In 562 (current) strip, I believe the books Kabuto is reading are the 4e books from Amazon... what could this mean for our Heroes?

Therkla will cease to exist

Haha...that's an awesome catch! I think you're right on. All the signs are there. It shipped from Amazon, it looks exactly like the book cover...

Hmm...

Is he trying to gain a tactical edge?

I believe he is currently perusing the DM guide...

Also it wouldn't affect anything or give him that much of an advantage as the story is set in the 3.5 rules...Maybe he's going to setup a game.

I think it's probably just a shoutout to the fact that the 4E rulebooks just came out.

Also it wouldn't affect anything or give him that much of an advantage as the story is set in the 3.5 rules... Umm… no (http://www.giantitp.com/index.html#v99jlZZ8IxKfDCwHZwU)?

Ino (http://www.giantitp.com/index.html#v99jlZZ8IxKfDCwHZwU)?

So... you link an article of Rich saying that OOTS would stay 3.5... in order to disagree with someone saying that the strip was set in 3,5?

He also stated in that post that he would be making 4.0 jokes as well. Essentially, OotS runs on whatever system makes the punchlines work.

That's a good 4e cameo. Yep, that is definately 4e, the amazon box is a giveaway. I bet in the next comic, he will have Durkon checking out the books as well, with Elan saying, "But...where am I?"

Actually, my bet is that V will do so before Durkon, since he is especially interested in making rules work in his favor right now.

I also think V will breach the cloister a minute before its effect expires

For story purposes, it's just important that Kubota be doing something else when Therkla shows up, so he can make a show of not caring about what she has to say. As to why that something else is perusing the 4e rulebooks, Kubota is just doing the same thing a bunch of other D&D folks are doing about now.

May I just add that warriorwoman.com is doing an amazing job of shipping? He's on a ship anchored off the coast of a savage half-orc island, and which was some other place entirely a few days ago, and they still managed to get to him on time.

I thought he said "Imagine it as a bastardized hybrid between 3.5 and 4"..

I agree with the poeple above me who said that he's just doing what so many other people are doing right now (including me at world wide gaming day yeasterday  )

We must not allow this new world order and allow him to genocide the gnome people!

Sorry, Belkar killed the last one already...

Alternately, the rest have gotten angry over the halfling's murderous ways and have decided to become monsters ;)

Who would build all the gizmos for the alliance during the tide of darkness?

Blast! Why is a man on a ship, away from any mail-courier service higher on Amazon's shipping list than I am?:smallannoyed: My Amazon order still hasn't shipped yet!

Come to think of it, Kubota must have picked some giant-sized edition... those books are quite large.

BTW, Kabuto is a Pokemon. (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Kabuto) It's also a helmet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabuto)...

Gobs work for the orc army!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his name is Kubota... Kabuto is (among other things) Orochimaru's very charismatic underling (http://tailedfox.com/forum%20images/kabuto.jpg) in Naruto.

So things about 4ed were already said.....

Gobs work for the orc army!

Now, now, that's not what the retcons say at all. They're a neutral faction now. I guess the Horde just outbought the Alliance in the Second War.

Of course, his name is Kubota. Did you know he owns a tractor company? (http://www.kubota.com/f/home/home.cfm)

From what I've heard of the 4e rules... he will probably try to disprove Therkla's and Elan's existence. Failing that, he will attempt to reach level 30 or learn a ritual or somesuch.
