I've played d20 Modern once before for one session.
Luckily I have glanced through the D20 Modern SRD and it's very close to D&D anyway.

Basically I just need advice on building my Charismatic hero.

He has to start at level 1 and 17 years old.

He can't have a gun yet, but, based on what the GM is saying, he'll want one A.S.A.P. and he'll want to be able to kill Zombies.

Obviously I want my best stat going into Cha, but what's really important for Modern Campaigns.

Basically I'm just looking for advice and tips for D20 Modern playing and, more specifically, building a Charismatic Hero.
he's only Level 1 now, but I want to know where I should go with him.

Well, if you're playing a zombie fighting game Charismatic isn't going to be the most effective class no matter what you do with it, but it would be a good idea to take the Defensive Martial Arts feat (zombies generally don't use a lot of ranged weapons). Athlete would probably be the best profession, to get you Tumble (get away from the zombies) and Archaic Weapons Proficiency, which isn't the best but it's better than Simple. Coordinate would probably be the best talent, to make sure more combat oriented team-mates hit with those attacks and get the zombies down quicker. Thinking for the future, Fast would be a good multiclass, and possibly also Tough if they're the disease-spreading kind of zombies.

This, of course, assumes that zombie-bashing is the main focus of your campaign. If it isn't, most of this advice won't be terribly useful.

Well apparently the direction of the game is going to very up to us (the players) and where we want to take it.

That said, the GM did say that there was going to be zombies and that we'd probably want weapons.

I imagine that zombies wont be the only things we meet though and I don't think it's a pure hack 'n' slash ('n' blast) game.

Basically I was thinking of being a "Diplomancer" if you will, but I'm still open to other option. There's a Fast Hero going for (ninja?) Gunslinger, a Smart Hero, myself, and one other character (not sure what she's going to be yet either).

Oh, the other thing is that my GM said I could be Psionic, but I had to use the D20 Modern rules for being Psionic.

I'm not sure exactly what that means. Could people please enlighten me?
I found the feat Wild Talent in the SRD, but nothing else.

EDIT: Maybe I'll see if my GM will let me play a Psionis Race (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicRaces.htm) and just say he's a human who has these qualities (so therefore might lose some of the qualities of the original race (like Darkvision), but still keep others.

The psionics rules are also in the SRD, I think they should be in the same section as Wild Talent. They're very similar to the 3.0 psionics system, so they use every ability and they don't scale.

For a Diplomancer, take Charm, Fast Talk, and the feats that help with social skills. Multiclass to Dedicated for Empathy, Skill Emphasis and Sense Motive. Personality and Negotiator are both good advanced classes, with Negotiator being more combat focussed. Frightful Presence will do a fair bit for you in combat, especially combined with Renown, with is required for Personality. If you can use the Urban Arcana classes, Glamourist is a slightly psionic class (using psi-like abilities rather than actual powers) and stacks with Charismatic levels for your talents.

I believe the only Modern book my GM own is the core one and I don't own any (I get my systems from reference documents).

I found Power Lists and Descriptions, but not class that actually grants Power Points and Powers known.

Do I just take the Psion Class ala D&D, but can only got o Level 10 and have to use the Power List form the Modern Handbook?

EDIT: I did find the Battle Mind, Telepath, Psionic Agent, Glamourist, and other classes here (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/MSRD:Classes), but I'm not sure if my GM will let me use anything other than the core book.

The Battle Mind and Telepath are in the Core book and the Glamourist is in Urban Arcana. The Psionic Agent does not exist, you must have been hallucinating. The MSRD can be a little confusing, because it doesn't just contain core, it also contains Urban Arcana and d20 Future. If your GM is limiting you to Core only, your options for psionics are the Battle Mind and Telepath.

I assume you, I was not hallucinating. (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/MSRD:Psionic_Agent_%28Class%29)

Anyway, A Charismatic Hero Diplomacer might do well to become a Telepath if my first glances are correct.

I might do that.

That is clearly a cleverly perpetrated hoax. There is no such class as the psionic agent. Nor is there a book called Complete Psionic.

NO matter what get the coordinate talent it'll prove really useful during combat situations. Also, firearms jam take improvised weapon proficiency if it's allowed. I think it's in D20 apocalypse or the core rules not sure which. That and if your fast hero is thinking of being ninja-esque I'd suggest the infiltrator advanced class. well, that's my 2Cp.

There are no jamming rules for d20 Modern guns outside of d20 Apocalypse, and pistol whips/rifle butts are simple weapons anyway, improvised is unnecessary.
As the Fast Hero is apparently going for Gunslinger, Infiltrator would be a poor second choice due to its 1/2 BAB. Soldier would be a better bet for Weapons Specialisation.

Just like the perpetuated hoax that "assure" is spelled with an "R" and not an "M"?
