Daigo's last name

Am I the only one to notice this? Daigo says he's saving his last name for an emergency- but if it's called House Kato wouldn't that imply that Daigo's last name is Kato? Or is that not how it works?

Read 501 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0501.html) again, his last name is not Kato. His last name starts with D. But since he's saving it, they decided to use Kazumi's last name.
