Advice on living in San Jose

I'm looking at a possible move to San Jose in the near future, on a temporary basis and was wondering if any of the board members were familiar with the city, the housing situation, etc. I'm a bit worried about finding a place that will rent short term, and also what the transportation situation is like.

Any advice, insight, or anecdotes about living in San Jose would be appreciated.
