okay so we now know (and always knew) that Therka is a half-orc however she can talk clearly, while Thog is also a half-orc he speaks like an orc. This isn't really an intresting topic and has no refrence to the story but I want to hear other peoples therioes. Mine are:
Either Thog's human parent died and so he was raised by orcs
or
it's a simple matter of genetics, Thog got the orc ones and Therkla got the human ones

Or it could mean that Thog and the island-dwelling orcs aren't as intelligient as Therkla.

Yeah, Therkla seems to have at least normal intelligence, where as Thog is clearly retarted.

Traditionally, human-nonhuman relationships don't last. As such, half-humans are usually raised by only one parent. Odds are Thog was raised by his orc parent. As for Therkla, she was either raised by her father if the relationship didn't work, or she was raised by both and got a human education in Azure City. (Ninja!)

It's not exactly genetics, although Thog seems to favor his Orc heritage. But consider that:

A) Intelligence is Thog's dump stat (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0044.html)
B) He started off as a barbarian, and even HUMAN (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0132.html) barbarians are illiterate and have yet to master first-person pronouns.

One went through ninja training, the other doesn't even have literacy as a class feature.

While Therkla is a ninja, a skills-heavy class where a high intelligence is very helpful (although ninja has MAD like crazy, at least as bad as monk).
