The setup is this:

The PCs have thrawted the main villain's plans, they've made the world a better place, etc...

Except for one thing; said main villain is still alive, and while he dosen't want to take over the world anymore-the PCs accomplished what he set out on doing by making the world a better place-he still has a score to settle with the PCs...victors win the right to live.

The party isn't out of the woods yet...They are Still In The Dark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_S43AP1tgc&feature=related).

You could say that they and the villain Meet Again (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoiNVcaCMIQ).

Sorry, can't come up with some cute punny sentence to introduce this. But I rather like using Dark Saint (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv6_bDfnHGc) from Lost Odyssey as Boss music.

"Duck and Run", by 3 Doors Down

This world can turn me down, but I won't turn away
And I won't Duck and Run, 'cause I'm not built that way
When everything is gone, there's nothing there to fear
This world cannot bring me down, no, 'cause I am already here!

Still in the Dark was the theme song for an entire monster-hunting campaign ... ah Citadel, with separate rules for dueling, dating and special effects :smallcool:

Sentenced: Vengeance is Mine, perhaps? Very speedy, though.

As I always say, you can't go wrong with FFVII music. Since this is the final boss, I'd say One Winged Angel (The final Sephiroth theme).

The music from the final boss of Mass Effect is suitably epic. As a bonus, you can play the music from the final scene of the same game after they win, because it's epic too.

The following are awesome music from the game Shadow Hearts 2. The tracks are kind of short, but most of them are extremely epic:
"Deep in Coma"
"Contickin Contickin"
"Astaroth" (this is more slow)
"Saintly Demon Fountain I and II"

Other random intense songs that I've listened to on my iPod during boss fights are as follows:
The opening blitzball song from FFX
"When Worlds Collide" by Powerman 5000
"Supernova" by Powerman 5000
"Black Water" from FF Advent Children
"Dragula" Rob Zombie
"Faint" Linkin Park (although this one doesn't really apply)

For the best music, however, I'd recommend one more tailored to the theme, setting, or character of the villain. For example, "Ramalama" (Roisin Murphey) is a must-have against a voodoo queen, "Space Intruders" (Bjork) is not intense at all, but would make an excellent addition against an alien-type boss, and "Aerials" (System of a Down) would put an ironic tone to a flying combat or angel-apocalypse setting.

Flight of the Valkyries is always good. For just about anything.

As I always do when threads like this pop up, I must recommend the groups Nox Arcana and E Nomine. Pretty much everything they do is good music to roleplay by.

Symphonic metal is great too... I prefer groups with female lead singers like Nightwish or Epica. Stratovarius has some good stuff, too, if you'd rather have male vocals.

Oh, and actual classical music can be nice, too. For a boss fight, preferably something that builds to a climactic finale like In the Hall of the Mountain King or the 1812 Overture. I would recommend Ride of the Valkyries, but it would probably remind your players too much of Apocalypse Now.

Run of the mill bosses fit well with Metroid songs, especially in horror campaigns. BBEGs deserve better though.

I will actually amend my statement to "Anything by Wagner" when I think about it again...

Here's a bunch, you're gonna need more than one, so here ya go

Zerstoren - Rammstein wins. ISCH MUSS ZERSTOREN (I must destroy)
Mein Hertz Brennt - Rammstein
Blind Eye Halo - Soilwork
Sworn to a Great Divide - Soilwork
Combustion - Meshuggah
Sovereign - Soilwork
Through the Fire and Flames - DragonForce
Superbeast - Rob Zombie
Breaking Me Down - SoIL
Raining Blood - Slayer
Master of Puppets - Metallica
Am I Evil? Metallica

Here are a few instrumentals that I think'd work out rather nicely. For basically anything

Hall of the Mountain King - Apocalyptica is amazingly epic, recognizable, and has a great intro for while they're rolling initiative and such...
Clubbed to Death - Rob D. is great, from the Matrix, how can you lose?
Enter Sandman - Apocalyptica
Entering the Angel Diabolique - Soilwork

Something rather mournful at the start of it I'd say that eventually devolves into screaming metal.

Apocalyptica wins in my book, just because it's metal cello music.

O fortuna is good, don't forget Dethklok's Thunderhorse and Face fisted. For large groups of enemies, try the song ten thousand fists in the air by disturbed- it's higher pitch actually lends a bit of mania. Lets see... I'll also suggest Requiem for a dream if it's something truly frightening, or pompeii from posthumus. Oo! Oo! Or the song from LOTR, you know, Bababaaaa, ba-ba-bum!

When I run games based on previously created universes from movies and television shows, I usually just use something from the shows.

When we did a Gurren Lagann game, we had the whole "Ro ro fight da powah" song on full blast as the finishing move hit the BBEG.

Good gaming music will probably not have any lyrics, and will not be too distracting from the epicness of the game itself. One of my favorite symphonic metal bands, Therion, has such a song:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4wIn5l4c-_k

As soon as I heard it, the first thing that went through my head was "final boss music"

Even if you don't use it for your final boss music, I know I will

Oh yeah, that reminds me of when someone wanted music for a master of time and space.

Someone else linked them here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nmGnn7GRrBg&feature=related

No Apocalyptica wins because it's GOOD cello metal music.

If I wanted to throw people off, or I was playing a creepy game, I'd use mr sandman, there's no way they would see that coming heh

Perhaps the final boss could tell them the story of the Poet and the Pendulum (instrumental). (http://youtube.com/watch?v=chXDm9ICVkA)

X Vs. Zero is good for a fast paced battle, if a bit short.

Anything by apocolyptica is fantastic. Paticularly the regular, no lyrics version of path.

Nightwish has a bunch of good songs, though too many lyrics for my tastes.

I recommend this (http://www.freemidi.org/download.php?id=679&id_cmp=4547&One%20Step%20Closer&Linkin%20Park) song. It's a MIDI version of Linkin Park's song One Step Closer. When I first heard it, I thought that it would be perfect for a fight with some kind of demon god, or evil wizard. :smallcool:

I prefer the metal version from Advent Children. However. Every other high school play in my school has used this song. -_- Despite being awesome and iconic and unique, it grew old reeeeeally quickly.
