I. Like. J-Pop. There, I said it.

I tend to like music no one else likes over here... <.< Anyone ever heard Reggaeton? I freakin' hate it.

Rap? Nah, don't like it overall. There are, however, two rap songs that I really like.

I like that old time rock 'n' roll
That kind of music that soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll!

I also like most country (no bubblegum pop country)and I love Irish folk music( The Dubliners for the win!). Also, Flogging Molly. They're great.

I'm somewhat living in the past whem it comes to music. I love Pink Floyd, Led-Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Doors, The Who, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop and The Stooges.

But I also enjoy a lot of present bands. Including; The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, H.I.M, Korn, Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, System of a D.

But perhaps this belongs in the Media Message Board. No clue.

My ipod contains lots of British invasion and classic rock; lots of foreign music, mostly German; LOTS of They Might Be Giants and other comedy music groups like Da Vinci's Notebook and Flight of the Conchords. Also some classical music and assorted songs and soundtracks.

Ah, I did'nt say what my favorite music was! I like mostly Video game music and rock, but also enjoy J-pop ( The world ends with you is that culprit) and classical. But I can like any kind of music except for rap. It just erks me.

People say my tastes are indy, and I like the sound of it (and Questionable Content), so I'll go with that.

My 5 favorite musicians/bands are (in no particular order) Leonard Cohen, Damien Rice, Modest Mouse, Tom Waits and Bright Eyes.

I like epic, panoramic music - along the lines of O Fortuna or the soundtrack to Braveheart. I also like showtunes, provided they are sung either operatically or in that clear, carrying, inimitable Broadway fashion - my personal reason for hating High School Musical. And I like traditionally-flavored folk music. Bonus points if it's angry, Irish, and written prior to 1920.

I normally despise rap, but it might be mainly a lyrics issue, because this gorgeous track in my second-favorite anime uses it to excellent effect. (Strangely enough, it shares some lyrics with the most beautiful track in my favorite anime. And a debut episode number, come to think of it. Anyway, rap does preclude it from the sheer magnificence of the other piece, but all in all, it's much more enjoyable to listen to.)

Screamo, however, I utterly despise. The "mere exposure" effect does nothing but wear off the shock to the eardrums, and it doesn't even kick in by the seventh iteration. There are precisely four good things about screamo, and they sort of run the gamut of allegiance, and they're kind of a visual, and you really have to be there.

A disturbing percentage of the post I have just written is about anime. Ah well.

Hmm well I say I like everything..... but I have preferences...

Well my main love has got to be ska/ska-punk/reggae/dub/rock steady/anything with an offbeat...
Another huge love is Drum and Bass, but not the rubbish stuff, mostly jazz drum and bass with a bit of downright dirty stuff!
Umm other than that I like but not limited to;
Punk, Rock, Hip Hop, French Electro House, Acoustic stuff, Jazz....

I'm pretty varied with what I like but I think that comes from playing bass for 8 or so years....

Edit: I can never get the soundtrack from Pan's Labyrinth out of my head.

Mmm. I listen to things like Naglfar, Arsis, Radigost, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy, and the like.

...much to the chagrin of 90% of the people who tell me they like "everything" or "everything but rap and country", since most of them apparently didn't realize such music exists.

Lesse *opens up playlist*:

Rock mostly, and mostly from around the late 90's to early 2000's (Default, 3 Doors Down, Tantric), it seems. Though there's a bit of rap mixed in (a very very small bit), some older rock (Metallica, The Eagles), there's a handful of country songs I don't abhor, and a couple songs from musicals (Rent and Phantom of the Opera, mostly).

I like a lot of classic heavy metal, but also some of the more modern power metal (such as Blind guardian ). I also like some older rock such as Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep and some other stuff. Outside of rock I don't like much. It's not that it's bad. It's just that since an early age all of the music I listen to has the electric guitar, and without it music seems kind of....lacking.

Congratulations. Only number 2, but, well, it's a start. You'll come round. :smalltongue:

I can find bands to like from pretty much any genre, so I'll be unrepresentative and list my 7 fav bands:

Metallica, Emperor, Opeth, Agalloch, Porcupine Tree, Insomnium, Enslaved, Wintersun. Also, chalk Ihsahn's/Serj Tankian's solo work up there.

'80s New Wave and Power Ballards are my 2 favourite genres. I tend to like a lot of varied bands, though (some people find it odd that I like both Placebo and Tears for Fears).

I like all types of rock, unless the lyrics are stupid. I define what's stupid, and it's not very consistent, so we'll just say I like rock.

I also like jazz, being a tenor saxophonist myself, and legit, from older pieces to movie soundtracks.

There is one electronica/techno/whatever-the-hell-it's-describable-as song that I like, and that is Spitfire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svann6OzFuw). That song is epic. Like take on twenty Hydra at once alone epic. With your fists.

I guess I'm the odd one out. I like a number of types of obscure music.
in alphabetical order,
Bluegrass (Blind Boys of Alabama are great),
Classical (especially baroque and romantic Grieg is one of my faves),
Celtic (I don't own any though :smallfrown: )
Folk (Kingston Trio),
Instrumental (I love most stuff by Phil Keaggy),
Indy (I have some of the Shins, and the White Stripes among other),
Jazz (everything from Miles Davis, to Herbie Hancock),
Modernized Classical (like Bond, or Vanessa Mae),
Ska (old stuff, like The O.C. Supertones),
Zydeco
I also like Carmina Burana, and some musicals like "Phantom of the Opera" but am not sure exactly where to put that in my list

I grew up on country music so it's always on my playlist. Especially Big & Rich, Garth Brooks, George Strait and the like.

Of course there is always Queen, the best rock band to ever live.

:) I tend to like lots of different styles of music really.

Except rap. ;)

Mostly rock, like the rest of you here :smallwink: I do like bluegrass music and electric as well tho.

And I have quite a couple of broadway/disney songs on my iPod :smallamused:

O yeah, and for those of you who like Flogging Molly, I saw them exactly a week ago in Amsterdam, and they were as great as ever :smallcool: nothing like a pit that covers the entire room/hall thingy to have a great night. I actually lost a shoe for most of the night, but they had a PILE of shoes afterwards and it was in there

Oh, sorry. Anyway.
My favorite bands: Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, Demon Hunter, Haste the Day, Metallica, Apocalyptica.

Other bands that I like enough to mention: Arch Enemy, As I Lay Dying, Drowning Pool, Godsmack, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Linkin Park, Machine Head, Pantera, Seether, Shadows Fall, Trivium

Besides the metal, I like some classical music. The Carmina Burana, Mozart's Requiem, Verdi's Requiem, and Handel's Messiah are all great.

I've really been getting into folk-punk stuff of late, Against Me! and The Gaslight Anthem being prime examples. I also like indie, punk, alt rock, and select metal bands. Nightwish, Modest Mouse, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, NoFX, and the like.
