The setup:

The PCs-who, it should be mentioned, I turned into yokai (Japanese demons) at the beginning of the game-have infiltrated the BBEG's base. They've thrawted the attempts of his Quirky Miniboss Squad (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/QuirkyMinibossSquad) to stop them. They've mastered their powers. And they are ready to stop the BBEG from completing the ritual that will complete his Destiny Quest become a god and remake the world in the his version of a utopia...

Except by the time they reach him, he's already halfway done, and has transended his mortal form to become an angelic being with radiant-based attacks. As the PCs roll intiative against the misguided demigod, a suitably epic tune (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A8yf0UVJDk) begins to play...

EDIT: And if I hear the phrase "One Winged Angel" in the suggestions, I will hunt you down.

We didn't start the fire?

I have a nice one from Escaflowne called Curse of Dance that works with EVERY major boss.

Curse of dance... I can just imagine a bunch of adventurers bursting into dance and screaming in horror and torment as the song goes on.

Well, there's always inappropriate religious music. I'm a fan of Beethoven's Symphony #9 Movement 4, An Ode to Joy for when humanity is screwed.

"Air Fight" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q0F3EfO1p8) from Zone of the Enders 2 also fits in my mind, even though it has nothing particularly to do with the theme. Possibly because it's a redux of the title theme, which has a lot of light and stars imagery in it as I recall.

The music during the duel with Baelheit near the end of Baten Kaitos Origins also works, and is actually thematically appropriate ("I AM THE LIGHT! DISPELLER OF DARKNESS!"). I can't find a link to it, though.

Oh, speaking of appropriate video game themes, how about the boss battle music for Ramirezelos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMHQkJ6kc8I) from Skies of Arcadia?

Incidentally, the people who said the Gamecube didn't have any good RPGs are full of crap.

Oh, wait. Duh. Lux Aeterna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKLpJtvzlEI). Done.

Oh, I know about that spell. Now I have the actual SONG to go with it! I can play it on my ininja!

EDIT: An, you know, the ENTIRE Tales Of Symphonia soundtrack for everything else. That game's music didn't get too old during the over 9000 hours it took to beat it, it should keep well for D&D as well.

My opinion on everyone's music choice here, and whether it would fit the situation.

System Of A Down -- Chop Suey
I usually play classical, or baroque, and rarely use vocals, but in this, it works.
The lyrics fit the situations
'When angels deserve to die' All in all, my second choice

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded By The Light
Not villain-y enough, iIMHO, last choice of all of them.

Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children - Curse of Dance
I love this song as villain music, it's so chanty, it works in any evil guy scenario. This would be my first choice.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga - Brahman
This one works ok as well. 3rd choice.

If you want to go for classical music, the Dies Irae or the Confutatis from the Mozart Requiem would fit very well. If you want something less intense, the Lacrymosa or Lux Aeterna from the same piece would also work, the last one being especially thematically appropriate.

Youtube Examples:
Dies Irae (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_YSEbAWA0Y)
Confutatis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXXHYX7zk1c)
Lacrymosa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqPz5B-TA1w&feature=related)

One winged angel. :P

Seriously though, light based aside, his intentions make this harder

Would Gimme the Prize (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB8De8DsqiQ) be a good choice or a bad choice?

Incidentally, the people who said the Gamecube didn't have any good RPGs are full of crap. Done.

Well, aside from Skies, which was a port from Dreamcast, Gamecube had a pretty weak lineup. I mean, Crystal Chronicles was meh, and Evolution was okay at best.

Skies frickin' rocked though. Law of Averages I suppose.

On topic: I'd say Bond has some pretty good snappy actiony songs. I'd say flip through one of their albums and see if anything fits.
I'm personally partial to Duel (http://youtube.com/watch?v=-ZY0xk0VeDs).

I'm gonna quasi-hijack this thread for a sec, but I have a similar question.
Does anyone know if there is an instrumental-only version of "Room of Angel" (made for Silent Hill 4). I like running horror campaigns, but lyrics would be distracting I think.
Thanks, sorry to the OP.

Misguided villain? Light? Godhood? Sounds like Death Note to me!

Anyway, my suggestion: Dancing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ios6zLDR8AI) Mad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MRGt_PvyT8). A very long, two-part track, extremely monumental and just reeking of godhood. Exactly what you need.

EDIT: Part 4 alone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONdHEDeWifs) might probably work best.

This might sound a little odd, but my gut instinct is... Pink Floyd.

Perhaps it is not ominous enough, but I think E Nomine's "Himmel order Hölle", (Heaven or Hell in English) would also fit very well, http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bc_Z2XnJCMQ.

I mean, Crystal Chronicles was meh, and Evolution was okay at best. Both Baten Kaitos (the prequel was better), Paper Mario 2...okay, those and Skies were the ones I played. What the GC really lacked was Final Fantasy clones, a fact of which I heartily approve.

Look into the Death Note soundtrack (and Death Note, for that matter!). It's great for that kind of thing.

I forget the name of the song, but this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw-0cZyrSBk&feature=related) from FFX seems like it would fit fighting an "angelic" evil boss. Epic, and while it sounds pretty Holy at times there's an undercurrent of violence, desperation, or evil there.

At least, IMO. :smallconfused:

I was thinking Danse Macabre by Saint Seans (though that's a bit better for a necromantic villain, thematically), or perhaps Sanctus or Hymn Before Action from Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.

Danse Macabre (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LupmmElMoI&feature=related) - It gets quite epic after 1:10
Sanctus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8VlZOg9iv4&feature=related) - Perhaps the best suited, literally, as the first phrase means 'holy master', and gets better from there.
Hymn Before Action (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2eXoMBu6CY) - Really awesome piece, though it helps to be able to hear the lyrics, though for some reason the only recording I could find on YouTube was as a part of a 9/11 tribute. Good recording, though.
