View Full Version : Does Roy get along better with bald people?

I want it to go on record that I'm not entirely serious, but still it's plausible.

He's best friends with Durkon and he seems to like his Grandfather, yet usually annoyed with the rest of the party, who all have hair more or less, him and Diago would obviously get along well since their both sarcastic...

Think about it, think think about it!

He hasn't interacted with Redcloak. There's no real way to use that point. Combat is not the same as relationships (hopefully).

I suppose if Redcloak were LG or LN instead of LE, Roy would be okay with him.

Hell, Roy and Redcloak are kindred spirits. If they weren't enemies, they'd hit it off fine.

If only they could meet somehow on neutral ground, neither knowing who the other one is, like Sabine and Vaarsuvius (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0385.html) did. It would be fun to watch them try to outdo one another's stories of crazy and incompetent underlings, and gripe about the general stupidity and irrationality of...well, just about everyone else they know. Then finish their drinks, and go back to plotting one another's ultimate downfall.

Xykon is bald, too.

Granted, he doesn't have a scalp, and Roy does - or at least, Roy did, until recently.

Think about it, think think about it!
That's because of the Shoulderpads of Sarcasm, a magical item they both wear. Quite a powerful one, that accidentally brings the side effect "Attract moronic bards and sarcastic chicks".

You know? I thinks these two will never meet again. They share too much. It's like a squirmy ship. Diagoy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PortmanteauCoupleName)?

No, Xykon would talk smack about his own momma and show up the kobold.

I am amazed I have never seen that phrase before, let alone haven't seen it overused to the point of cliche by now.

Don't read if you haven't seen SoD and don't want it spoiled, but
Xykon KILLED his mama. Technically he ordered his zombies to do it, but same principle.

Just to toss in one more data point, Roy's little brother Eric (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0496.html) is pretty nearly bald.

You know, funnily enough, there's only one gaping hole in this (Eugene) and other then that it's pretty solid.

Weather or not it's intentional on Rich's part though, is debatable.:smalltongue:

ah, but the problem si not in Roy, it is in Eugene... he doesn't get on with people in general, not even when they share the bond of baldness....

To be honest, considering the vast amount of bald people seeming to exist in the OOTS world, it seems hard for Roy to NOT get along with some of them. Seriously, I have never seen a comic with so many bald people.

Well yeah, OK, other stick figure comics, but still. The detail on these ones makes it all the more surprising.

I don't really see that many similarities between Roy and Redcloak. Roy tends to solve problems by diving into them without (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0340.html) thinking (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0442.html) while Redcloak is a strategist (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0416.html).
Although I guess they do both have to work with some incompetant people.

Sarcastic, witty, subversions of their race/class, and forever surrounded by incompetent morons.

Both of Roy's examples seem pretty well thought-out to me, even neither of his plans were strategic mastermind material.

No need to search for printed books, anyway (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0078.html). But if we exclude people that had hairs in a previous time, we have to exclude Roy himself! He sported a nice afro when younger!

But Thog, Belkar and every single kobold, gob or hob is bald (or quite), and Roy doesn't seems to like them

The explanation for that is likely that most of them are not bald. Rather that it was not worth the trouble to draw in the hair.

Belkar isn't actually bald. He just has really short hair

Just a sidenote, but for kobolds I'm not sure bald is the best term. The connotation of the word bald tends to imply that something is missing, that there should be something there (re: in the cases of scalps, hair). Kobolds don't seem to have hair at all and they shouldn't. So bald isn't really appropriate.

Belkar has stubbly hair. Not sure why hobgoblins and goblins don't have hair. Maybe in OOTSverse they're like kobolds in that respect.

Since Therkla has hair, Thog is either bald, he shaves his head every day, or half-orcs have some weird genetic property that results in only the women having hair.

Draz74
2008-07-09, 01:26 PM
The latter actually seems rather likely to me, considering that Goblins have the same strange genetic property in the OOTSverse (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0093.html).

As do full orcs (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0551.html) ... although there is the one orc who has a sort of fuzz around the lower part of his head, almost suggesting that male orcs have hair but go bald at a very young age (and this guy just went bald slower than most) ...

Edit: Looking again, it seems a few of the male orcs actually have hair. The "go bald at a very young age" theory still works, though.

The psionic goblin (if it's a goblin) has hair too. The whole hair thing is pretty weird when it comes to goblins and orcs. :)
