OBJECTION! Eh...so...I toggled the wrong Yoshi stage. So Raroy and I have to have at it again. :smallyuk:
FIRST PLACE: Cynan Machae and ?
THIRD PLACE: ?

First Post preserved because I'm a packrat.

Alright, how about the first Brawl tournament?

GitP School's Out Brawl Tournament

School's out (or just about). Therefore, to ring in summer, I propose we all stay indoors and play video games. Woohoo!

Date: Weekend after next (May 31 and June 1). Hopefully this will be enough time to get it done, otherwise we will extend it.
Entry Slots: 16 max
Rules

No character limitations
Stages will be selected by both players choosing "random", with their stage selection sets set to the previously posted Neutral set of stages. Unless someone has a good idea for a way to coordinate counterpicks?
3 stock
8 minute time limit
8-Person randomly decided double-elimination bracket.
Best of 3 games advances.
The prize(s) will be determined later. Probably some kind of image to stick in your sig
Please post your forum account name, Brawl FC, and Brawl account name

You don't need to make an account, only log onto Nintendo Wifi Connection on Brawl and when you do, it will give you your friend code.

And for the stages, the list is into the GitP Brawl Tournament Topic. It would be a good idea to add it to the first post.

Sound's good to me, I'm in as long as there's no problems with what I'm doing.

Stages I like; Temple (Melee), Pictochat, Battlefield, Delfino Plaza, Lylat Cruise.

I will use... Mario (Blue).
Question; Forum name? What's that? For my brawl name, that might switch between "Sammy" or "Geno9"

Look up above your running Leo-Link, kid. That's your forum name. Also, Temple (Melee), Pictochat, and Delfino Plaza are out. Read the rules in the OP.

Geno9999 and I are currently forced to share a copy of Brawl, so I won't be participating (that, and I've got a dead-shift full time job starting the 29th...)

Perhaps... I thought Corneria was an accepted stage in Melee? Wouldn't it be so in Brawl as well? (If anything, the Arwings seem to have less knockback on their lasers anyway...)

2 DAY COUNTDOWN

We'll start this Saturday. 12 o'clock work for everyone to start?

Judging by the number of people, I think I'll change it to a randomly determined double-elimination bracket system. If DrizztFan24 gets in his FC or someone else signs up before he does, I'll lock the entrants at those 8. Otherwise, someone will get a by.

How will it work for playing the games? Will we have a time frame for each round of the bracket? It will go on until sunday?

AlterForm
2008-05-29, 11:57 PM
I hope we'd try to knock out as many games as possible within the time frame of an hour at least. Then we'll bleed into Sunday, and possibly into the week or next weekend if need be.
Alternatively, matches would have to be completed within an agreed upon time frame, with a certain grace period to reschedule (within reason) and coordinate.
And if it fails spectacularly, well, we at least learn how not to run a tourney.

Even at max time of 8 min/match, with best of 3, 24 mins a match, with the max of 6 rounds (if I have my mental check right of how an 8-way double-elimination would go down), that's only 144 minutes, ie a bit more than 2 hours. If games get done a lot faster than that (even a few minutes faster, like 6) it cuts the time down considerably.

Any opinions one which version would be better for those who are participating?

Great games to all to participated. The current bracket is posted in the first post. The two substitutions are Myself for KBF, and Geno9999's brother Thrawn_HCN for DrizztFan24.

We have about 4-6 matches left to complete, so I want to hear what times work best for everyone to continue this.

And I'd like to apologize for the time screwup I made. A note to all tournament-managers in the future: Always be sure to post what time zone you are speaking in!

I might be able to make it at 1 PM MST, however tentative plans for something may make that impossible for me.

AlterForm
2008-06-01, 11:03 AM
Since there aren't any posts mentioning any problems with continuing the tournament in 3 hours and 45 minutes of this post, we'll resume then. That's 1 PM MST, which is apparently 19:00 GMT.

However, an alternative. We simply arrange the current matches between ourselves, doing them whenever we find the time to do so. Then, the players of the match both post who won the match, and every so often I update the bracket. As matches get completed, entrants can extrapolate the next matches based on posted winners.

Hey wait a second, the last match me and Alter played on was Yoshi's Island Melee. (The one with the little blocks and the sides of the match incline upwards.) Yet, that stage is banned (For good reason). I got raped on the stage due to not being able to move around too well and Marth's long rang.

Yeah, why wouldn't it? Sorry about that. Wii's busy atm, though, so we'll have to do it tomorrow probably.

[EDIT]: Yoshi's island, which has just a tilting a platform in the middle and a ghost thingy on the sides. Yoshi's story, on the other hand, has rather slippery ground (at least, I think), is walk-off, has weird sloped slopes, and destructable blocks.

Raroy
2008-06-01, 10:40 PM
Well, you could fall through the middle. And since you could pass through the blocks when they spin you can't side roll to safety. The block on the top make it hard to stay in the air. You could easily knock people off the sides with a good blow. Projectiles and certain attacks become useless due to obstacles. Yeah, a swords man could easily beat people on that stage.

Have you tried placing the Wii in an area were it gets 3 bars? Also, it might not help if you're fighting half way 'round the world from your opponent.

Well the broadcast is having to pass about 2 feet of wall. But isn't alot of space to move it to. My Xbox gets much better reception and its though a few more walls and a ceiling.
