The Laughing Man
of what I've written, this one is my personal favorite. Some parts are just bizarre, but a lot is semi-autobiographical.
Oh, they once called me the laughing man
I'd laugh until I cried
But now I'll never laugh again
For Molly she has died

And once I had a good best friend
With him I'd share my joy
But my best friend has met his end
And I'm no laughing boy

My friend got all the women
I wanted for myself
With girlies he'd go swimmin'
An' I'd stack books on my shelf

One day the girls came for my friend
They called me Fatty Chuckles
And that upset me to no end
I let them feel me knuckles

I've heard it said, and very well
To never strike a woman
But these were demons straight from Hell
Not any kind of human

The devils gone, I sat right down,
And laughed until I cried.
While buyin' his Bride a wedding gown
My best friend up and died.

And while comforting his Molly
I thought she was so fine
That not realizing folly,
I had to make her mine.

The one dark and rainy night
My Molly's soul to wing
But I was too busy laughing
Into the face of the King

CODA: So now both of my friends have gone
May the liquor drown me brain!
And I beat and bash meself
For not noticing their pain.
But now I swear by thunder
I won't laugh 'till I die
From now on, all I'll do,
Is hang me head and cry.
