I've heard of a Humming Bird Familiar that gives a bonus to initiative. What book is it from?

It's from Dragon Magazine, I believe.

Nevermind, managed to googlefu it.
Dragon 323 page 98
Hummingbird - Master gains +4 bonus in Initiative checks
Use the stats for a Thrush Familiar, which are on DMG p203

And then the elf wizard takes the Natural Link sub level to double the bonus to +8.

And then he takes improved initiative and becomes a swiftblade with 18 dex to get +20 init.

Personally, I like Factotum better. Brains over Brawn gives you your Int modifier to Dexterity checks, and initiative is a Dexterity check.

I've always been a fan of Marshal to get the chr to dex aura. Just how high can the CharOps board get initiative anyway?

Halfling Sorcerer/Marshal/Dread Commando with Improved Initiative, Quick Reconnoiter and Yondalla's Sense.

Charisma To Init
Wisdom to Init
+4 (improved init)
+2 (Quick Reconnoiter)
+5 (Dread Commando Levels)
+4 (Hummingbird Familiar)

...

:P

Don't forget a few levels in Factotum. You now get your Int as a bonus to Initiative as well, since an Initiative roll is a Dex check.

Huh. Throw in Blooded for another +2.

And Nerveskitter, of course.

All put together, you get to act in the previous round.

All put together, you get to act in the previous round.

But anybody can act in he previous round, if they plan ahead.
Like, far enough ahead that the previous round is the next round.

Exemplar can also get Int to initiative, but it takes 8 levels, so I'm not sure it's worth it.

And I think there's a soulmeld that gives a bonus to initiative, too.

A Belt of Battle, besides giving you the (completely cheesy) extra actions also gives +2 initiative. Not sure if it's a named bonus, though. Anyone with a book on-hand know?

+1 Eager dagger of Warning for another +4
UMD a scroll of Signs for a +5 (cleric spell, SpC?)
Combat Readiness for another +6 (Heros of Battle)
Primal Instinct ??? sorc only spell for another +5/6?
Belt of Battle for +2
Luck Stone +1 Luck
Ioun Stone +1 Competance
Elf Wizard sub level to double familar bonus to +8

Leadership to get a cohort who is a Marshall/Dread Commando (5 +cha) aura.

A wizard who really tried could probably get his init into the mid 40s. Who needs Forsight when you are so far ahead in initiative that you should get 2 actions before your opponent gets any....
