Inquisitor. (http://www.specialist-games.com/inquisitor/default.asp)

Forerunner to Dark Heresy, free (and legitimate (!) ...) download of the rulebook, more flexible, and, easily added to - just see some of the house rules discussed over at the Conclave. (http://the-conclave.co.uk)

with a brief look at the rules it is so much more balanced than DnD 3.5 for making characters, oh wait there is a space marine hahah

Well, I've started up with Dark Heresy and it's good fun. I play with WH40K tabletop veterans, so there's no real question about how to roleplay.

I've set them up on the Hive World of Slax (of my invention) and I've tried to shove a bit of everything in. The Interragator they work for, Alcaturn, is sending them to bust crime lords. Simple stuff, right? Alcaturn actually wants to eliminate these gang lords as they're past associates of his, so he can forge his own criminal syndicate of his on Slax. Meanwhile, the Adeptus Arbites is being paid off to turn a blind eye to the crime, and heretics plan to take down the thermal generator at the core of the planet which supplies power to all of Slax's electrics- its defences included. These heretics, if not stopped, will summon daemons onto Slax and wipe it out utterly.

We originally were going to start up Inquisitor, but held out for Dark Heresy and it's good fun. It all depends what floats your boat, really.

As you'd expect, DH is a gritty, morbid and blackly humorous roleplaying game- it's well balanced, has a cool character creation system and is just good fun all round.

It's not meant to be balanced as such - it's got a much more naturalistic, grimdark feel to it (if you're playing right, your stats should be degrading over time).

I'm currently dabbling in Dark Heresy, although I'm not fully up to speed with the rules, I'm the only one in my area with a book, so I'm consdering running a camaign. Wouldn't mind joining one on the net though to see how it runs and clear up any rules misunderstandings with personal experience.

I like how not everybody can be space marine tough, but I'm a little disappointed at the lack of range in the enemies available.
