As a fairly inexperienced player, and a practically oblivious DM, how should one go about allowing PC's to make magic items? Such as a magic ring?

This belongs in the Gaming (d20 and General RPG) (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30) forum, not the homebrew...

The players should have access to smithing tools and/or arcane components required to create (and/or enchant) the item, as well as have the skills/feats necessary to create that type of item.

As Mando Knight says, this is more of a Gaming question than a Homebrew question, unless you're asking us to come up with new rules.

The regular rules are found here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/creatingMagicItems.htm) - it's in either the Player's Handbook or Dungeon Master's Guide (not sure which), but it's in the SRD for sure.

The actual item rules are in the DMG (PHB has the feats, but they say to go look in the DMG) - and do note, the section on estimating item costs are guidelines, that explicitly only provide a starting point, not actual rules for new items. This WILL come up if you have anyone munchkin-inclined look at them.

I don't think there's a such thing as a +1 ring.
But you can feel free to prove me wrong.

Darn thought he meant The Ring...anyway back to wandering threads. Yeah it should be in the DMs guide or SRD man.
