The Rules.
You Read Them!
In order to try and keep these threads from becoming unmanageable, some rules have been created, and they accent the forum rules. Please read those first.

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB one word posts should be spam everywhere. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* should also be considered spam. Quality of content trumps speed of response.
2. Ditch the "competition for control of the universe" eh. It has ceased to be funny, and often branches out into little mock battles that fall into the spam definition laid out above. We've got a PbP section for fights, and even the Town has an arena, I believe.
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well.
4. Stop advertising other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please stop with single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Do not poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. No asking "What's the topic" or the ilk. This is *not* a conversation where you could've missed the begining, it's a forum where the current topic is nicely recorded for you. So read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details

:elan:Anyone found breaking the rules will be sent to stand in the corner and receive a very stern talking to! :elan:

This thread is for random discussion, not random chit chat. There is an IRC chat thingy (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12321) set up for that sort of thing. Not only will you not annoy the people here, you will also help increase the popularity of the IRC chat. It's win/win/win!

Now, ladies and genteelmen, let the bantering begin. :smallamused:

Actually, yes it's true!
Now, time to banter in Raiser's Banter.

Previously on Random Banter

Haruki was attacked with a link to TV Tropes and Teleported into a Realm from which he could not escape. Face of Evil, having caused this, rejoiced from it as he got rid of the Angel, he thought, for good. In the meantime, the others banters. Caught in a Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Yu-Gi-OhTheAbridgedSeries?from=Main.YuGiOhTheAbridgedSer ies) trope, Haruki tried desperately to find a way out. And then he lost The Game.

Also, Curly is English.

The kitty is so soft and pretty. Would you like to pet the kitty?
Hey look, I'm petting the kitty! Pet, pet, pet.

Kitties are perhaps the best of all animals, since they are both soft and pretty.

Also, on the subject of Curly being English: This is still unsubstantiated, Curly is clearly German.

Also, Curly is most likely English. There is still an off-chance she is lying and is actually French, But I doubt it.

Cats aren't lazy, it's just that they're compared to dogs, and they're rambunctious and whatnot...

Also, French? Of course! Why didn't I think of it myself! It's so clear now!

Tomorrow, I have to present an entire semester's worth of writing to my entire Creative Writing class. Fun times, fun times.

On the subject of kitties, a couple of days ago I rescued yet another stray. I reckon she's about 7 weeks old and she's pure fluffy white with blue eyes. She'd climbed up underneath and then inside the engine of my neighbour's Volkswagen Santana and was mewing pitifully inside. There was no way I could leave here there because, well, it was hideously dangerous (and potentially messy). So I spent an hour lying on my back in the street with a torch (that's a 'flashlight' in American) in one hand and globs of kitten food in the other. I left splodges of kitten food over various accesible bits of the engine (apologies to my neighbour, but it's probably better than leaving a live kitten there) and eventually managed to tempt her out far enough to grab her. She's sleeping on my lap now as I type this, but we are trying to find a place to re-home her cos I already have far too many cats.

Did it look like this? Because if so...Serpentine was right, it's a bullant (or bulldog ant, I think may be the correct version nobody uses. Mind you, there are 90 different types or so...almost all are only found in Australia [there's like, one type in New Caledonia...where is that place anyway?])

Is this your ant (warning, if you have a thing about big bugs, you mightn't like the picture...thou hast been warned.)?

They offer foodstuffs, camping supplies and, locally at least, what can only be described as a disturbing amount of firepower, all in one convenient location. The only problem? They are usually giant, wide open stores, which means they are almost certainly going to be crawling with zombies. As such, they would be a good place to stock up, but I wouldn't want to hang around. No, I haven't thought too much about this.

A friend of mine actually had a dream where we all raided a Wal-Mart during a zombie outbreak. Apparently we did rather well.

Apparently 'Wal-Marts' (whatever they are, they seem like an American version of a Co-op but hated) are a good place to hide/take refuge in in case of a Zombie Apocalypse.

Wal-Mart is a store that sells a little bit of everything, We've got plenty over here (Target, K-Mart Costco...), but for some reason Wal-Mart is the most hated.

As for being good for zombies...not really. Besides the fact that everyone's going there, there's loads of doors and windows that would need barricading, and it'll be pitch black if/when the power goes out.

The best thing to do would be to hike/drive out to the middle of nowhere, where you can fortify a house...much like what royalty did during the plague...but with semi-auto rifles and shotguns.

Wal-Mart is hated because they drive smaller stores out of business with their cut-throat tactics. They sell merchandise much lower due to their volume, but raise prices once the competition is gone. While other chains do this, Wal-Mart is the most successful with it.

And not to mention the fact that they are almost everywhere.

This site (http://wakeupwalmart.com/) might shed a little more light on the issue.

I just saw a picture of a giant Lego bee that Pete Wentz is giving to Ashlee Simpson as a wedding present. Proof that Wentz is the emo version of Ralph Wiggum. :smalltongue:

"'Will you Bee my Valentine?' It says Bee! And there's a picture of a bee on it!"
A giant Lego bee sounds awesome. Did you know Ashlee Simpson is pregnant? I learned that from someone with no TV service...

That whole paragraph kinda sounds like a random assortment of words.

Anyway, I don't hate Wal-Mart, but I LOVE Costco for some reason.

Best thing to do in a zombie attack? Well, logic says one of three things will happen.

1. The zombies hunger for flesh, any flesh at all. In this case, the zombies will devour each other. No worries.

2. The zombies require living flesh. In this case, just stand among them and imitate them. They're the living dead, they can't be that smart. Eventually they starve to re-death. No worries.

3. The zombies require living flesh and can detect it with zombie powers. In this case, just move at an average speed of two miles per hour.

