It's not complete yet, I'm busy working on a BU theme, and then some random cards to finish it out. The set is based on a d&d campaign setting I plan on running. So please, tell me what you think. :smallsmile:

You don't seem to have a problem with power creep...if anything, I'd say several cards are overcosted or underpowered. Minor Healing seems really weak; it could gain twice as much life, and it still probably wouldn't be playable even in limited. Remember that non-hybrid multi-color cards are harder to play, and thus are allowed to have their power level pushed much more than a mono-color card. For example, Redeemed Archmage effectively costs 5 or 6 converted mana due to its multi-colored mana cost, which is way too much to pay for a 1/2 creature with a conditional ability. It could stand to either have its cost reduced, or up its stats.

There's also a few wording issues, such as the reminder text for Curious, but it's not that big of a deal. Although, with a keyword like "Curious", I expected an ability that resembles the actual card Curiosity, lol.

I like Curious. I too expected something about drawing cards when your creatures deal damage, but that was too easy, wasn't it? :smallwink:. I'd template it differently, though. If Wizards have learned something lately, is that keywords should be as flexible as possible (Echo started with a fixed cost equal to the card's cost, and then had to be errataed to allow for different Echo costs). I'd do something like "Curious N: When this deals combat damage to an opponent, look at the top N cards of that player's library. You may put one of these cards on the bottom of that player's library. Put the rest on the top of that player's library in any order". Long-ish, but hey, Suspend was worse :smalltongue:. The "combat damage" part is to prevent abuse with ping effects, although that's debatable. I've also changed "player" to "opponent", just in case, although with ping effects out it would be difficult to deal damage to yourself with a creature. One or the other could be removed without problems, I think.

Power wise, there's a certain lack of balance. Some cards are blatantly underpowerd (Mirrinus mentioned Minor Healing, which is much worse than Healing Salve, and that's underpowered to begin with), while others seem a bit over the top (6 power double striker for 6? Really?). Some card-by-card comments in the Spoiler block below, if you're interested. Also, on a first glance I seem to have caught a few cases of "rarity = power", which shouldn't happen. Like having a vanilla uncommon 2/3 for UW, then having a vanilla common 2/2 for the exact same cost. Rarity should mean complexity or specialization, not raw power. Don't fall for the Yu-Gi-Oh trap.

So, details. Don't read unless you have lots of time :smallbiggrin:.


-Festival of the Awakened: Wow, I can't believe no card has ever been printed with that exact text. Seems a bit too expensive for a flexible fog, though. Maybe reduce the cost by 1.
-Redeemed Archmage: I like that cost, seems like something Wizards should do in Eventide. Still, overcosted for a 1/2 color hoser that can only work once per turn. I'd make it a 2/3, or 1/3 vigilance.
-Verkalyth White-Fang: Hello, Akroma 3.0. One mana cheaper, but the WWWW makes it almost as hard to cast as the original. Either add another ability, or make it 4WWW.
-Commanding Presence: Strictly worse than Power Sink, Syncopate or Logic Knot. Should do something else.
-Confusion: Straight creature destruction is neither white nor blue. Maybe make them deal damage equal to their power to each other, although this ability is way more red than white. Dunno about this one, doesn't seem right...
-Redeemed Ex-Matriarch: The ability cost seems too low. Compare to Starlight Invoker.
-Steadfast Resolve: Untap all creatures, I suppose. Too expensive, compare to Roar of the Kha or To Arms!. Maybe 2W or 1WW.
-The Legion of White-Fang: Haste is not white, at all. Akroma can get away with it because she is Akroma. This card should be red.
-Waterweird Footsoldiers: Elvish warrior in W I can see, but a 2/3 for UU seems way over the curve for blue creatures. I'd make it UW, and still would feel a bit out of place (compare to Watchwolf, which should be better than this given its colors).
-Connected by Faith: Should be an instant.
-New Faith: See above. Combat tricks this weak make no sense a sorcery speed. See Daring Leap.
-Archers of Great-Holme: Reach is green, not white. Flavourful, but way worse than Canopy Spider, and that's a weak card to begin with...
-Great-Holme Militia: Either this or Waterweird Footsoldiers should go, if you keep them in their current form.
-Knights of the Order: Why is this blue?
-Sage of the Order: Waaaay to expensive. Ability cost is fine, though, comparing it to Azorius Guildmage. Should be a 1/4 for that cost.
-Scholar of the Order: Again, why is this blue?
-Impish Familiar: Weak. UW gets 2/2 flyers with abilities, not vanilla 2/1 flyers. See Azorius First Wing. Mistral Charger > this.
-Liquid Cutpurse: Haste is not blue. And the draw ability should up the cost a bit, comparing it to Thieving Magpie.
-Assault from Above: Ugh, needs retemplating urgently. This sounds more white than blue, though.
-Procured Knowledge: Wow, draw 5 for 4 mana at instant speed? Either undercosted by 1, or should be draw 4 instead. At draw 4 it's still as good as Careful Consideration.
-Readied Defense Tactics: Inspire seems better, even taking the cantrip effect into account. Make it 1UW and/or +2/+3 and we have a deal.
-War Coached Behir: Should be a 4/3, tops. 6 power double striker is crazy and should be reserved to massively overcosted dragons.
-Council's Judgement: Counterspell+Unsummon, huh? Cryptic Command can do the same and then some more for only 1 more. Still, the cost seems fair.
-Desperate Defenses: Desperate indeed. This card is way too weak, having built-in -2 card disadvantadge and no hope of ever regaining it through its effect (barring a Doran, the Siege Tower in play, of course :smalltongue:).
-Great-Holme's Spell Dampen: WAY overcosted. Compare to Sphere of Resistance, which does half the effect for 2 colorless mana.
-Reinstated: This effect is green (Recollect). Way to expensive and restrictive, anyhow.
-Signet of the Awakened: Too weak for its cost. In fact, even if it costed 0 it would be too weak, IMO. Should do something else.
