions into Krad's mind, while continuing to think it is hidden. Krad pushes them aside and readies himself for smash time.

Looking down on the carnage Krad made Elias simply says "Nice" (southpark Kyles brother has a relationship with his kindergarden teacher nice)

After a quick survey of the battlefield (assuming Elias has a LOS to #3) Elias again turns to Krad. "hey look! theres another one to smash over there!" he says as he points to the spikey little fiend. "best to keep the bigman occupied while hes raging"

Everyone settles down and tries to find a soft comfortable spot in the forest to rest. As the sun dips to the horizon, the air grows cold and breezy as Autumn rears its brisk head.

Jin and Not Foot spend the first couple hours sparring to keep warm and maintain their alertness as they also watch for trouble. The worst trouble they find is a couple of curious squirrels and a skunk that started digging nearby once the sun went down.

After several hours, Takar awakens takes over for the dynamic duo, allowing them to go to sleep. He watches through most of the night till it is nearly sunrise when Krad gets up to help out. The morning is quiet and still, all the birds have moved south for the coming winter.

{{ Anyone down wisdom points recovers 1 point over night. }}

In the morning everyone awakens to the sound of Krad's stomach grumbling.

{{ Takar has a ring of sustenance, but is everyone else eating rations? The NPC's all had rations, so they eat that. Someone want to make a Survival check to find food? }}

Everyone marches through the day and in the afternoon, smoke can be smelt as the team gets close to the village. The village of Blanco is just ahead, about 500' further through the forest and then across some barren fields. The village is composed of a hundred or so wooden and mixed wood/stone buildings. Most have thin lines of smoke rising from their chimneys.

Few people can be seen from this distance, but the sound of axes can be heard. Sounds like nearly a dozen wood cutters are out felling trees in a last ditch effort to prepare for winter.

Those able and willing to enter the village without causing a ruckus do so. Everyone else stays just inside the edge of the forest and slowly circles around to the north and eventually to the northwest edge of town so they can proceed to the designated ambush point once the rest of the team returns from shopping and quizzing the locals.

With winter almost upon the team food is in great demand, but the harvest just happened and so food is also in great supply. Thus Krad's proxy is able to purchase his rations at their nominal prices(10 gp for 20 days).

2. Larry runs the general store. He contracts with several merchants in the kingdom who deliver to the store. He can arrange to order anything you may need.

3. You've got several bands of giants in the mountains. You've got Gnolls attacking along the road near Eastpass. You've got orcs in the far eastern woods. Goblins in the forest around the town to the south. Kobolds to the west in the plains on the other side of the ridge.

4. Knowledge. Check.

5. Charming. Check.

6. Perform. [roll0] Not very prosperous village, etc.

Krad

The half-ogre examines the boulders, judging them in the areas of "tossability" and "rollability." If need be, his stonemasonry tools are with him.

Takar climbs up the hill and finds a shady spot with good concealment where he can use his bow without being reached easily (at least 60' from the road, with rough terrain or a small bluff hopefully between him and the road).

Situational modifiers for distance & un-awareness will probably apply to the merchants as well.

Taking Takar's lead, Krad also tries to find a spot to hide.

If possible, Krad will take 20 to hide when appropriate. (18 total) If not possible...

The bard wanders down to the trails edge and finds a place to sit along the path. She lays out her whip hidden behind a rock just behind her, readied to be grabbed, and checks her hidden weapons are in place.

She smiles and makes small talk with passers by about the route, their travels, and the weather. During this time she will appraise their loads and tries to spot a bountiful haul.

spot [roll0] appraise [roll1]

Before leaving the lass arranged a signal to the others as to which caravan to hit. She will try to convince the guards to leave the wagons through trickery, hypnotism, or simply fascinating them. If she can get them to leave the main trail and split up, all the better for the ambush.

just let me know when she thinks she has a good wagon. One with useful items rather than useless expensive ones. (re-selling might get us caught so trying to minimize risks for now). So weapons, armour, food, mining supplies, or prisoners to rescue and recruit or the like.

