This morning my computer was fine.

After several hours of use by my sister we have a very nasty program on it that keeps giving me popups and deflecting my to an "antiviral" site. I think the address below is the one. Anywyas, ieantiav is bad mojo and my current anti-viral and anti-spyware cant seem to kill or even find it.

http://ieantiavdownload.com

I need help because the only files and whatnot that i know how to fiddle around with are videogame related.

I dont know how to get rid of this and im not so sure i want to download any new antiviral software seeing as this very program is masquarading as one of those things. Also, they tied to be complicated and throw around words like "safe mode" that dont apply to my video game knowledge base.

Looks smaller and simpler than the other one i foudn that said it could kill it. And it doesnt use the words "Safe Mode" so i guess i will try it. Results afterwords.

I'm not sure how much I can do except reccomend Avast and Ad-aware. These two are the bread and butter for my security.

There's also Hijackthis, my heavy guns of sorts, but there is a level of risk to using it. Deleting the wrong entries could do more harm then good. There are plent of places that guide on what you can delet and wht ou shouldn't though.

Right now im using the option that suggests SpyHunter 3.

Damn slow and it doesnt seem to have favorable reviews but if it catches the rat i want to kill than i might keep the fat lazy cat or a program around.

Alrighty, so. Spyhunter 3 wont let me kill all the stuff that it found unless i pay. But i have a more beefed up version of my normal anti-spyware running. Im gonna nuke the computer with that and then use the Spyhunter to see if it missed anything.

This is why windows needs an equivalent to my tools:
ps -augxww
kill -9
Not that I ever need to use them.:smalltongue:

Need computer held.

Sounds like the spyware already cast Hold Computer on it.

:elan:

Er, actually I reccomend getting noscript and avira anti-virus. Noscript is a fun little firefox extension that turns off java and activex scripts, but lets you enable them for specific sites (and it remembers those sites). It will essentially save you from the computer illiterate people in your life.

Ok, I'll hold your computer for you. :smalltongue:

But seriously, these are some of the programs I use.

HijackThis (http://www.hijackthis-forum.de/forumdisplay.php?f=10). You should post what you find on the forums before removing anything.
You can get the program here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html).

Adaware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5&cdlPid=10837062) - This is yet another anti-spyware program.

Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html) Search and Destroy - This one can pick up things Adaware didn't and vice versa.

Spywareblaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html) - This helps prevent spyware from being installed in the first place.

I hope this helps you some.

Except that a competent virus will modify your ps and kill binaries so that it filters out its own process and doesn't let you kill them even if you do find them. This is why you run chkrootkit from a knoppix cd - it'll use known good binaries from the cd to compare your binaries with the originals that came with your OS.

Back to the question at hand, yes get adaware and spybot. They are free and solve problems like this. Install both of these. Get an antivirus program too (by which I mean avast, NOT whichever virus masquerading as an antivirus shows up in google). Install all these and update. Then boot into safe mode. Here's a brief explanation of safe mode:

Safe mode is an option where your computer doesn't boot up fully, but just enough so that you can do maintenance. It still looks like windows but services and viruses won't be running in the background. To get to safe mode you hit F8 while booting before the windows screen shows up.

When you're in safe mode the virus won't be trying to protect itself. Run adaware, spybot, and avast. Have them each do a full system scan and remove anything that comes up as malicious. Reboot to leave safe mode, and enjoy your computer.

I use this anti-virus software at home called "Linux". I heavily recommend it.

Spybot Search and Destroy - This one can pick up things Adaware didn't and vice versa.

That cant help me. Its what i use normaly and its been used three times in the last 24 hours. It killed like 70 things (my sister needs to stay away from the computer) but not my real problem.

Might have to do that "Safe Mode: thing. I have a piece of software specificly designed to kill ieantiav but it needs you to run it both in and out of safe mode.

i had one of these a while back, same basic issue... it's annoy-ware not mal-ware so the anti spy/viral's won't take care of it,
i just ctrl-alt-del and closed the process, and then removed it from the boot scripts (thank you tune-up utlilities) and then deleted the actual .exe and now there are no more problems

..Why not just run your stuff in safe mode? Not like there's anything horrible about running your computer in safe mode- It has "safe" in the name, for flame's sake.

...On that note, I wish I remembered how to turn safe mode on.. I believe it was f12 or something while your computer boots?
