Hey, I've just got a quick question. I'm writing a report for my english class about the origins of Dungeons and Dragons and its effects in the large scale of things. It's actually a really fun essay.

Anyway, I'm having trouble finding a citable source that says what year that the original version of dnd (like, the one written by Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax) was published. I'm just about positive that it's 1974, but Wikipedia is not a approved source. So, if you have any 'trustworthy' links that I can cite, I would be much obliged. This is due tomorrow, so thanks in advance.

See if the original 1st edition PHB is sourced on the Wiki article. That would probably a good place to look.

The NYTimes Obit/tribute. It's 1974.

wikipedia cites it's sources... use whatever they cite.

I once straight-cited the 3rd Edition Monster Manual for a report about Dragon Mythology. Good times...

As an added bonus, the suggestions by Nebo and Morituri* would also count as primary sources!

* not actually a suggestion, but whatever.