The Plan
She will likely start off with a good lie, followed up by a concealed spellcasting blast of hypnotism, then fascination, leading guards astray. Eventually confusion and try more lies to even get them to turn on each other if possible before. Hopefully they will be confused, alone, and spread out from the goods before anyone needs to even roll initiative....ah the joys of a bard.

Elias

As he listened to the young lady as she layed out her plan. he nodded and smiled. "Sounds like fun". Altough it seems that he doesnt feel totaly comfortable leaving one of "his chesspieces" out in the open like that. he also realises that joining her along the road would only raise suspision.

He'll join the rest in their well hid ambush spot and casually keep an eye on wren while trying to kill time. If he can do so without being in the open he'll carve immages into one of those leafless trees using his shortsword.

Everyone tries to hide, except Wren who pretends to linger along the road in a non-suspicious sort of way. As the sun sets in the sky, Wren hears an approaching wagon. Once the caravan closes the distance, she finds herself faced with a large wagon pulled by two heavy draft horses. Riding along with the wagon are four men on horseback armor in breastplate. None wear helms, but all wear cloaks which conceal their fish swords. The horses have a light leather barding and no visible weapons.

The wagon is like a shed or small cottage on wheels. You can't really see anything inside it nor any of its contents. She does notice 6 axes tied down along the top edge of the wagon. The wagon is driven by a cloaked figure, slight of build, sitting next to a large burly bald man with a brown beard.

"Concealed" Hyponotism? Casting a full round spell isn't going to be concealed. I can't find any rules on concealed casting unless you have certain feats/tricks/etc.. which you don't.

You get the feeling that the wagon contains goods(not people). You can't see anything, other than the axes. The drivers and riders scrutinize Wren, especially one of her complexion appearing so soon after sunset. The cloaked figure, who you think may be a woman, scowls at you, while the large bald man smiles as Wren approaches.

OK, here is Wren's opening bluff.

Also, she has the Concealed Casting Skill Trick (listed under skills near the bottom) lets her sleight of hand vs spots to cast without being noticed. ))

The lass curtsies nervously and meets the bald man's gaze with a fearful face. "I beg your pardon lords, but I pray you can help me," she approaches the bald man's horse wearily, looking around the trees. "My father send me out, desperate to find help, for our hut was ransacked just this morning over the bend. I've been traveling to the point of exhaustion and feel faint. But I couldn't stop for I fear... I fear a few of the bandits may have followed me and I don't know what they'll do is they get me."

The lass looks to the trees ((opposite side of the road from where the party is at)) and gasps, cringing near the man's horse, "There, there is the trees is one of them," her gaze sweeps around toward to party, "and there," she tries a fearful nod to point out Elias, "there is the second brute poorly hiding there in the shrubs and waiting until you're gone to take me. I beg you sir, please help me, surely such strong warriors could charge up a few to each side and scare them off....please sir ((Big Bamby eyes))."

She will ready a Concealed hypnotism to cast on the cloaked figure once the guards leave - if they grant her request.

If something else happens like they all go one way, do nothing, or some stay behind she will cast it on the cloaked figure and any guards who stay.

I will RP the hypnotism and request once I see how the guards react and move

The soldiers on horseback adjust themselves and draw weapons, but don't move away from the caravan they were hired to protect. The bald man says, "Aw. We should help." The cloaked figure speaks in a feminine voice, "Perhaps we escort her with us to Blanco." Why does a farm girl have a shield?

When Wren starts casting a spell, the woman gets wide eyed and says, "Its a trap!" In a smooth motion she thrusts her arm out from her cloak, dagger in hand and throws it at Wren. Her aim is true, but she didn't account for Wren's leather armor which stops the blade. The bald man grabs the reigns and urges the horses forward, but they are slow to react.

