It's that time again, show off you desktops to the fine folks here.

Here are two of my current desktops:

From my laptop (screen stretchy warning 1280x800):
Linkified for your protection. (http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/4544/wall8ie2.png)

The theme here is a custom Win XP theme that's based on FSN (or fate/stay night, for those that do not recognise the acronym. The wallpaper is none other than Suzumiya-san staring into the computer, watching you.

And from my desktop computer (at my parents' place that I really, really wish that they would give me) (screen stretchy warning 1280x1024):
Linkified for your protection. (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4376/wallsz3.png)

The theme here is a hidden Win XP that was supposed to be released with the Windows XP Media Center 2005 edition, but it never saw the light of day. It's called Royale Noir. The wallpaper is of our Nagato Yuki from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

That's 2560x1024 pixels of desktop. I apologize for the low quality, the first screenshot I made was well over 1mb and that just seemed absurd.

I'm using the glossy gtk theme with the alphacube metacity theme. Colors are extremely low contrast gold on blue, with higher contrast gold blue in the background. I wanted something bright but easy on the eyes and I wanted the title bar of each window to blend in with the rest of the window. The ascii art is the bb demo. The faded window was my attempt to show off the compiz compositing manager. It looks a lot cooler when it fades in and out than when it just sits there looking washed out. Wallpaper comes from deviant which is still the best source for dual display wallpapers that I've found so far.

What's with people and overly-fancy desktops that send subliminal messages about the person? They're very over-fancy and subliminal. And over-fancy. And subliminal. But mostly subliminal.

Mines is a simple, honest desktop: a dull, literally monochrome background, and some icons. Normal icons. That are not fancy. Or subliminal.

Bah, you youngsters don't know how good you have it these days. Back in my day, when we had a "desktop", it was the top of a desk. We had to pretend it was a graphic interface and all.

After hauling it up to our apartment uphill through a blizzard and fitting it through a door half as wide as the thing.

Also, as an artist (at least in practice..), in my day - we had to measure the exact pica of our desktops for our 'graphical interface'!

No problem. Plenty of image manipulating software here I can use to get them to the correct sizes.

I usually keep mine clean (as shown above) unless I'm working on something. Downloads and documents usually get saved to the desktop first, then moved to appropriate locations. Right after an image trawl or some other project, it can be a pretty big mess...

I actually don't have any. Moved most of them, keep them around for when I install new stuff so I can sort them in the Applications menu without any trouble. I did, however, make a registry edit so that the Recycle Bin would stay hidden.

Funnily enough, I'm more of a KDE person when I actually use Linux. The irony in making Windows, the thing that KDE is criticized for acting too much like, work like GNOME is not unnoticable.

Gorbash, is that Vista or just a skin I'd love to have?
Vista (Ultimate Edition, 64-bit). Yes, I'm happy with it. No, I haven't had any real problems with it. No, I don't use many old programs. Yes, I do prefer it to XP currently (a lot of what's different is actually similar to customizations I made to XP anyways). No, I'm not switching back to XP or to Linux.

And actually I think there's an XP skin out there that makes it look like the Vista toolbar, though it won't do the semi-transparent thing.

[hr]
I still can't get my laptop to cooperate for a print screen of the desktop (I really need to replace that old thing), so I'm just going to link to the background I'm using, as well as the one I'm using on my Zune.

I just finished an image trawl on Danbooru and am working on a custom background, so I grabbed a shot of its current state (http://www.gorbashkazdar.com/randomimages/desktop2.jpg).

Well, I had found a theme that was pre-made from this (http://modvisc.blogspot.com/search/label/Window%20XP%20Theme) site. It has a few XP themes for fate/stay night, Lucky Star, Kanon, and Shuffle! to name a few. I'm fairly certain that there are a few products out there on the interblags that'll allow you to create your own XP theme (or any other OS for that matter), but my Google-fu isn't working tonight.

You know that’s one of the few fighter plains I do like the looks of (and probably my favoured fighter plain). It big exterior engines and big semi-exterior gun. Shows what the thing is made for.

Found the wallpaper on 4chan (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/kudzu_psyche/desktop.png)

I used to have a Hal 9000 theme going on. I had an image of the robotic eye as the wallpaper and it said (and still does) "Just what do you think you're doing Dave?"

Recently I've been getting my wallpapers from Nedroid's prints (which I'm going to actually buy one day when I get a chance).

My current one is called "The Eternal Struggle"

The rest of the prints are here (http://nedroid.com/shop.html). I used to use "Firefly Valley," and before that "The Heroes' Journey" (mostly because I do love me some Beartato.

Year two thousand and six? And just what is that OS, Windows 95? Oh well, to each their own.

I have my reasons to roll back my clocks to pre-january 1st, 2007. :smalltongue:
I do that for about 15 minutes every other week. Once again, I have my reasons.

And it's XP; themes are a wasted resource.

I would be using Linux (preference to OpenSuSE) if I didn't want to spend the time to backup and format the thing. Also, if I didn't have an intent to program to the windows user base.

Anima RPG? You mean the Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG? 'Cause if you do, it is kinda out, I'd say, given I have two sourcebooks for it in a shelf two feet from me right now, and I have had them since almost half a year ago :smalltongue:

Well, I do not have them in english, myself. Spanish and all that :smalltongue:. I did not know it wasn't translated to English still.

As for the game, it's needlessly complicated in some points, and my experience with magic and powers is that they're basically WTFBROKEN as soon as you go up a couple levels, but the fluff is awesome in so many points I am seriously considering adapting most of it into another system anyway.
