Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
The moon is full, never seems to change
Just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, no windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred

Sleep, my friend, and you will see
The dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
Can't they see it's why my brain says “rage”

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Build my fear of what's out there
Cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
But violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He's getting better, can't you tell?

No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
But they think this saves us from our hell

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Sanitarium

Just leave me alone

Fear of living on
Natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
Got some death to do
Mirror stares back hard
kill is such a friendly word
It seems the only way
for reaching out again
-Welcome Home by Metallica

You wake up slowly, dreamily, looking around you with eyes that have spent the last day closed in an unearthly sleep. You can't remember who you are, or where you came from. You can barely remember how to speak. The room you are in is a 7' by 7' by 7' cell, with inch thick iron bars spaced two inches apart blocking you from leaving. There is a 1 foot square wooden gate through which the guards have been passing you food. They have also told you your name, and that you are "cured" of the insanity that brought you here, but have told you nothing more. You sit in your cell, and you wait....................

Seven days later, as you are sleeping, a voice intrudes into your mind. "Come find me" it asks. "I will save you" it says. "I will help you bring punishment to those who have wronged you" it promises. "Now is your chance" it says, now a thousand voices echoing as one. The door to your cell slowly swings open.......................

Adahn

Adahn sits lays still for many minutes before uncurling himself and getting slowly to his feet. Save me? Save me from what?! Where am I? Adahn collects his fractured faculties and peers around the door into the space beyond.

Gauge cautiously stepped outside his cell. Not particularly impressive in stature, his body was hard with scars and muscle as he stood in the cold. He ignored the cold that he felt on his naked skin, wearing only the soft cloth pants they had given him.
They didn't say I could leave... but they didn't say I couldn't, either. And why do I care what they say? They locked me in a cage for no reason. Yeah, I think I'll leave. He looked around him, trying to ascertain something about his surroundings. Even as he stood there, just released after his imprisonment, he wore a wide, open smile. He scratched his blond hair, seeming non chalant, but in all actuallity he was ready for someone to come running at him. They wouldn't let him leave without a fight. But he was ok with that.
Calling Olive for my color. Readying a trip action for anyone who comes at me. Taking a 20 on both spot and listen, for a result of 20. Time to kick some tail. If someone comes, I'll have these rolls ready to lay smack down. Melee touch attack Trip Attempt and an unarmed strike for good measure [roll2] to hit and 1d6+3 lethal damage. No kid gloves for these punks.

Ashmael slowly roused from his sleep. Although it had been short, it had been natural and that made it the best he'd gotten in awhile.
At first, he didn't seem to remember the voice, writing it off as hopeful dreams of freedom and vengeance.

Of course, this all changed when he saw the door slowly swing open. With a jolt, he was on his feet and ready if anything were to come through the door.

Within a couple of minutes he was ready to examine what had opened the door, and slowly walked up to the door. ...this is rather odd...are they letting me go..? he quietly whispered to himself. Talking to himself was something he had unconsciously picked up during his time of solitude, and it just sticks with him.

Peeking around the corner of the door, he tried his best to make himself invisible.

Move over to the door and look through while trying not to be seen.

Hoch Shorthaft

Hoch puts his hand tenderly on his brow, eyes tight with pain. He was tired, his head hurt, and he had no idea where he was. And at that last thought he sat up with a snake-like lunge and looked wide-eyed around him.

He was a dark-skinned gnome with rough, work-callused hands and a hard dead gleam in his dark blue eyes. His black hair was clipped short, and his beard and mustache might have been neatly trimmed at one point, but his stay in the facility had made them overgrow. Right now it was matted and disfigured, for during his stay he hadn't bothered to do so much as run a hand through it. Though his build was slim, it would be wrong to call him weak. He was lean and powerful with a body meant to weather any punishment that it received and utilize maximum potential.

He scowled at the hallway and stalked boldly out into it. There wasn't any cover to hide behind, so if he was going to be caught, then he'd be caught.