The front right-hand rider, not having noticed the spell is looking around for the trap, his attention focusing on the position where Maern and Rellus are hiding.

The rear right-hand side rider moves up quickly and swings his sword at Wren, who is still casting her full-round spell. The man's sword strikes Wren again, but again doesn't penetrate Wren's leather armor.

OOC

Everyone is up the hillside behind Wren and slightly ahead of the caravan. Its 130' to the closest horseman(front right), 175' to the furthest(back left), and about 140 to the drivers(cloaked woman and bald man). It is difficult terrain to run down, so max of double move without a tumble/balance check.

If people intend to attack, roll initiative. If you want to let this one go, maybe just need to defend Wren(or let her be killed).

Perhaps we can still salvage this attack...but otherwise Jin will add to the overall confusion...

Upon seeing the soldier initiate some sort of attack on Wren, Jin leaps from his hiding place and comes hurtling towards the caravan followed quickly by Klor, Not Foot, and Maern. Jin, attempting to close fast enough to attack and save his daughter, trips and falls. He turns into a spinning ball of tiefling, greatsword, rock, and dust, coming to a stop just 10' from the front rider, albiet with a few small cuts

Elias follows him down, but manages to not looks his footing and ends up standing next to Jin's dusty dirty prone form. Takar moves slowly forward and uses his bow to give the drivers something to think about. Bug Poop fires a Magic Missile at the soldier nearest to Wren. Rellus comes out from his hiding place and moves up towards Maern.

Wren finishes her spell and gives her instructions. The bald man stands up and grabs a bastard sword which he had stowed amongst the axes on top of the wagon and readies himself to repel boarders. Seeing Takar's arrow his the bald man, the woman hops out of the wagon and casts a spell. When she is finished, a glowing red pea streaks from her hand up the hill and detonates near Maern, Rellus, and Takar, enshrouding them in flames which also ignite some of the small bushes on the hillside. Rellus is overcome by the attack and drops to the ground, a burning pile of flesh.

The draft horses which are pulling the wagon stop and turn their heads to the side towards Wren and make a 'wwrruugher' noise. The sudden stop causes the bald man to tumble off to the ground on the near side of the horses.

Maern rushes over to Rellus' fallen form and he drops to his knees along side the flaming remains.

The soldiers near Wren swing their swords slashing flesh from both her arms draining what little color she had from her face. The soldiers on the far side of the wagon circle around and close on Elias and Jin, but fail to connect with their blades.

Not having a clean shot at the woman, who was down behind the wagon, horse, and various people, Elias scorches one of the soldiers near Wren. The strike doesn't kill him, but does set the poor man on fire. Krad, not having a clear line to charge the woman, what with the wagon, horses, and guards in the way, smashes on of the guard instead, taking him out of the picture.

Takar moves slowly down the hill firing his bow at the bald man engaged with Jin, but his shot deflects off the man's chest. Bug Poop fires another Magic Missile, this time at the woman. Wren step's back from the onslaught and starts to sing her happy happy song(not). The bald man swings his bastard sword at Jin, but doesn't connect. Jin moves quickly to close the distance between him and the sorceress.

Maern, focused on revenge, runs at full speed down the hill and right up to the soldiers, intent on exacting his revenge. The soldiers slash at Krad and Maern missing them on both accounts. Elias rushes up, but finding Maern in his way of his spell, stops short and cast his spell around Maern. The spell takes out the two horses as well burning one of the soldiers to death. The other falls from his mount, but lands without injury.

Krad smashes the mounted soldier and glances around for a new target. Not seeing the fallen soldier(4), he instead takes a step towards the sorceress. Takar slowly closes on the caravan while firing his bow at the sorceress. His aim is true and his arrow strikes her in the shoulder. Bug Poop also moves up slowly while casting another Magic Missile at the mage.

Wren moves back, taking cover behind Klor while she continues her song. While her bardic magic had no direct effect, it certainly was turning the tide this round.
