At one point when I tried to look at the site yesterday, a popup window appeared asking for my name and password, and stating a message about the forums having some sort of issue. When I filled in my name and password, an identical popup window appeared.

Was this something planned, or is this a possible hack?

Did the popup by any chance say "Database backup in progress, please try again in 30 minutes"?


That popup will appear every time the forum undergoes a backup, which is currently 3am server time (currently CDT - U.S. Central Daylight Time), but was several times last night for testing. Only I (and in an emergency, Rich et. al.) know the password to bypass that screen.

This will reduce problems during a backup, prevent pages taking 10 minutes to load (as the tables need to be locked) and also reduce backup time (as the database isn't getting constantly accessed).
