View Full Version : Propose a homebrew spell

Mercenary Pen
2008-07-28, 06:41 PM
basically, propose a homebrew spell that might be researched by one of the strip's main spellcasters (Vaarsuvius, Xykon or Redcloak)- for general amusement of yourself and others.

Disclaimer: Rich Burlew is not likely to read this, and almost certainly won't use any of these ideas.

Okay, my own suggestion for Redcloak as an epic spell- mass polymorph into harmless bacteria.

Redcloak can't cast Epic spells. So far he has not even cast 9th level spells.

Now a spell that might have been researched...

V- Obscure sex. Permanment, no save. 5th level. Personal
The viewer is entirely unable to determine the sex of the caster. Depending on circumstances, the viewer might assume a guess was correct, or be aware of the uncertainity, but the caster's true sex is not determinable by any means short of a higher level spell.

Shorten Sidequest (7 level)
It allows to skip a sidequest, handing to the caster the object/information/anything else that that sidequest was supposed to provide.

Redcloak can't cast epic spells YET. Bear in mind that the strip's likely to keep going for at least another 300 issues (by my guess), during which time it's quite possible for Redcloak to advance a few levels- and it's exactly the sort of uber-spell he'd develop.

But- to provide Redcloak with a spell of lower level- Distract Undead: for those situations where he needs to keep Xykon occupied or have Xykon look the other way.

@Hamsterofthegod- not that sort of homebrew

@Holywhippet- Belkar needs a hit of Owl's Wisdom before he can even cast regular spells. He ain't gonna be researching anything in this life.

Banjo's Divine Wrath:
1 banjo per caster level rain down from the sky. Each banjo deals 1d8 points of damage. Each banjo deals banjo damage for the purposes of over coming damage reduction. The caster chooses where each banjo falls. They can all go towards one target, or you choose to hit more than one enemy with banjos. If you choose multiple enemies, you must choose which enemies get hit by how many banjos.
material components: a puppet of a god holding a banjo

Vaarsuvius' Ultimate Arcane Power (Evocation)
Wizard 9
The caster must hit with a ranged touch attack. Target is distengrated, scorched, and penetrated in areas that I'd rather not mention. Deals 12d6 damage (fortitude save for 3d6, SR applies), plus 12d6 fire damage (reflex half, SR applies), plus 12d6 piercing damage (no SR). Half of the piercing damage stems from emotional trauma and may be negated with a will save (this is a fear effect). The other half of the damage does not allow a save. If the target's hit points are reduced below 0 by this spell, it becomes a pile of smoldering ash.

Material Component: A doily.

"Hand. Me. The doily."

For Xykon definetly "Locate Object" (i don't know, if such a spell allready exists in D&D) - no more problems with keys and such.

Elan- Inspire Suicidal tendencies.
Doesn't he have that as a feat allready? The way he botched inspirational speech before the siege would be a hint.

No fancy magic needed here. :smallwink:

Vaarsuvius's Unnecessary Overkill
Evocation (Acid, Fire, Force)
Level: Wizard 7
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Components: V, S
Range: Close (25-ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Area: 30-ft. radius spread
Duration: 4 rounds
Saving Throw: See text
Spell Resistance: See text

This unnecessarily powerful spell creates a zone of utter destuction, humiliating and decimating all foes caught within it. The spell's effects progress over four rounds, as below. Vaarsuvius's unecessary overkill cannot be extended, persisted, or otherwise have its duration increased.

1st round: Tentacles of force fill the area, grappling all creatures within it as the black tentacles spell. A creature grappled by tentacles take 4d6 force damage, and a subsequent 1d6 force damage each round. Spell resistance does not apply against the tentacles.

2nd round: The tentacles catch on fire, dealing 1d6 fire damage/2 levels, maxium 10d6, to all creatures in the spell's area, even those that are not grappled. A Reflex save halves the damage, and spell resistance applies.

3rd round: Acid rains down onto the zone, dealing 1d6 acid damage/2 levels, maximum 10d6, to all creatures in the spell's area, even those that are not grappled. A Reflex save halves the damage, but spell resistance does not apply.

4th round: The tentacles dissipate, and a small card, marked with an explosive rune, appears in the center of the spell's area.

That doesn't change it being swingy... massive difference between 20d100=20 and 20d100=2000...
