Nobody knows what gender V is. Everyone has a theory, but no one knows for sure and some believe we'll never find out.

@posters after me: Please don't flame. Please don't flame. Please don't flame.

This question crops up fairly frequently; the short answer is we aren't supposed to know as it's part of the joke. I think Rich wrote in one of his books that V was initially supposed to be male, but when it appeared that V's gender was ambigious to readers in the forum he decided to run with that for comedic purposes. I doubt it will ever get resolved.

There's another topic on the first page at the moment (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84490) that's discussing this in more detail.

Hermaphrodite.

Actually, from the FAQ (http://www.giantitp.com/FAQ.html#faq10):

Q: Is Vaarsuvius male or female?

A: I will never reveal the truth! Bwahaha! Keep in mind that while certain other characters might refer to V as being male or female, that simply reveals their perception.not the actual reality of the situation.

nobody knows.... Rich had intended for V to have a definite (sp?) gender, but than someone asked that question, and Rich decided to make it into a joke... now even the characters in the comic don't know... some call him he. some she...
ill always think of him as a male... but that's just me.... althought this is also possible:

There are obviously 2 Varssuvius's, one male and one female, both of which are identical and switch out between panels using elven ninja skills.

Why don't we sticky this?

It's sticked (stuck? dam, I don't know) in "Important/Reoccuring/FAQ Threads or Notices" but it seems that postscript "Vaarsuvius gender theories included" is needed.

V's gender is "elf".

They aren't human. This leaves a lot of room for "gender" to mean something completely different.

Nowadays, it's just an ongoing tag. Don't try and answer it because the joke requires that whatever theory you have to prove one, there's going to be shown a theory that shows another.

threads pertaining the gender of V. are welcome and funny, albeit a bit repetitive, they are there for the fun of speculation and putting in wild hipotesis, but it should be aknowledged that the whole subject is a running gag in the comic and therefore will probably never find a definite answer.

I would like to revise that as 'There's always another thread discussing this.'

It's all good though, because the more threads there are the more likely Giant will go crazy and just reveal it in one of the comics so the threads stop. So by all means, carry on.

Personally, I think V is male. His body design is the same as others robed guys.

Personally, I think V's got the D chromosome. Since this fits none of the 27 variants in the human species alone of "gender", this constitutes some difficulty in deciding from just one.

PS: I believe there's a Z chromosome in some African tribe somewhere. I can't remember where I read it. But if Men are XY and Women XX, then what's a ZX?

It happens in some birds, insects and fishes, nothing about human cases. At least is what Wikipedia says here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_chromosome).
