View Full Version : Song Parts You Rewind to Listen Again and Again

You know how it goes, you're listening to a song, which may be good, or bad, but there is this part that just sticks to you. So you rewind it just to listen to that part. It may be a particularly good solo, a really well delivered part of the lyrics, anything really. Post them here to share your love for song parts with the world.

I'll start.

Ribbons Undone - Tori Amos

"She runs like a fire does
Just picking up daises
Comes in for a landing
A pure flash of lightning
Past alice blue blossoms
You follow her laughter
And then she'll surprise you
Arms filled with lavender"

I am known to rewind that part to listen to it again for about ten times. The rest of the song doesn't quite elicit the same reaction, but that part is just so... beautiful.

"cuz greedy human beings,
will always lend a haaaaaand,
with the destruction,
of this worthless jungle land.

And what a beautiful machine,
they have provided,
to slice apart the wood,
with my foul breath to guide it."

Hexus, Toxic Love, Fern Gully

No cartoon villain has ever scared me as much as Hexus when he was a skeleton weathed in a robe of filth.

Oh, so many...

The opening of Bloodline, by Slayer. It's so menacingly awesome.

The last verse of Pain Redefined, by Disturbed:
"I stand and fight
I'm not afraid to die
Elochai, bury me tonight."

The opening of Blinded by the Light, by Shadows Fall.

Both parts where the lead singer yells "Let freedom rings with the shotgun blast!" in Davidian, by Machine Head.

The really long buildup before the "Standing alone in the wind and rain" line in Sign of the Cross, by Iron Maiden.

A certain part of Ravel's string quartet, mov. 1. On my recording, it starts around the 1:40 mark.

Beautiful, beautiful piece.

This. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p6QtMn5OzY)

If it's not the whole song, the intro and the solo.

And Freebird and Stairway To Heaven's Solos, which are crafted of Win and PWN.

"Oh baby... Just you shut your mouth"
-Iggy Pop - China Girl.

Though David Bowie says it better.

"This is the end, my only friend, the end."
-The Doors - The End

There's some serious stuff I could say here, but the chorus of Robots In Disguise' D.I.Y. is one of these for me.

Mine are ....
The beginning of Disco Mushroom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7WYCzRMzVI) by Infected Mushroom.
Further (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ftP6N-b1d0) by VNV Nation - the section where he sings, "Without a thought I would see everything eternal / Forget that once we were just dust from heavens far"
Bare Grace Misery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIX1crCT8CI) by Nightwish - specifically, 1:30 into [this version of] the song.

I've just seen a Face, by the Beatles.

Not REALLY rewinding, but it's such a short song I often listen to it over and over.

Falling, yes I am Falling, and she keeps calling me back again!

The opening piece in the Muse song 'Bliss' and 'Newborn' where the soft piano music rips into insane guitar work.

The intro to the song 'Can You Hear Me Knocking?'. Godlike.

Some off the top of my head:

"So you've got no friends and
You wander through the night
And now you watch the sunrise through a rifle-sight
Well don't believe in people who say it's all been done
They have time to talk because their race is run"

-Silver Jew's "Advice To The Graduate"

and

"But then you came in and we locked eyes
You kicked the ashtray over as we came toward each other
Stubbed my cigarette out against the west wall
Quickly lit another"

- Mt. Goat's "Oceanographer's Choice"

and

"But since it falls unto my lot that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call good night and joy be with you all"

- "The Parting Glass"

and finally, before I start thinking about it and typing too much, the harmonized chorus on The Pogues "If I Should Fall from Grace of God." Pure...something. But it's pure.

The solo in Freewill (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpCASVFyQoE) by Rush at about a three minutes in.

Also, Almost all 2:18 of Lucky Dube's "Mr.DJ". Oh so good.
Hey mister DeeJay
Play us a song
not any song though
a reggae song.

I don't think I've actually rewound it to listen to it again, but I love the end of "Fire Coming Out of a Monkey's Head" by Gorillaz.

