Mine is probably the bit in Responsible where Roy meets up with Eric again before playing blocks with him (I thought the whole scene was quite cute).

Wow... really?

That was a really touching and emotional scene, but I would -never- have called it a hilarious one.

Belkar killing the gnome will always have a special place in my heart because as he throws the knife he is just so expressionless. You can almost hear him say "Eh." Meanwhile, the gnome is dead instantly, still standing and everything.

But my favorite moments aren't really the comedic ones, but the dramatic ones that illustrate that this isn't a gag-strip, there is a serious, far-reaching plot behind it.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0406.html I went about three months without internet access at the start of 2007, so when I could get online again I caught up on OotS and this is among the strips. I was blown away that something this significant happened. Who had actually died and was gone before this? Literally gone from the strip for good, never coming back (except for a magic-related message)? Plus the repercussions for Miko, ultimately leading to the Azure City gate being destroyed...

Then a few more weeks went by where I couldn't get online so much, and I missed this when it first happened: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0443.html

Being unfamiliar with much of D&D at the time (specifically the idea of raising people), I probably would have freaked out if I had been reading this at it's normal release rate when it happened. Killing a NPC like Shojo is one thing, but the star? Of course Haley and Durkon discussed raising him two strips later, but still... Separating one of the characters from everyone else is hardly new to the strip (who hasn't it happened to? Seriously?), but via death?

And then that led to this:

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0498.html

and

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0499.html

Probably my favorite moment that acts as a shock to the system. It's all sublimely done, fully explained and logical and no one can cry 'foul.' It's the perfect way to flash-forward over a lot of essentially superfluous story (neither part of the team did anything so significant during the three months that we really needed to see them do it) without something hackneyed or just a basic "Well, now it's three months later" title card.

All the jokes are easy to remember and recall, but if this was a simple gag-strip I don't know if I would have followed it for I don't know how long now. Have I been reading this for four years? ::checks date on the 8-Bit Theater guest strip:: Yes. Yes I have. Damn.

And I'll end this getting-too-long post with adding that anything related to Durkon's fear of trees is among my favorite bits.

The name of this thread is a tad misleading given the actual question asked. That having been said ... I do not laugh at comics too often (Not because I do not think they are funny, it is just not the sort of thing I laugh out loud at), but http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0520.html definitely made me chortle.

On the subject of favorite "dramatic" ones, http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0393.html without a doubt for me. I found it very powerful and well done. Plus I had a perfect song to go along with it when I first read it, so it has become embedded in my mind.

I know the comic wasn't a bit funny (to be honest, I didn't read the first post properly due to assuming it would ask the same question as the thread title, and I was in a rush).

Wow, there's just so many comics I instantly recall for being memorable, impressive or just wickedly funny. I usually go for multiple strips, since some gags and jokes take multiple comics to get told fully therefore

Funny:

Haley's jokes about Roy's Sex Change (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0236.html), especially the "so now you turn into one, when the moon is full". That one gets quoted way to much between me and my friends :P

No WAY:

Miko killing Shojo. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0406.html)...just no WAY!!! :smallamused:

Aaaaww:

Haley and Elan finally getting together :) lovely

And to finish it off:

the one where the subplots get resolved (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0401.html)

Artistically, I keep going back to the big frames in 483-484, but I actually think seeing Belkar get what's coming to him in 568-569 is the moment I liked the most.

The only thing that might be better would be seeing Elan getting similar treatment, but he's too innocent for things like that to happen to him.

From way back: 127 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0127.html). I could NOT stop laughing after reading it on my first Archive Binge.

Also, this one (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0383.html) and this one (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0385.html). Frickin' hilarious.

I'll second a bunch of the ones above, namely Miko killing Shojo and Roy's death.

EDIT: My links don't appear to work, I'm not sure why. The comics are 127, 383, and 385.

This (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0386.html) was the first strip of OOTS I ever read. And I'm very happy about that (where should you start if not the most confusing strip in the series for a new reader?). The leprechaun suit made me lose a lung when I saw it the second time around.

And though I'm sure this has likely been mentioned multiple times, I still want the last part of this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0385.html) as a poster or something.

And for not ha-ha-ha, my favourite moment of the comic was one quote: Hello. My name is Yokyok. You killed my father. Prepare to die. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0348.html) The lawful neutral-to-good kobold who simply wanted revenge for a murdered father was the one character I was genuinely surprised and saddened to see die. Every other person killed by Belkar was either an arse that deserved it or a bland npc (or the recent murder, which I'll keep silent about since it is technically a spoiler).

I'v seen that today for the second or third time, and still laughed. He's alsaw chasing B while saying (in madness) the words: "Hello, My name is Yokyok, You killed my father, Preaper to die!" and the whole time, B is shauting: "STOP SAYING THAT!"

Just like in the movie...

Jumping back into the thread to mention 451 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0451.html), which quite possibly could be my single favorite moment in the series. Even if you don't consider it a massive shift in the strip's story (I believe an argument could be made, because this is the turning point in the war), it's still one of the best character moments in the series, and that it's a villain doesn't diminish it at all.

Redcloak has become my favorite villain in all media, this is the springboard for it.

I don't think I can choose one. I know that each comic is meant to stand alone, and they usually do have a joke each, but to me it's still a big story. It would be like choosing my favourite paragraph of a book I love. Probably not impossible, but very hard indeed.

I'm ready to bet it would have some Redcloak-CitD/Xykon interraction though.

I second this.

I also love already mentioned 406, 407, 389, all strips from 406 to Miko's death (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0460.html).

Also 34 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0034.html)
87 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0087.html)
154 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0154.html)

409 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0409.html) kickass too! This is probably the weakess physical attack belkar ever made, but it was also the funniest. Plus Roy was just too badass on the swing.

It wasn't in the comic, but somewhere in the fan art, someone drew a zombie bard singing "Eat, eat, eat the tasty brains..." That just cracked me up. But in the comic... there's just to much to choose from!

This is my first entry here - hope it is not too long

First of all, I find OOTS truely amazing is so many way, from the artwork (why anybody would critisize this is rediculous as it is integral to the art of RB who after all is the creator of OOTS - to me it is perfect to the story!) over the interesting and classic gaming story and the recognisable elements from my own roleplaying game experiences to the excellent humour. Thanks!

Therefore it is difficult to point out which ONE character or moment is my favourite. I could pick out any character and moment related to them, but I would suggest these (17 to 20):
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0017.html
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0018.html
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0019.html
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0020.html

I have read in the comics that Varsuvius was the last addition to the characters. As I am partial to Varsuvius (as well as Xykon), I am glad he was included! And these strips really are defining Varsuvius!

"I love the smell of bat guano in the morning!"
Varsuvius OOTS#20
+
"In the future, remind me to wail till late afternoon before insulting Varsuvius.
At the earliest!"
Belkar OOTS#20
