How well would E6 (running a campaign from level 1 to 6, with 6th level being mythic characters practically) work with Ultimate Classes? I like the variety of these classes but I can't really judge whether it would work out well to have them at those levels. With Ultimate, characters generally get 3rd level spells at 7th level rather than 5th or 6th, so that seems like it could have a major effect on spells and effects.

Where are Ultimate classes from?

They're a project to make all the classes perfectly equal. Here they are. (http://www.liquidmateria.info/wiki/index.php?title=Ultimate_Classes) For the most part, their class abilities are simplified and grow as they do, making every level exciting. In addition, most have some sort of paths or somesuch, allowing for player choice and customization.

So, 4ed basically?

Except they have been around for 3 or 4 years.
In my experience they are fun to play, though I have never tried them with the E6 rules.

They've got a lot of diversity and choices so it would seem like it could make the most of those 6 levels where your only major choices are feats.

They're fairly weak compared to WotC's base classes. If you wanted something really low powered, E6 + Ultimate could do it. Not getting 3rd level spells would be sort of lame, though.

Also, a lot of class abilities cost resources, and have a failure rate (ie, make a skill check).

You could try E7, E8, or E9 with Ultimate Classes
