I'm DMing an adventure where the PCs are trying to stop/kill an alchemist turned insane, the alchemist was driven insane by the death of his wife and daughter, while he could not find a cure for them in time. In his insane state, he believes that his wife and daughter are still alive and dying, and he is trying to cure them, through some completely illogical thinking on his part, by using some alchemical substance he needs live human bodies to get, hence he is using his golems and/or constructs to repeatedly attack and kidnap the nearby village. Thus, I need to find some interesting constructs for the PCs to encounter, and there are about four level 5 PCs, any suggestions?

Calzone golem. (Advanced Gingerbread golem from this very site). Give it some fire resistance and allow it to increase its natural armor from taking fire damage. Also give its slam attack a d6 or two fire damage after taking fire damage.

Any time it takes piercing or slashing damage it releasing a scalding/potent spray of marinara sauce that hits everyone within 10 feet. You decide the appropriate amount of damage, I don't know how optimized your party is.

(Ex): Marinara explosion. Target single adjacent creature. Must make (DC appropriate) fortitude save or be nauseated for two rounds due to the overpowering marinara sauce.

My RL gaming group just fought one of these, had like 30 HD and provided a significant challenge to our level 13 party. There were also omlete's that would scream "eat me" as they tried to climb down your throat.

Hey, I don't know what level you're looking at, but here's a pretty interesting one: http://www.dungeonvault.com/2008/04/03/guardian-of-ages/ (http://www.dungeonvault.com/2008/04/03/guardian-of-ages/)

Most golems are still a bit out of reach of your parties capacities. Flesh would probably work ok, but it'd be a really tough combat for your party.

For high level parties, though, I like Shardsteel Golems. Give em a couple of friendly undead allies and the negative energy pulse every 1d4 rounds gives em a little more staying powah. Yay for monster synergy!

Apply morbidity to any appropriate statblock and call it a day. Intestine/Vein/Tendon Golem, Earlobe/Thumb/Tonsil Swarm...

I love "Something's Cooking." For our April Fool's Day gaming session, we played a modified version of it (6th or 7th level, I think) that ended with us fighting a toughened-up Calzone Golem and it's Mozzarella Golem mate, hoping to kill them before they could unleash a horde of baby golems upon the nearby townsfolk.

The homebrew forum here or on the WotC site probably have a ton of stuff you might could use, though you'd have to dig for it. (The Vorpal Tribble probably has something in his Creation Thread (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=831058), but you can look through it yourself.) I know I personally made the Quintessence Golem (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4143243#post4143243), which could work - your Mad Alchemist managed to make one and is using it to not kill townsfolk, but preserve them in quintessence so they'll be alive when he needs them. CR's a little high, though, if the party's 5th level. Of course, most golems have high CRs, so good luck there.

Dragon#358 has the chess-piece constructs called Chaturan

CR 2 pawns, CR 4 knights, CR 5 bishops, CR 7 rooks, and both a CR 9 king and queen.
