So I have been looking at some RPG's for my 360. I was looking at getting the old Demon Stone game. I was also looking in Wal-Mart and found the Shadowrun game. Is either of these games worth buying? I liked the LotR for Gamecube and Assassin's Creed.

For RPG's get The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion if nothing else. Me and most of my friends that have played it have racked up 100+ hours. There is tons of races, customizable classes and side quests to keep you occupied for a long time. It is a Xbox Must Have.

Mass Effect, if you don't already have it.

Shadowrun is an entirely online multiplayer ONLY game. It's deceptive somehow.

If you do get Oblivion (which I would highly suggest) get the Shivering Isles, or look for the game of the year edition as the Isles are totally awesome. Adds a much better main quest than the one in the actual game.

I would suggest Grand Theft Auto 4, unlike the prequals it has taken on more of a RPG tone than anything else.

Mass Effect, if you don't already have it.

Agreed, for the sheer epicness of its win.
Lost Odyssey is very dull if you don't love (and I mean love) cutscenes.

Yeah, if you want hundreds of hours of gameplay (I know that some people hate that stuff ), get Oblivion. I've owned the game for two years now and I still find myself going back to it (theres always something to do!!!), and am reaching 200 hours, if not already there.

May I suggest Bioshock? That, Mass Effect and Oblivion are all really good.

Bioshock: Fantastic game. Doesn't really have many (or hell, any) ARGH PEE GEE elements to it, but it's a fun ride and an amazing artistic work, to boot. Still falls into the trap of featuring a freaking awful escort mission. Manages to be a good mindscrew even once you realize that dying has virtually no consequence.

Oblivion: I can't think of any way to say this, but really "Dumbed-down" from its predecessor. I guess a nicer way of saying it would be "Streamlined", but the whole magic-GPS-Arrow thing really gets on my nerves and it has its moments of feeling like I'm being led around like a retard. Then again, Morrowind was made "for" the PC, and Oblivion seems more made "for" the Console, and the two crowds seem to have different interests.

That said, the game is fun if you like your ARGH PEE GEE with lots of hack n' slash going on, and the combat made sure that it was actually fun this time around. The plot (All of them, until you start playing Shivering Isles which is actually witty and interesting) is pretty trite and cliche, but that doesn't stop the game from being fun when someone isn't expositioning. Just remember that those 50+ hours most people cite is either from running around in several fairly-repetitive dungeons and killing/looting things, or is at least partly from doing those horrible Mages Guild quests. Nonetheless, if you want a lot of killing things and hacking and slashing, Oblivion's a good bet. If you get it, GotY (which has Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles) is HEAVILY reccomended.

Orange Box: Not an ARGH PEE GEE in any sense of the word, but a solid assortment of FPS games. And honestly, if you don't like FPS games, why the hell do you have a 360? :smallconfused:Anyway, HL2 is not without its flaws (WHO PUT THESE JUMPING PUZZLES HERE), and Ep 1/2, while short, are fun and tend to be more well-designed than the base game. TF2 is surprisingly deep for being in a genre that relies on twitch reflexes and jumping around like a 12-year-old hopped up on sugar, and Portal is well...Portal. Just don't go around spouting random quotes from it after you're done, because it's like not being Dave Chappelle yet going around shouting "RICK JAMES". Srsly, not funny. :smallannoyed:

Halo 3: If you liked Halo, then you liked Halo 2, so you'll like Halo 3. I personally find them all mediocre, having personally played them at a friend's house.

Lost Odyssey: I haven't played this personally, but one of my friends sums it up pretty well: "Typical JRPG fare, but typical JRPG fare done well." Mind you, we're talking typical JRPG fare from the PSX or maybe SNES era, not this recent stuff where everyone is swathed in copious amounts of belts and zippers and cutting themselves over their dead girlfriend for the entire plot. (thanks, FF7) Either way, if you can say "Oh hay guize I really liked FF4 and FF6 and Chrono Trigger and searching through pots for potions and blah blah blah" and not be lying, you'll probably like it. Cutscene-heavy. No, seriously, I'm told it has the time-honored tradition of looting peoples' clay pots for healing items at the start of the game.

