The Rules.
You Read Them!
In order to try and keep these threads from becoming unmanageable, some rules have been created, and they accent the forum rules. Please read those first.

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB one word posts should be spam everywhere. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* should also be considered spam. Quality of content trumps speed of response.
2. Ditch the "competition for control of the universe" eh. It has ceased to be funny, and often branches out into little mock battles that fall into the spam definition laid out above. We've got a PbP section for fights, and even the Town has an arena, I believe.
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well.
4. Stop advertising other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please stop with single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Do not poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. No asking "What's the topic" or the ilk. This is *not* a conversation where you could've missed the begining, it's a forum where the current topic is nicely recorded for you. So read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details

:elan:Anyone found breaking the rules will be sent to stand in the corner and receive a very stern talking to! :elan:

In the darkest of times in Cat-Muffin history we have persevered.
When we were first cast into your dark world that smells rather odd, we continued.
When we found ourselves chased from our new homeland by wizards, we continued.
When we were left stranded in a new world by poor navigational skills, we continued.
Even when we set upon by John the Tearer, a terrible murderer with some unknown grudge against Cat-Muffins, we continued.
And how did we continue?
Because we know how to do one thing well, one thing that keeps all species going when the going gets tough, one thing that unites all sentient beings under one banner, one thing that connects and binds the universe together and stops it spilling out of the bath.

Suitably epic. Now how are you going to top that for RB #100 Jib? :smallamused:

In other news, Eggy has a nasty crack in its' head shell that is letting the pain pour in (this doubtless presages thunderstorms tonight).

I came to this thread for an important announcement, and look what I discover.

Please everyone, Random Banter is NOT a Random Spam thread. It is for conversation that doesn't quite fit anywhere else. Please, please give your posts more genuine content and cut back on the spam.

P.S. Conversations held using an "Objection" script would fall under the excessive formatting rule.

BAH! Okay, Alarra and I bought a really nice new refrigerator from BestBuy this weekend. We were really jazzed about it becuase it's exactly what we'd been looking for (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1202650462536&type=product) and we got it for $900 dollars off simply because it was a floor model. Bonus!

Only, when they tried to deliver it today the delivery guys noticed that the power cord was broken. One of the three prongs was broken off so we wouldn't be able to plug it in once inside. Thankfully, at least, they noticed it before they even got it off the truck instead of when it was in the house ready to be plugged in.

Normally this wouldn't be a big deal except that we don't have many days being home in the next week and half for them to take it back, get it fixed, and get it back to us. We're leaving in a few hours to head to the TN meetup, coming back Monday evening. We'll be home Tuesday, which is when the water line is scheduled to have been hooked up. And then we leave to go get married early on Wednesday morning and won't be back until next Monday night.

I'm hoping to hell they can get it delivered first thing next Tuesday so that we can keep our water line installation appointment. We'll have to see. I called the service department and told him the deal about only having one delivery/installation day available next week and he said he'd see what he could do to work it out and then call me while I'm on the road today.

And ironically, after they went through the trouble of blocking harmless image hosting sites, they didn't bother blocking sites like adclick.

Weed-tree. A tree that grew without being bidden to do so, often in a place that did not get mowed often enough.

In this case, somebody noticed that it was growing by our rock, and, thinking it was a bush, encouraged it. After not so many years, we noticed that it was a tree, and let it go about its treely ways. Now I fear it is sick and may soon die. Alas for the tree, I hardly knew it.

Met Terry Pratchett. Signing for "Pyramids" waaaaay back. Quick hi.
Met Craig Charles (Red Dwarf and Robot Wars). He's a coked up little Scouse g*t. I was SO disappointed.
Met Al Murray when he played Newcastle.
Met a couple of the Ncl United football team, some tv actors and some guys in rock bands when bar working. They were...pretty bland, but then I suppose most people are outside their preferred environment.

I'd probably go buh...ah...buh...buh...YOUAREMYGOD! at Harrison Ford, and I'd probably go away from meeting Elizabeth Dushku (from "Buffy") with the impression that I'd been talking to our Saithis. :smallwink:

Silly, light reading. Very well-developed world/universe. Constant comment on the world, different nations, human foibles, etc., and also sideways looks at fairytales, superstition, theatre, beauracracy, leadership, law, time, etc. I know a lot of people don't actually like it - I think one guy said it's "not clever" or something. There's lots of different lines that focus on different things. If you give us an idea of what you're into, we can point you in the right direction. I strongly suggest that if you find you don't like one, you try another in a different set - there's so many there's bound to be some weaker ones, and finding one on something you're interested in can really make it click for you.
So yes, but I'm not gonna talk it up at you kinda :smalltongue:

I've gone snowboarding with Tom Hanks before. Well, not with him, but we were going down the same overpriced mountain at the same time. He's one of my favorite actors. I'm more interested in meeting musicians though... I've met a lot. I've met Sigur Ros, Built to Spill(they live here though), the Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba (cool dude).

