So, I'm browsing the SRD today and I finally did the taboo... I clicked on the Psionics.

I'd like to try to build a psychic warrior, but I don't know anything about psionics.

Let's say (for simplicitiy sake) that everything but the setting specific books are available...

Help?

What are you trying to do with the character? Generally you get some good fightery feats and get nice powers like Expansion to allow you to crush stuff.

Well, yes, that's the general idea. Melee combatant... I just wanted to... add some psionics in for flavoring, set to a low boil... and win! :smallcool:

I think that alot of the neatness with psionics comes from the psionic feats, especially for melee characters. I would suggest that you first read through the feat section and take note of anything that looks absolutely awesome. Then read through the core mechanic of it (or have someone explain it to you real quick). Then look through the psychic warrior class. Don't worry about powers until the end. All those neat feats you thought were awesome, take them with your bonus feats.

After you figure out your powerpoints and the number of powers known then go look at the powers list. If you get real adventurous pick up expanded knowledge to get a power off another list as well.

Ego whip is always nice.

First rule of psionics - you do not talk about psionics the maximum number of power points you can spend to manifest one power is equal to your manifester level. As long as you remember that, you'll be fine.

For a Psychic Warrior, I think the standard (optimized) build is a Half-Giant PsyWar with spiked chain, expansion, and a bunch of "lockdown" feats (like Standstill and stuff like that). If you're not into that, just look through the powers and feats you'll have access to, and decide something from there.

Is the Psibond Agent (complete... mage? i think) worth a look at? I dont think it advanced psionics, but it requires power points to get into it.

In all seriousness: where you looking for a super optimized power build or were you looking for guides? Because here are both pilfered (or as I prefer "liberated") from theCharOps board:

In the words of Soren Kierkegaard, “Irony is a disciplinarian feared only by those who do not know it, but cherished by those who do.” :smalltongue:

If you want to invalidate a spiked chain build get Improved Sunder and the power Dissipating Touch. Then you blow powerpoints equal to your level and make the touch attack, you will most likely break the weapon.

Erm, Thri-kreen and battle jump/leap attack.

+30 racial jump bonus? Yes please.

Really, you can do anything with PsyWar you can do with fighter, but with more win.

And see if your DM will give you full BAB for the PsyWar. I mean, please, bro. The cleric gets the same BAB as you, and WAY BETTER casting. And the Duskblade gets full BAB, IIRC, and partial casting.

If I wasn't married, I'd be so eager to help out a psionic virgin. It'd be awesome to be able to feel everything the other person did...

Oh wait, that's not what you meant. Nevermind.

Bad Talya. Go to your room. No corrupting the innocent on these boards.

(Most entertaining thing I've read all day, actually.)

Well, I'm basically doing exactly the same thing in a game with you at the moment, so that might help... The general idea as I understand it is to just build a fightin' man and give him powers that buff him or get around mobility or similar issues. Remember, you've only twenty powers over twenty levels, but even a first-level power can be augmented up to the level of effectiveness of a ninth-level spell (well, not quite, but in principle) once you're at that level, so choose your powers well and you can cover your weaknesses and enhance your strengths.

(This is the general pattern with psionics. Instead of spells which scale up as you level, a power has the same effects as when you first gained it unless you spend extra power points on it, which effectively makes it cost as much as a higher-level power. Compensates for your limited powers known by making them individually more versatile.)

edit: of course, being a virgin, what you'd be feeling is most likely awkward nervousness followed by a few brief moments of clumsy pleasure...
