Well, there's a few things involved in getting eggs to hatch.

Steal eggs
Post eggs in your signature on a website
Wait for people to load the page you have posted on (resulting in views and unique views)
Wait for people to click on your egg link (resulting in views and clicks)
Wait for approximately 3.5 days (with enough views/unique views/clicks)
Eggs hatch
Start over with step three for hatchlings to make them grow up


Then get more eggs. :smallbiggrin:

Although getting views help hatch your egg, getting too many in a short amount of time will cause your egg/hatchling to get sick.

If that happens just hide it for a while, and everything will be fine. :smallbiggrin:

Yeah, I've got all but the Christmas Dragon, I think, and female versions of many of them. I'm not certain I want to go to the trouble of getting, hatching, and waiting to see if htey are male/female...

When you view a scroll, it adds views/unique views (only the first view per IP)to each dragon that still needs them ( I think). You still need to click on them to accrue clicks.

Yes, they do, but it's two stages rather than the eggs' five. They grow wings just before they mature, which is also when you can tell their gender.

There are no crossbreeds. When you breed two dragons you get a variety of eggs of either type, but no mixes.

Although, this is an update that will eventually be put into place:

Alternates: No longer will it be guaranteed that the eggs will follow linear growth patterns. Soon it will be possible for eggs to develop into different dragons for any number of reasons. Random chance, time of day, even based on which other dragons you have, the possibilities for concept creators are about to open up. It also adds a new element for collectors, who will now be challenged to collect all of the new possibilities.

Yes, some of the things are already in place: like being able to sort your scroll, and the parentage of bred dragons. Other things will be forthcoming.

Hopefully we'll get some new sprites soon as well, though I haven't seen anything about new ones coming up yet.

I think what they're working on at the moment is switching out some of the current sprites that people were unhappy with (like hte mint hatchling). Maybe once those are done some new dragons will appear again...

As for new sprites, the mint dragon hatchling has a new sprite...I don't like it.

The skywing was just recently added a few weeks ago when the Cave finally came back online after a long hiatus. There's supposed to be a number of other changes, but I really don't keep track of the site much.

Bandwidth
The current hosting plan does not have enough bandwidth to last out the month ([i]and no, the current downtime was not caused by running out). If the site keeps using bandwidth at this rate, I'll have to pay twice as much in overages as I pay for the hosting plan itself.

Servers
Obviously, if the site is running out of bandwidth, I'm going to need to do something. I looked into adding a second VPS, but all of the data that would go between the two servers to keep themselves synchronized would use up a ton of bandwidth on its own. In addition, the current host is proving to be less reliable than I'd like, with the seemingly frequent outages and rather slow response times whenever I contact them. So, I plan to move the site to a dedicated server hosted by a different company. This should solve the bandwidth issue, as well as give the server many more resources to work with, improving site performance.

Unreleased Features
Egg freezing has been ready since the update, but I haven't enabled it. Incubators are basically ready, I'm just finalizing the interface. I've been holding off on releasing both features (as well as releasing any new dragons) until the server situation is solved.

The Current Downtime
The server appears to be completely down, for reasons unknown, and the control panel that my host provides that would allow me to reboot the server is down as well. I contacted my host hours ago and have received no response. They apparently feel that responding to their clients in a timely fashion isn't all that important.

All three. But you need to be careful not to get too many too soon.

If you see them getting a Soft Shell, then hide them for a day. That should solve it.

Growing up wise, it takes at least 3.5 days for it to hatch into a hatchling.

And also time. No matter how hard you try or how much you want it, your egg will never hatch on the first day. Nor will your hatchling grow up.

@V, a hundred is a relatively small number. I have a little black that never went anywhere but this thread, and he has 500 views and is doing fine. (look at my scroll if you'd like to see for yourself) I only ever put my drags in this thread and my sig, and I haven't had a death yet.

Most of my dragons don't hatch until they have over a thousand views. But if you have it in your sig, people will click it when they see your posts.

views don't count if the same person looks at the image of the dragons, unique views do. It's definitely normal to have more Unique Views than clicks. don't worry, and check the Faq. :smallwink:

It's not against the rules either, I just put them in my signatures.

But I'm checking once or twice an hour to ensure they don't get too many clicks and get soft shell. I would hate to have my work ruined.

It still has a good number of days to go. Just post a bit in the SMBG section and you'll get views in no time.

Just be careful, because your egg can turn soft fast if you aren't watching it. I managed to get more than 1k views in one night after posting a few times in SMBG, so that should tell you how easy it is to get TONS of views. Said eggs of course were soft.

But they're adults now. They got all the views they needed in the egg and early hatchling stages, heh.

Just a question, what's SMBG?

My dragons have almost 200 views each, and they aren't even cracked, though I've seen an egg that cracked at only 70something views. Does it all depend on the egg, or does the egg have to be a few days old to hatch? Cause I only got all mine yesterday.

The SMBGS are the silly message board games here in the boards. just go to the main forum page, you'll find them.

My spiel:
The eggs hatch (and hatchlings mature) not on number of views, but on a delicate ratio of views/clicks/time. If it's only been two or three days, then there's no way your egg will hatch. if it's almost running out of time (within a day) you need to adjust your ratio somehow. post on a different section of board, or go and click on all the eggs you can find. (if you're doing it, someone else might be doing it for you.)

I post here and in a few werewolf games, and my dragons generally mature at about a thousand views.

Hmm, cause all four of my eggs have 600-700 views, about 200 unique views, and the one with the highest clicks has fifteen I think. They're all only a day old, so is that why no cracks are appearing on the eggs?

yes, emotionless. that's very probably why. be patient, give them time, they'll hatch.

you might want to hide or take them out of your sig for a bit. if they're getting that many views so fast, you'll have trouble keeping the ratio up later.
my suggestion: take them out of your sig for a day or so, (don't hide them)and let them accrue clicks from the dragcave thread here. if they get sick, you can put them back, and if they don't you're that much better off.

Edit: I just checked mine, they have about the same numbers. huh. that's weird...... it must be me posting more in other threads.

@^ & ^^, I clicked on all of your eggs and hatchlings. They have a healthy number of clicks, and they might just hatch at the last second. if nothing else, there is a technique called forcing, and I've never heard that it actually works, but...

I got a new egg. a lot of those new guardians were released, but all of them were whisked out from under my mouse. Two hourly releases I sat through, and one little sky was all I got.

I managed to breed my silver with my pink after months of trying and got two pink eggs. I guess that's progress, but another silver would be nice.

I personally suggest using the SMBG board here. I managed to acquire 1k views on one of my eggs in one night. They grew up just fine (even though they got soft shell several times XD).