I want to meet Robert Smith from the Cure and ask him how he ends up writing such depressing music when he's been with the same girl since he was 14. Also, I'm listening to Burn by The Cure, which might be the best Cure song.

That's a very vague plot synopsis, but it's an awesome film.

Very long plot synopsis of Dragonheart from Wikipedia.
England, A.D. 934: The cruel and tyrannical Saxon King Freyne summons his young son Einon (Lee Oakes) and Einon’s mentor Bowen (Quaid) to witness the suppression of a peasant rebellion. Though the king’s troops are ultimately victorious, Freyne is killed when the rebels stage an ambush. Einon rushes into the fray to claim his crown and is accidentally stabbed through the heart before Bowen can reach him.

Though the wound should have been fatal, the young king’s mother hopes for a miracle. Queen Aislinn (Julie Christie) has her son taken to a cave in the mountains where she pleads with a shadowy figure to save the young man’s life. The creature, a dragon, recognizes Aislinn as "the daughter of the Celts," whose people had revered his kind as their friends. For her sake, the dragon removes a part of its own heart and bestows it upon the boy, cauterizing the wound with a blast of fire. Einon revives and is carried home to recover. Grateful for the dragon’s sacrifice, Bowen pledges to repay his debt at a future time.

Shortly thereafter, Einon reveals himself to be as brutal and pitiless as his father, enslaving the former rebels and forcing them to begin work rebuilding the nearby ruins of a Roman castle. As the young king gives the order to have the rebel leader blinded, Bowen intervenes and allows the man to escape. Believing that the dragon’s heart is responsible for Einon’s wickedness, Bowen returns to the cave and vows to seek vengeance for the ruin of his protégé.

Twelve years later, Einon's (Thewlis) castle is rebuilt and Bowen becomes a formidable dragon-slayer. During one dragon-hunt, the knight meets Brother Gilbert (Postlethwaite), a monk and aspiring poet. Impressed by Bowen’s prowess, the priest is determined to follow him and record his heroic exploits in epic verse. The knight stalks another dragon to its cave and engages it in battle, resulting in a stalemate. The dragon (Connery) shrewdly informs Bowen that he is the last of his kind, and that the dragon-slayer will have difficulty finding work if the two “pursue this fracas to its final stupidity.” Since their options are either Bowen kills the dragon and is out of work, or the dragon kills Bowen and has to deal with the next knight out to make a name for himself, the dragon proposes a partnership, and the two begin defrauding local villages with staged dragon-slayings; the dragon attacks a village, Bowen offers to kill him for a fee, and pretends to spear the dragon, who then falls into a nearby lake and swims out of sight underwater. Since the dragon’s name is difficult for the human tongue to pronounce, Bowen calls him “Draco”, after a constellation of stars that resembles a dragon.

Meanwhile, Einon encounters Kara (Meyer), the rebel leader’s daughter, and realizes that she was responsible for his injury years before. He has her imprisoned and attempts to seduce her, but she stabs him in the shoulder with surprisingly little effect. He leaves Kara alone to consider his offer, and Queen Aislinn helps her escape. Draco feels the pain of the wound, but continues to hide the connection between himself and Einon from Bowen.

In her home village, Kara attempts to instigate a new uprising. When Bowen and Draco arrive the villagers offer the girl as a virgin sacrifice to appease the dragon. At Draco’s lair, the dragon and knight argue about what to do with Kara as Einon approaches and demands that she be returned to him. Bowen and Einon duel, with the older man at a disadvantage because he is not truly willing to harm his former student. In the course of the fight, Bowen is heartbroken to realize that Einon never changed: he was always an evil man, and he only pretended to agree with Bowen's idealism to learn the sword. When Einon gains the upper hand, Draco intervenes and Einon flees in terror. Kara attempts to persuade Bowen to help her overthrow the oppressive king, but the disillusioned knight refuses.

The next scam attempt goes poorly when Draco lands in shallow water, preventing him from sinking to the bottom and forcing him to fly away to avoid being eaten, leaving Bowen, Kara and Brother Gilbert in danger from angry villagers. Draco rescues the three and carries them to the island of Avalon. Taking shelter from a rainstorm amongst the tombs of the fallen Knights of the Round Table, Draco reveals that the constellation he was named after is, essentially, a dragon heaven, where dragons may go to upon death if they earn a place. He attempted to gain a place there by saving Einon, hoping his heart would change the prince's nature and once again unite the races of Man and Dragon, but, although depressed by his failure, agrees to help Gilbert and Kara in the rebellion. Bowen initially remains behind, but when he experiences a vision of Arthur's knights, he remembers the high ideals he once tried to instill in Einon, and agrees to join the rebellion.

