It recently came to my attention that Icewind Dale II was the perfect game to play with OOTS characters: it allows the creation of 6 characters and custom portraits.
So i started a new adventure creating our six heroes:
I was pleased to find that giving a "role" to each character is way simpler when you know them in every detail. Giving the dead cat to Belkar, the bags of holding to Haley and the two-handed swords to Roy is automatic.

I should really thank the guys in this thread:

that eased the character creation and development.

Quite honestly, I'd rather play in Baldur's Gate II. Sure it's 2nd edition and not 3rd, but who cares? It's a fun game.

(Only problems are you miss out on Minsc and Jan...)

Hehe, I've started just the same a month or so ago ^^ Okay, my OOTS is not entirely in character (e.g. Elan went for sorcerer after lvl11) but it did play quite well... except the last fight... Gotta try it again sometime. Also a Chaotic Evil Belkar is great when attacked by Unholy Blight, hehe.

One could get a decent Baldur's Gate party by basing it on OOTS characters:

Roy--Player Character.
Durkon--Yeslick. Only dwarf cleric, compatible alignment
Haley--Imoen. Female thief, right personality, compatible alignment, pink hair is closest to red.
Vaarsuvius--Xan. Only elven mage.
Elan--Garrick. Only good bard. Not really a cloudcuckoolander, just naive.
Belkar--Montaron, definitely. Evil halfling, ok, so he's a fighter/thief. There are mods that can fix that. You'll have to ditch Xzar in a building somewhere.

Now we just need a way to get ol' Team Evil in there somehow. Then, in a nutshell, we have the most awesome game in existence, my friends.

Or you could just create a multi-player game. Also, Haley is chaotic good, Imoen is neutral good.

My oots part in baldur's gate 2 were as follows:
Roy = Human Fighter
Haley = Human Thief
Durkon = Drawf Cleric
Elan = Neutral Good (There was no option for chaotic good) Bard
V = Elven Mage
Belkar = Chaotic Evil Halfling Barbarian. Halfling's can not be Rangers in bg2 and rangers can not be evil so I had to settle for barbarian.

I might go back and replay Icewind Dale II just to do this!

BG II wouldn't do it for me, sorry. There's just too many ways 3rd edition rules that are needed to get the OotS down to the details. Belkar is a Ranger/Barbarian, not just a Ranger or a Barbarian, and must have the Survival skill available specifically so I can put zero points into it. (Was Survival called "Wilderness Lore" in IW2? I forget.) Haley must use Sneak Attack (a far more versatile ability than Backstab) and have the party's highest Search check.

In addition, I might replay NWN as Miko. I've played it once so far as a Lv 15/5 Chaotic Neutral/Chaotic Evil Ranger/Rogue, whose personality could be best described as an amalgam of Haley and Belkar. So why not an uptight do-gooder for a change? Or, failing that, Thog.

Once I get my laptop upgrade, I'll probably get NWN2 and try it out.

I'm planning on playing through Icewind Dale II like this later in the year. I never managed to make it through the second Icewind Dale. I did a similar thing for the original Icewind Dale except with random other game characters.

Ah, IWD2. One of the best games, ever. Somehow it appeals to me to create a party of six of my own rather than to have premade companions like in BG series. Also, third edition works better than second edition for this, imho. Additionally, IWD2 has a better interface than the BG series. In terms of gameplay and stuff, BG series only wins with its superior selection of spells, excluding the story element of course. :smallsigh:

I did this too a while ago. Pretty fun. Funny thing is, Belkar (I gave him short swords instead of Daggers) was eventually the damage MACHINE! He was out-damaging everyone, even Haley on a sneak attack, or Roy with full Power attack.

Surely the next real challenge is playing one of these games as the Linear Guild??

Obviously:-

:nale: Male Human Fighter/Thief/Wizard LE
:thog: Male Half Orc Barbarian CE
:sabine: Female umm, Succubus, Erinyes umm LE or CE - yep, getting a bit harder now
hilgya: Female Dwarven Cleric LE (easier now)
Yikyik: Male Kobold thingie (OK I've lost the plot again)
Zzdrti: Male Drow Elf Wizard or Sorcerer (Can't remember which one)
Pompey: Male Half Elf Sorcerer
Leeky: Male Gnome Druid NE
Yokyok: Other Male Kobold

OK - the real challenge is coming up with vaguely playable versions of the above.

Substitute halfling for kobold? Thief/sorcerer for sabine - race is impossible??

Actually, I believe Hilgya was Chaotic Neutral. She repeatedly showed that the only thing she cared about was freedom. That's kinda the hallmark of CN.

You'd have to go with tiefling for Sabine, I think.

:nale: Male Human Fighter/Thief/Wizard LE

Sorcerer, not wizard.

:thog: Male Half Orc Barbarian CE

With exactly two fighter levels at some point.

hilgya: Female Dwarven Cleric LE (easier now)

Hilgya might be CE or CN, but is definitely not Lawful.

Yikyik: Male Kobold thingie (OK I've lost the plot again)

Ranger.

Zzdrti: Male Drow Elf Wizard or Sorcerer (Can't remember which one)

Wizard.

Pompey: Male Half Elf Sorcerer

:smallconfused: Wizard...Conjuration specialist.

Yokyok: Other Male Kobold

Not a paladin, simply because joining the Linear Guild even briefly would make him Fall if he was. Probably a ranger as well.

CN or CE. I was never quite sure which side of that line she was on. She DID seem awfully nonchalant about poisoning her husband, after all. All in all, hard to gauge, but yes, definitely Chaotic non-Good.

Guessing that her patron Loki was CE - but of course she can take a half step alignment difference from that (i.e. CE, CN or NE).

Would tend to guess that she's CE just to be completely diametrically opposed to Durkon's LG

Well, there is definatly 'wiggle room' conserning her alignment, but I tend to think of her as CN. She was nice to Durkon, and didn't seem too evil to me, she mearly hated her arranged relationship. If anything, she was uncaring or ambivilant about the good/evil roles, which kinda lends itself to CN.

Thog is, apparantly, too stupid to know the difference between good and evil, and would also be CN, in my opinion.
