For some reason I have a morbid fascination with the places from which we conduct affairs online asnd such.

Well, work just moved my office (again) so all I have besides the normal office stuff there are a few post-it-note origami pieces I bring with me and a (now solved) Sudoku/Rubik's Cube hybrid thingy. The normal pile of print outs, stuff to troubleshoot/configure/ and mess of serial/networking cables hasn't had much time to accrue yet.

Similarly, I just finished moving into my new apartment yesterday and, while the desk was the first thing to get put together, my collection of gewgaws, tchotchkes, and other assorted bric-à-brac is still in boxes somewhere. I do have my plush Cthluhu (much like the one in the OP picture) up on his throne of blank CD and DVD cylinders though.

My temporary set up has been that way for 8 months now, I will eventually get around to doing what I wanted to do, eventually. Worst part is, I have all the stuff I just haven't put it up yet.

Wow Hydro, your work station is damn cool.

And Rubhakin has a pack of Malboro Lights! I sell them all the time, and have been to Malboro. Dont smoke though, but still, it's almost nostalagic for an ex-checkout operator.

I'd post my workstation but it's not really all that much (like, a laptop on a pull out table) and it's only going to be that way for the next few days, after which it becomes any internet cafe I can find.

My desk is full of :
CD cases

Suske & Wiske comic books.
Money.
Cookie crumbles.
PC + PC equip
Trash can and paper basket, actually its a shoe box I use as a paper basket.
Electrical fly/musquito/other flying stinging thing swatter.
And those boxes of cookies. But I can't really count them since they're empty...
And my watch.

They're all over Eastern Europe. I don't question why. I prefer really strong, really foul tobacco like Belomorkanal, but people would always give me Marlboro Lights. I can't even taste them but I've grown a bit fond.

Hah - when my old boyfriend tried to buy a pack of Sobranie cigarettes for me somewhere in Russia, the guy said, "Why the hell do you want those ****ty smokes? Buy Marlboro Lights!"

I think you can also see Nat Shermans, Pall Malls, Newport menthols, and a lose Lucky wandering around that desk that day. Probably also a miscellaneous cigar. It's less a desk than a tobacco repository. I don't even smoke that much, maybe one every couple of weeks unless I'm working, but I like to keep it a stock item.

Tom_Violence Is that ... is that Mr. Teal?

@Serp Well, no, but it's where I do my work.

First is my room... Which you can guess is where I'm usually at. Sometimes I use my (crappy) computer. But I am usually using the laptop more often now since no one seems to use it much anymore (The laptop is on my bed).

The one with the piano is awesome, i'd like to have room for my keyboard in front of the pc like that...I guess if I practiced more I'd be better with it. Plus I don't feel like taking it out and plugging it in and finding room for it every time I want to play (it's only a midi controller, so it needs the computer).

The last one posted it's neat, I like the table. BTW, what's that game?

Here be mine, taken not but 10 minutes ago, and yes, I straightened it up a bit. Had quite a few water bottles everywhere... >.>

Left side of my desk!
Stuffed animals from my mom. Master Chief. Fiance's gun box (he got a new one). My mountain of PSP games (still debating where I want to put them). Wheel of Time book. Computer Games. Right side of my Desk!
360 (I have to manually switch the cords to play it on my monitor, my $80 KVM switch died on me :smallmad: ). Console games. DS and games. 360 and PS3 controllers (my PS3 is connected to the TV not but 4 feet behind me). Headphones. Printer. Tower. Backlit Keyboard, razor mouse and mouspad. Hard Drive. Filing Box for all the important stuff. Sub woofer. And yes that be some Cptn. Morgan Spiced Rum and Coke (My fiance went out drinking with the guys, brought it home and said I HAD to try it, month later, keep forgettting to drink it.
Yes, that's a palm tree you see, normally it's filled with insanely green grass but it died and I tore it out, not sure if I want to re-seed and grow it again.

@Amotis - Hand cuffs!!! I keep mine on the corner of my bed. >.>

Oh also, to quell any questions of the paint on my walls. Last tax season I decided to completely re-do the room, I'm always in it and I hated how boring it was. I went to go see 300 and decided I wanted a bit of a rustic greek theme. Lots of browns. So the walls are a dark tan, borders and roof are a light tan and those grey lines are greek columns. Every corner of the room has the colums (took me forever!) at the top of the colums are vines, leaves and flowers. Actual fake ones too.
I'm beginning to wish I went with a pirate theme now though... >.> Haha

Thanks, Dragon! Yeah, I like stuff big. Granted, in widescreen internet browsing gets weird cause it doesn't take the whole screen sometimes. But it'd be fussy to keep window sizes to fit two Fx, for example. Besides, I've tried it, doesn't work cause I have 120ppp so it's bigger.
And in any case, now I have two monitors, so I throw stuff to the left when I need to. It's really sweet. It doesn't totally work with games, though yesterday shortly after that I was making Spore creatures while browsing (though in windowed mode for it).

Nice set-up Fuddle. How big is that new monitor? It looks shockingly like my current screen.

22 inch widescreen Samsung 2253nw. Pretty big, I'd say. Funny how before this I thought there could be something as a "monitor that was too big". 24 inch was too expensive, otherwise... :p Expensive hobby, granted, but I had the money.

@Penguin: that's a lot of penguins! Awesome!

@Logic: Nice monitor, what brand/size is it?
BTW, I've heard that keeping the case open screws with the flow of air and doesn't do any good for refrigeration. I take it it's not what you're doing it for, but do keep it in mind.

@Penguin: that's a lot of penguins! Awesome!.

Yeah, there are 8 or 10 that didn't make it into the frame. I'm not sure what the current total count is, but people keep giving them to me. There are also at least 10 non-penguins (and one quasi-penguin) mixed in there.

Your setup is pretty cool. I used to do the multi-monitor thing when I had my linux box - but i wasn't cool enough to have more than one lcd, and the crt's started hurting my eyes. I've considered getting another cinema display for my imac (and I still may, at some point), but I've found with expose & corners, the extra space is considerably less important in *most* applications.

...See that cow on the speaker? He poops delicious Jelly Beans!...

Heh. One of my penguins 'poops' m&m's, but I have to admit jelly beans are inherently superior...

I work from home, so mine is kind of a "work" station, but it's also my 'play' computer. I think the general interpretation of "workstation" anymore is "desk with computer on it" though, whether any work is actually accomplished there or not...

Thanks! Has nothing to do with coolness, really, only with money. Else I wouldn't be able to pull it off.

But yeah, I find it useful most of the times. I've been running some games in windowed mode in the small monitor and it works pretty good. And to be honest, for more mundane tasks like internet and browsing it's great, being that I tend to open lots of simultaneous browser windows.

"Workstation" means that it can be used to work. I agree that with most of us it's not the case all of the time ^^ But PCs are great like that, you can use the same system to work, play, internet, and anything you can think of. This alone is why PC > consoles. But that's a topic for a different thread (and it's been done).

Its an HP w2207. 22" and I love it. I purchased it mainly for the adjustable everything (height and tilt, which was for some reason not included on other monitors) and it swivels, but I don't use that at all.

You are correct, in cases with well designed airflow keeping the side panel on is preferable. However I have a negative pressure differential, too many output fans and not enough input fans so my 9800gtx heats up quite a bit, it helps with idle temps a bit plus with my fan on a stand I can point it at me and the computer and cool them both a bit. But yeah, the thing is a freaking space heater...
