To be more precise: the book it is in.
I vaguely remember there being a prestige class for the arcane ones which uses his own blood for his spells. I remember he had the power of 'blood teleport' and that he can wound himself as a substitute for spell components.
It is not the Blood Magus from Complete Arcane, it looks a lot like it but it wasn't a requirement to have died beforehand (if I'm not mistaken).