GTAIV: Do you like GTA? Good! Have you never personally played GTA, but are intrigued by the concept? Fantastic place to start! Do you not care for GTA? Stay away! This is the general rule for almost all sequels of recent games.

Mass Effect: It's sci-fi. With RPG elements. And bizarre alien love. If you don't like any of these things, stay away. Otherwise, get it.

Overlord: Pikmin, but with EVVVVIIIILLLL. Kind of corny and not the most professional game on earth, but damn if it doesn't have its fun moments.

I also recommend Oblivion. Hundreds of hours of gameplay, and one of the very few RPGs where you can actually choose your race.
HOWEVER: get this game for the PC just for the easily downloadable mods. :smallwink:

Not just at the start; it goes all the way through the game.

Ug, yes. I was given it with people saying it was DA GAME of DA YEAR and best RPG ever. Sadly, it was made by the same guys who did FF10. Ug

Don't get assassin's creed, it is better in theory than in pratice. Jade Empire/mass effect are worth getting on the PC, but get Oblivion or i'll cut you. I cut you good

Unless you get Overlord. A very funny game

What he said. Overlord really is a blast, and is decently long as well. Plus you get to exterminate hordes of demented halflings, an activity which never, ever gets old.

Oblivion is worth a play as well. I highly recommend the Shivering Isles expansion, which adds a lot of gameplay and some of the most hilarious characters ever. Haskil is probably the only character I've ever met who is so sane I thought he was actually insane, and dead funny for every minute as well.

The consensus seems to be Oblivion. Maybe I will get GTA IV also, I have never played a GTA game. And EE I already have AC and love it! :smalltongue:

Overlord: Pikmin, but with EVVVVIIIILLLL.

So true. You will not believe how irritated my friend was when I proclaimed it a reskinned Pikmin.

Still fun as hell, though.

My list:

Bioshock: Awesomesauce given disc form.

Crackdown: Largely devoid of story, and enemy attacks swing wildly from bullets that won't even scratch you to grenades/explosive barrels that will mercilessly ragdoll you and leave you back at the safe house, and it can get very repetitive very quickly. Frankly, I wouldn't recommend this over anything else on this list, but its still pretty good.

Mass Effect: The polar opposite of Crackdown: Largely devoid of gameplay and packed with story. Buy for the mind-crushing depth.

The Orange Box: 5 Games for the price of one, and each one is worth the entry price alone. A must-buy, if only to understand the Companion Cube references the interweb spits out every five seconds.

Gears of War: VERY BROWN. VERY GRITTY. HUGE NECKS. Still one of the better shooters I've played, with a pretty realistic depiction of urban shootouts, set though they may be against 40k Orks in a post-apocalyptic world (Earth? Where?)

Dead Rising: Very easy, followed by INCREDIBLY TOUGH. Very fun, great stress relief, could stand to take itself less seriously (so yeah, I want Shaun of the Dead: The Game. So shoot me.) and packed with replayability. Buy it for the braaains.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band: Do you have friends? Do you want to keep them entertained, no matter their age, background, skill or indeed sexual orientation? Do you want to fork out enough cash to buy all the hardware you'll need (one peripheral is never enough)? Then you could do a hell of a lot worse than get one of these games.

Oblivion: If you've never played an Elder Scrolls game, you'll like this. If you have, you'll alternately pity and scorn it. It's really that simple.

Iron Man: I enjoyed it. It was the best movie-game adaptation I've played, excluding Spiderman the Movie.

Games I Haven't Played But Will:

Call of Duty 4: I've heard it's stellar. I can't say for myself, but Yahtzee agrees, which means the game must be good.

GTA IV: Everyone else appears to be spontaneously combusting over it, no reason why you shouldn't.

Assassin's Creed: Apparently good, doesn't live up to the hype, but what does?

The biggest neck in the whole game!
