Is it just me or do these pure-blooded orcs seem more intelligent than everyone's favorite half-orc barbarian/fighter?

Yeah, they do ^^'''
But as with humans... there are smart and dumb ones. And Thog is... er... special ^^

I like to think of Thog as a mentally deficient (for a half-orc, even) baby who was then dropped onto his head many times and regularly subjected to INT damage.

No one said his human parent was smarter than an orc. Specific heredity trumps racial generalizations.

Maybe he just can't speak common very well?

Thog is an NPC with stats, and Nale said inteligence was his dump stat. The orcs are most likely just taken from the monster manual with the exeption of cheif grukguck, who is the leader and needs good inteligece

I think he was used (Blackadder style) as a melee weapon while a baby. :smalleek:

Perhaps Thog is the way he is because Nale needed a guinea pig for a mind control experiment, and unfortunately the spell backfired and lobotomized our favorite Linear Guild barbarian. Just a thought.

No. Nale said INT was Thog's 'dump' stat. Thog probably got like, a 7 or something, then added his racial modifier and ended up with a 5. I don't think intelligence-draining stuff has anything to do with it. Though the backstory might involve being dropped on his head.

And while were at it, why does Therlka only have one set of teeth, while Thog has two?
