View Full Version : Holy Avenger

Ok, so I'm going to be playing a neutral favored soul who wields a holy avenger (I can't wait to see the expressions on the faces of the paladins.)

Basically, I need a picture of the most rediculous/awesome/super and over-the-top sword ever. I've been looking online, but all my google-fu seems to turn up is ichigo from bleach.

It doesn't in any way have to be realistic, and to be honest it might be better if it isn't (it is a holy avenger after all!). So please help me forum goers, help me make the paladins drool with envy!

Only paladins can get the most out of a Holy Avenger. It's not that you can't use it as a favored soul, but you'll just have a pretty average sword until you have at least one level of paladin.

I think that's part of the idea.

Do swords wielded by mecha count? Check this video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=lV1uCdfK1tE&feature=related) out.

That's funny. I feel like one of these should get the job done:

I can't seem to find a good picture online, but if you can get your hands on a photo of the Scottish Sword of State it is pretty awesome looking too.

Here are a few pictures I've found. Some of them might not be the most "holy-avengerish" though.

I second the vote for the Type-3 Colossal Blade.

Looks a bit too weak and ceremonial to me, to be actually believable as a weapon. The one you posted the image of is awesome though, what is it?

1) Be any full caster Gold Dwarf with access to Forgotten Realms supplements.

2) Take the Gold Dwarf Dweomersmith feat from Races of Faerun. It adds a variety of spells to any spell list, including Holy Sword (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/holySword.htm).

3) Around ECL 7-8, you should be able to cast Holy Sword (7ish levels before a Paladin could normally cast it), getting a +5 weapon with all the holy sword perks.

4) Profit!!!

Well, despite being majorly outclassed by the wall of weapons above, here are a few (in links, because my knowledge is weak).

I probably won't even melee with the thing.

The last character I tried to bring in was a barbarian with Robes of the Archmagi. I'm just doing this for hilarity's sake.

Thrawn, you have encouraged me to myself play a barbarian or other non-magic type with robes of the archmagi. ^_^

As the idea of someone who inherited the robes of the archmagi, despite being the only non-mage of the family/culture is neat.

Use Magic Device technically works too.

I vote for this one. It does have that 'celestial' air about it.

Tai Chi Sword? Tai Chi Sword?! There is no such thing as a 'Tai Chi Sword.' That, my good fellow is a jian (or gim), commonly referred to in this region of the cosmos as a straightsword. 'Tis a gentleman's weapon, like the rapier.

You may view Jet Li using one here (at the 4 minute mark), or if you've seen 'Crouching Tiger,' the Green Destiny is one perchance to view.

'Tai Chi Sword' indeed! Pshaw!

j/k

Surrounded by their enemies and outnumbered 20 to 1, the Pride of the Holy Storm stood firm in their faith. Their King, Lion-O, raised his Holy Sword, Simba, skyward and shouted the charge, "For Glory. For Pride. Thundercats, HOOOOOO!!!"

I call it a Tai Chi sword because I don't speak Chinese, and that's how I first heard it referred to. You are, of course, right, though. I salute you! (I prefer the King of Weapons to the Gentleman, anyway).

And remember, children: As long as there is evil in the world, Mumm-Ra lives!

This has to be one of the most ridiculous "weapons" I've ever seen, but it seems to be what you're going for. Gotta love Soul Caliber!

Does the emulate class ability usage of UMD work on the holy avenger? Because... if you get your UMD check high enough (Moment of Prescience anyone?), you could have an actually viable source of SR.... that also has the side benefit of arousing intense jealousy from dumb pally's.

Edit: Kantolin, my barbarian character was a higher level remake of a shock-troopering character I'd played previously. I could afford to have him wear the robes because it was essentially my goal to keep his AC at somewhere around 1 just to see how long he'd survive.

I completely ripped off the barbarian from the "use for a monk" thread. I gave him an intelligent ring of blinking named "Blinky." He essentially had the robes, the ring and a hugely expensive guisarme and that was about it other than a few stat boosters.

Okay... on second thought, don't know why I decided to tell you that, but whatever. Its always nice to know that I'm inspiring todays youth to better... er, well.... more interesting heights.

Heh. I don't speak chinese either. Began studying Tai Chi Chuan about 2-1/2 years ago. Know the hands form and straightsword form. Now working on the staff. This stuff ain't easy. Even won a silver medal in the intermediate division hands form last summer at the International Kuoshu Tournament

Just having a little fun at your expense.

... That is so a weapon for the Chaotic Evil.

Like I said, some of them aren't exactly Holy Avenger material. Still if you need a cool-looking weapon for a blackguard it's not that bad.

Well, I was thinking of having a party member cast nystul's magic aura on it to make it appear super evil to hide the fact, at least initially, that its a holy avenger. I figured I could just fluff the appearance to look evil (like that awesome sword with feathers... I don't know who thought of that, but  )

Then later, I could drop the whole aura thing and say... btw this is what my sword really looks like! In that case I'd probably use the siegfried one. That thing's awesome. Heck, this entire thread is made of awesome.

Person Man, sadly I don't have any access to Forgotten Realms material. Though that is an awesome idea. Thanks for the tip.

wow, I was going to suggest a couple weapons to look at but after some of these monster posts, I don't know what else to add. You should definitely think about just taking some Soul Calibur weapons and run with that though. Especially the Iron Sword / Sigfried / Nightmare group. Those things are so ridiculously large that it's almost comical.
