I am planning on buying the 4e core books tommorow, and I wanted to know if the Pre-made Adventure is worth the buy with the core. I don't want to know anything about the 4e stuff. Just the Adventure. I am pretty good at creating my own adventures and I'm not sure about running something pre-packaged. I did enjoy running Red Hand of Doom, and the Dungeon Adventure paths Savage Tide and Age of Worms.

Is the Adventure worth getting, or should I just build my own and save a little cash.

There is a short adventure in the back of the DMG.

If you're talking about Shadowfell Keep, don't bother, unless you simply don't want to come up with an actual adventure or campaign. The dungeon is ridiculously long and will keep the party occupied for many, many sessions.

Seriously, do people usually go through this many encounters in a single dungeon? I don't see how anyone could stand it without going as mad as the BBEG at the end.

So, it's a long Duengon, that is actually a plus, because I want plenty of time to learn the system before I go homebrewing and building my own stuff.

I admittedly haven't played KotS, but I'd like to point out that, like Crow mentioned, there's a five room dungeon in the back of the DMG (called Kobold Hall, I'll let you guess the primary enemy). Also, it's much easier to make an adventure in 4e as opposed to 3.5 because of the ease with which you can homebrew, modify monsters, and create encounters. I'd also like to point out that since it's a relatively streamlined and user-friendly, you probably shouldn't need more than a session or two to get the rules down if you played 3.5. (This sheet (http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1793&page=3) will also probably help with the system. Scroll down a few posts and grab Kabump's PDF attachment.)

As to KotS itself, from what I hear, it an alright module; there's various (http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/13/13791.phtml) reviews (http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/13/13808.phtml) about it across the web. Also, Penny Arcade and PVP did a run through of it on WotC's website, the recording of the session is there, if you want to hear parts of the module. Johnn Four of Roleplaying Tips Weekly (http://www.roleplayingtips.com/index.php) noted in a recent issue that the KotS' smudging issue seemed to have gone away; it was only a problem with the first batch. It should also be noted that since KotS is played by so many, its possible your players will have read about it on the internet (particularly the encounter with dragonshields and slingers).

Also, there's more free modules (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dungeon) on WotC's website. (If you need them, blank character sheets and all the pregens from KotS are around the website, too.) Admittedly, you'll have to make an account. As one last piece of semi-helpful advice, there's another adventure coming out this month, Thunderspire Labyrinth (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/217417400), and another in August, Pyramid of Shadows (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/218637400). They're both slightly higher level, though, 4-6 and 7-10, respectively, as opposed to KotS' 1-3.

Alright, thanks a lot guys. I'm going to end up buying it. Mostly because I'm only going to be able to afford 1 of the three core books this paycheck, and next paycheck is going toward moving. So, I won't be able to get the other two till next month. (My husband gets paid every two weeks.) So, I'll just have to wait.

I heard the Shadowfell Keep was playable by itself.
