It's not so much as milking but giving a niche crowd what they want. A bunch of people just want the game to make a bunch of creatures. Their giving a small chunk of cake at a small chunk of a price.

Compared to limited pre-order early access beta tester edition stuff, this hardly registers. Also note that Spore uses a lot of user created content, and so releasing this piece of the game early makes a certain degree of success, since it means that on release day the game has material.

You should note that there's also a free version with fewer features.

With this in mind I must boldly do my part to populate the future worlds of fellow gamers... With creatures of total and consummate EVIL! :smallamused:

Way to delay it again! :smallwink:

Another 10 months of waiting. >.<

@VV I mean the curse.

This and the free version of the creature editor are basically meant to get people making creatures before the actual game comes out so that the universe will be populated with player-made stuff right from the start.

A delay it is not. They're letting people get used to the creator while simultaneously having streamable content made by players at the game's inception. Quite intelligent, if you ask me.

Besides that, this is a really good marketing idea.
Build up all this excitement via just one editor, and then when they get the game, you've got the microbe editor, the village editor, the spaceship editor and the vehicle editor.
People are going to revere this thing for offering them such wide choice, and they're just giving us a fix before the main dose.

I might actually get this. If I had money.

They actually did something similar for Neverwinter Nights 2 in the fact that they released the toolset early to those that pre-ordered etc. A few of the others are right in that they want to give the community a kick start so there seems to be a lot more going on.

I've got to admit I am tempted, but I will wait until it releases. For now I can satiate myself with Heromachine 2.5 for free. :smallbiggrin:

I'm sorry if this sounds zealous, but is it that hard to check grammar in a thread's title?