There were no screams.
There was no time.
The mountain called Monkey had spoken.
And then...

Nothing.

Haunting...

That's a weird song. Good though.

The solo part of Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce is pretty good. Regardless of whether or not they make good music, they are ridiculously skilled.

The opening riff of Paradise City by Guns N' Roses. Just beautiful.

I don't rewind them, but these lines always get me:

"And she sighed and she died/In his arms and he cried" from "The Sky is a Poisonous Garden" by Concrete Blonde,

"When the sky is falling/Like a blanket on your shoulder/And the moon is like a mother/Looking over you forever/And the dawn is so familiar/You were meant to be together" the first verse from "Lullabye" by Concrete Blonde,

Basically the entirety of "Woodpecker from Mars" by Faith No More

"I dreamed I was missing/You were so scared/But no-one else listened/Because no-one else cared/After my dreaming/I woke with this fear/What am I leaving/When I'm done here?" from "Leave Out All the Rest" by Linkin Park

While I'm on that song, I also like the line "I'm strong on the surface/Not all the way through/I've never been perfect/But neither have you."

There's a few.

The refrain of The Healer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WomtMeiVIOg) by Primal Fear.

Oh, and "War of Wrath" on "Nightfall in middle earth" it's surprising that i ever got around listening to the rest fo the album, as often as i listened to just those few lines...

The refrain in the first part of Avantasia's "The Seven Angels"

We are the seven
Judgment of heaven
Why don't we know?
We are the angels
It's Revelation
Soul castigation
Fire will burn us away!

EPIC!!!

Also, the outro to Blind Guardian's "The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight"

PROUDLY IT STANDS UNTIL THE WORLD'S END!
THE VICTORIOUS BANNER OF LOOOOOOOOOVE!!!

Oh, GOD, how did I forget about Paradise City?

*Smacks self for idiocy*.

Also, since we're at it: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, the intro. Epic, I tell you.

Hmmm... I have several songs I always like and could hear them again and again. At the moment I like to listen to Daughtry - Over you...

... I never saw it coming,
I should have started running
a long long time ago...
... And I never thought I doubt you
I'm better off without you
more than you, more than
you know...

From 6 minutes onward in Sidewinder, by Avenged Sevenfold, the acoustic guitar solo and outro give me a warm fuzzy feeling. ^_^

Ordinary Story by In Flames... the bit where it shifts into the keyboard/whispered part.

Nightfall in Middle Earth: "Never trust a northern wind... never turn your back on friends!"

The Curse of Feanor: "But I arrived! Revenge be mine!"

Nirvana- Heart-Shaped Box

"Cut myself on Angel's hair and baby's breath."

I don't know why, but I always get quiet so I can hear that single part.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull- "Do you remember December's Foggy Freeze?" That bit.

I second heart shaped box.

I would also add the solo from "Mirror of Madness" by Norther, and this section from LAID TO rest" by LOG:
"you're better alone/Destroy yourself, see who gives a ****/Absorb yourself, you're better alone/Destroy yourself"

The way he sings it just makes it awesome.

All 18 minutes of NOFX - The Decline

The lyrical portion of NiN - The Great Destroyer
also from the same album
NiN - In This Twilight

I could probably make this post four miles long if I spent enough time with it though, and those selections are just the ones off the tippy top of my head.

The drum fills in the beginning of Rush's 2112 Overture (The Temples of Syrinx)
The first verse of Rush's "Red Barchetta" always gets me.
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the motor law

And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the turbine freight
to far outside the wire
where my white-haired uncle waits

All of Hard to Concentrate by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, with an emphasis placed at 46 seconds and onwards, I believe.
Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson. It gets simply divine at 1:37 or so.

Mine is pretty short, but I will find myself singing it a lot.

Its the last two lines from Kamen Rider Kabuto:

Kousoku no VISION minogasu na
Tsuite koreru nara...

Which translates to:

Catch the light-speed Vision.
If you can follow it.