You can't ready action outside of combat. Nitpick.

As you step out into the hallway, you see three other people do the same thing. The hallway is ten feet wide, so that the guards don't have to come close to the cells. On the wall opposite the cells there is nothing but a torch space every 10 feet. There are 2 cells to the left of the ones that you all left, and two in the other direction. At the left end of the hallway there is nothing but a solid stone wall. To the right there is a heavy wooden door with now handle on this side. You cannot see into the other cells because you are not close enough.

Adahn

Adahn starts when he sees the others and criesThank God! I thought I'd never see anyone again! You have to help me! I've no idea what's going on, I can't remember anything! What am I doing here?! What am I being saved from?!

Adahn grabs the shoulders of the scarred, blonde man and shakes him desperately, though feebly. His eyes are wild with fear and confusion.

Gauge watches the distressed man shake him with a smirk.
Hell if I know. I just know that I'm tired of that room, and now I can leave. I'm assuming you all were here for "treatment" as well?
He pulls himself away from the wildly shouting man, looking at the others.
Are they crazy? Hope not. They'll only slow me down if they are.

Ashmael walks into the hallway.

I'm going. I don't care what you do, but I'm going to get to the bottom of this.

Hoch

Hoch gives the panicking man a cold, assessing look and then frowns pointedly. His gaze flicks briefly, thoughtfully over each of the others, and then he hurries after Ashmael. Wait up now. Can't walk as fast as you do.

[roll0]

Ashmael - you never described him. I don't even know what race he is.

Gauge smiles and begins to follow the others at a measured pace.
This should be interesting, at least.
Here comes the crap shoot for listen. [roll0]

You all hear the sound of a man on the other side of the only door out, he is coughing and mumbling to himself about how "I can't get no good jobs, just standin' here watchin' this damn empty room".

My apologies to Adahn, I rolled for you because you had not posted for a few days. I will feel free to do this for anything where there is no major decision to be made.

Hearing one of the guards, Gauge starts to whisper.
Alright, so how do we want to handle this? The quieter we leave, the better, so let's try to get rid of him quickly and without fuss.
He looks around.
We could go back to our cells, only close the door slightly, and then make a stir. He'd come in to investigate, then we all rush him.

Hoch

The gnome peers thoughtfully up at Gauge. Bit complicated for my tastes. Was just gonna sneak up on him and kidney punch him but uhh... we could try it your way if that doesn't work.

Hoch

Hoch squints at Ashmael and shakes his head with disapproval, but he silently opens the door a crack and peeks out to see what he can see.

Opening the door, you see a brown bit of cloth, which you quickly realize is a mans pant leg. Luckily, he a facing away from you. If you had opened the door anymore, you would have hit him with it. You can barely see a hallway outside, but you can't really tell which direction it leads in because the man is in the way.

Hoch

After a moment of calculation, Hoch throws all his weight against the door, slamming it into the guards back with as much force as possible in hopes of inflicting serious harm.

JackTR69
2008-04-14, 04:11 PM
Hoch slams the door into the man with all the strength in his small body. The door hits the mans arms, and with a sickening crunching sound, breaks it at the elbow. The man screams in pain and falls to the floor. The scream blends in with those of other "patients" that is coming from other rooms in the asylum.

Gauge rushes up to the fallen guard. Raising his foot high, he trys to bring it down on the man's broken arm to grind it into the stone.
When you need them down, put them down hard.
To hit (don't know what bonuses I get for him being prone/ negatives to call a shot, but here goes my basic)- [roll0] and [roll1] damage.

Yes, my apologies. I didn't foresee my life being as busy as it is at this point in time, and I really don't have time to run a game right now. I may start again in the summer, but 4th edition will be out by then. My plan is to post another recruitment thread and start over instead of trying to convert to the new edition.

Alrighty, then, no big deal. Everybody's life gets busy at some point. Maybe I'll see you later, then.