During the battle between the peasants and Einon’s forces- which goes far better than the last rebellion due to Draco's firepower and Bowen's tactical expertise-, the king is shot with an arrow. The resulting pain causes Draco to fall from the sky over Einon’s castle and the dragon is captured. Einon realizes that sharing the dragon’s heart renders him virtually immortal so long as no harm befalls the dragon, and determines to keep Draco alive and imprisoned indefinitely. Wanting to end her son's evil, Queen Aislinn tries to kill Draco, wanting to redeem herself for saving 'a creature not worth saving', but is stopped and killed by Einon.

When the rebels invade the castle, Bowen intends to release his friend, but Draco tells Bowen that in order for Einon’s reign to end he himself must die, and begs the knight to kill him. At first, Bowen does not want to but as Einon rushes towards him, Bowen reluctantly does so. This releases Draco’s soul to the dragons’ heaven - where he becomes a new star in the constellation - and killing Einon in the process. The film concludes with an epilogue by Brother Gilbert stating that Bowen and Kara went on to lead the people in an era of peace and prosperity, and that, whenever things were particularly difficult, Draco's star shone all the more brightly, for those who knew where to look.

I also have an Indy box set(Which is now ruined because of the new film:smallannoyed:). and loads of episodes of Buffy and Angel and Dark Angel.

Peh.
We have most of the Disney classics. We also have (floating around in the extended family) all of Thundercats, The Last Unicorn, Thunderbirds, Stingray, all of Buffy, all of Angel, most Tim Burton films, all the Indy ones bar the new one, all of Star Wars now, a lot of Jackie Chan films, a lot of Stevan Seagul films (me mum like him), all of Die Hards, one ton of horrors/supernatural films and the like.
To be honest, if it's geeky we'll have it.
One of my uncles even downloaded all the episodes of every Star Trek 9except the animated series and Enterprise), Heroes, Lost for pete's sake and loads more.
We're now starting to collect anime too.

SAT Scores just posted themselves online. I feel smart, but I know you all too well, and if you post your scores, I'll feel stupid, because there are some real geniuses out here.

In what universe? Do they make Band-Aids for your brain? Or do I just have to buy the home trepanning kit to manually remove those memories?

In every universe. I didn't like Team Rocket... but, well that was mind-changingly good. Even if it means I'm crazy!

What I find funny is just how much James reminds me of Pegasus.

I'm so ambiguously camp!

He was kinda weird. Kinda very weird. Also a dirty, low-down, yeller bellied cheat.

Argh. Stop itching hand! Stop gorram itching! *hits hand against mysterious black obelisk*

I had to try to sleep when an armful of nettles had gone past the "sting" stage and startd itching instead. To be honest I'd have prefer them to still be stinging me.

In other news, my MSN appears to have a virus. Anyone who receives a strange message off me should ignore it. Apologies to the few who already seem to have received something.

You got a message yourself which directed you to a link that wanted your password to log in?

Then change your msn password, that's what I did.

Heh... Something similar happened to me on my Yahoo account.

I had HALO set up to email me whenever something was posted on our wiki. I didn't check my Yahoo in ages.

Then I checked it.

Just over 1000 unread messages, nearly all of them "XXX Has posted a reply on HALO Emergency Thread."

Wow 1000 e-mails, that's...damn. I've only got like 300 e-mails as it is and I've had this account two years and not deleted any e-mails.

I'm sigging that song now. Just for the theme naturally, but it looks scarily good considering it's dubbed and from that studio.

But who cares about that right now? I've been at the festival since eleven and it's one of the best one I've ever seen. I saw two of the three parades and one of them had Chinese drums and a Chinese dragon in one secrtion.
The other parade had Indian dancers and all the local school were in all three parades and they did so well making their withy floats.
Plus the music was fantastic, there were belldancers in the secondary main street, Latin music in the 'mall', tango dancers (and free lessons) going on till five in one of the gardens and the Mock Mayor dropped his cabbage staff.
And we have another fair.
Not going to it though.

Also: I got both parts of ASoIaF in one book for only £2.29! My day is wonderful.

Let's see... Emails in the past, oh I dunno, say month... Well, let's see shall we?

...Oh well would you look at that? It's none. Who would've thought?

...:smallsigh:

I don't even get spam.

I've had my email for about a year; I have less than 20 emails. Most, if not all, of which are newsletters which I had to receive in order to install programs.

Psh. Seen the Chinese parade stuff a dozen times while in Singapore, seen Indian dancers same place, seen belly dancers out in the desert here, in a traditional village in the dunes.

1-up.

Hooray for email accounts that block all messages except the ones that you allow. No spam, no porn, no.... Nasty advertisements... Yeah.

I DO have one to sign up on forums and other stuff, but I never use it, and I check it rarely. Yeah, that one is filled with "_____ Has posted on ______ in the haloitp wikispace".
