From Aspen Comics' Vince Hernandez

Hello all,

Unfortunately it's with great sadness that I must inform everyone that Michael Turner tragically passed away last night, June 27th at approximately 10:42 pm in Santa Monica, Ca. Turner had been dealing with recent health complications arisen in the past few weeks. More details concerning Turner's passing, and services, will be given shortly.

Turner has done quite a lot in his short life. From being an artist on Witchblade to creating his own comic Fathom, and starting his own company Aspen. He's also done many many covers for Marvel and DC, and has had action figures based on his art with a line for Superman/Batman in the Supergirl story, and the Identity Crisis toys. Michael will be missed greatly. He was 37.

He died Friday in a hospital in Southern California after a long fight with Cancer. :frown:

Michael Turner was a very prolific artist, but not quite one of the "headliners" in the industry. As such, you may not know him per se, but might recognize his work.

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Turner's style. But there's no question he was a prolific and enthusiastic artist and by all accounts a very personable attendee of cons and signings. Even when he was very sick he'd show up to do sketches, signings and talk to fans. He was still young, 37, and with time who knows how his art would have evolved?

Wasn't he interviewed by Wizard once? I remember him saying he would stay positive and fight the cancer all the way. I'm deeply saddened by the news. Rest in peace, Mr. Turner. I hope you've found peace.

Very saddened by this news. I thoroughly enjoyed his work on covers, though I was not as big a fan of his interior work. He was a fantastic artist and this is a tragic loss.