For some reason, none of those options work in the movies. I'm not complaing, bring on the gory scenes!

Someone told me it had to do with them using cheap labor to make their in-house stuff...

Still though, I can't really complain about Wal-Mart...There's not really anywhere else within what I'd call a reasonable distance to boycott it.

Most movie/book/tv/whatever zombies are tireless though, so the idea is that no matter how slow they are, they'll keep coming. You'll get tired, or run out of gas, or something, but they won't.

Realistically though, you can't get something from nothing, so the zombies would run out of energy. Unless they could use photosynthesis... Hmm...

Hmm. Plant zombies. I wonder if anyone (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=89069) has (http://ww2.wizards.com/Gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?name=Vigor%20Mortis) ever (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=88960) thought (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=89000) of (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=89038) it (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=89021) before. (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=83908) :smallwink:

I remember reading a Conan comic back in my misspent youth where he battled plant zombies. Specifically, he and Valeria were sailing by this island where this huge plant-thing resided. I don't exactly remember the details, but it placed these seeds in people's heads and turned them into zombie warriors.

The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks also introduced "vegepygmies," which were humans converted into plant-human hybrids that were basically like zombies (except they used crude weapons).

It's a cool concept, though, and it would be a nice spin on the old zombie tradition. Plants need water, and the human body is a good source of it, and photosynthesis would explain how the zombies kept moving. As to why they bit people, that's how the plants would reproduce. They just wouldn't be driven to eat flesh anymore.

Who's Iron Man?

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
Well just pass him there
Why should we even care?

He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
Where he traveled time
For the future of mankind

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold

Now the time is here
For iron man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron man lives again!

Both superheroes. Iron Man wears a robotic suit with a variety of super-powered, high-tech weapons and gadgets. He was recently played by Robert Downey Jr. in th Iron Man film, alongside Gwyneth Paltrow.

Ms. Marvel was a scientist or something working somewhere NASA-related, who's endowed with incredible physical ability, flight, and energy related powers by the alien race known as the Kree.

A personally think they should show as little of Heaven in the film as possible, and when it is ABSOLUTELY necessary, that they should just have a bright white light and voices, because that is pretty much the only way they could do it and still have it somewhat believable. For some reason right now, I just want to start a war.
I don't know how or how I'll fight without armies but... I want a war.

Oh dear, mating season. :smallamused:

Too much muffintosterone sloshing about your system (aside: you can tell by the way his chocolate chips have become inflamed). Just watch WW2 films - or possibly Arnie movies - until the swelling subsides.

Not that I'm counting down this last day between me and my 21st bday or anything...:smallwink:

War is never the answer! ...Probably, at any rate...

I suppose it depends on the type of war... And the weapons involved...

I mean, if it's a beanbag throwing war, then I suppose it's okay. Any other war is out. :smalltongue:

Or maybe a waterballoon war... That'd be awesome...

I have long intended to one day find myself some giant indoor area and construct something akin to a Team Fortress 2 map inside.
Then I have two words for you:
Nerf. War.

That's not the war I wanted earlier though.
That feeling dissipated though. Very odd.

Oh, and, aaaaahhhhh. Three days, 7 exams, no revision.

Monday
History - Stalinist Russia: 45min
History - Interwar politics of Britain: 45min
History - Source Analysis Nazi Germany: 1 hour (failed this is January)

Not that bad... I know Stalinist Russia like the back of my hand, and I'm good on Interwar as long as the question comes between 1918 and 1928.

Tuesday
Philosophy and Ethics: ...

I don't actually know what the module names are. All I know is there should be two exams, but I have three because I'm redoing my January exam which, shock shock horror horror shock shock horror, I failed as well. 3 hours here.
I am in big danger of failing all this because for some reason I suck at the exams for this course. I know everything I need to but I just... I just can't get it down.
Then there's the fact that I'm the only person retaking. Everyone else got like As or high Bs back in January, and the way the other exams are set means I'm going to be the only one in the hall after the 3 hours are up.
*sigh*

Wednesday
Theatre Studies - The written bit. 2 hours.
Not bad. I still need to do my notes up but the exam is piss easy.

Anyway. Bidoofs huh? Thems snazzzy.

Two out of three. Well, two out of two because I only guessed two. That's . . . either lucky or a scary memory.

Stupid train of thought thoughty-stream-thing. *blink* It seems I'm not the most sane person today, well, not exactly focused.
Strange, 'cause I read Sherlock Holmes today and am now watching Tengen Toppa and browsing TV Tropes. Both addicting and the former is so, you know, epic. Epic doesn't even seem to describe it so I'll paraphrase something TV Tropes said: "It runs on the Rule of Cool condensed."
Maybe they're draining my concentration.
Mut be a plot of, um, what was I saying? TV Tropes is cool and totally not setting out to drain everyone's intelligence in an attempt to take over the world before the internet community realises that it's become sentient.
Phew. Escaped that thing, silly internet user nearly stumbled onto our plot.

I blame them for giving us study leave. It was bound to happen.

Neither myself nor most of those I call friends and geeky friends actually understand the point of study leave. At all.
Take the 'geek/nerd' clique thingy: you'd think they actually do what you're meant to and, I don't know, actually study. But they don't. They play computer games, other games, generally lurk on the internet on time wasting sites like . . . I don't know, TV Tropes, read, do nothing, work or all of the above. Studying tends not to come into it. Ever. And this isn't just for the brainy secion either, even the stupidest of geeks will do this.
Really, the only clique (and I do hate using this word so bear with me) are the 'averages' and similar types. 'Jocks' and 'Barbies' don't.
Study Leave is just for teachers to relax. And lose either one-fifth or half their classes.
