View Full Version : Good Music For An Evil Creator Of The Universe?

As you all know, I have a passion for creating villians that are either (A), anti-heros that subvert the "I'm evil, and proud of it" image of fantasy villians, or (B), a truly evil despot in a traditionally "good" role (such as the cleric of Pelor whose fanatical enforcement of his god's commandments makes him eviler than most other villains who embrace their "bad boy" image).

Recently I decided to take (B) to it's natural conclusion and feature a creator of the universe who has the general qualities you wouldn't want in a creator of the universe, and since he needs a battle theme....

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JBn6-ID7-E) it is!

Why did I immediately thought of Xenogears myself? Instead of them I'll suggest some SRW:

I like the Xenogears theme. Just make sure the players aren't long time RPG players or they might recognise the music. I know alot of mine would know right away where the theme was from.

At work and can't access the YouTube links, but "Night on Bald Mountain" could work quite well.

You know, I thought of another example for myself.

Honestly, you can't do better if your music actually comes from a boss fight with God. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhdgqC3Wrig&feature=related)

The opening segment of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. Something very imposing and classical.

I was going to suggest something from Shin Megami Tensei; I know they like to do that kind of thing.

Yeah, that's what I was going to suggest:

Though your players may find this particular piece overused. But something classical that would sound religious to modern ears is definitely how I would go.

Depending on style, some of The Doors will work also, just keep away from the happy stuff.

In my oppinion your looking for dark, heavy, building music. Just keep in mind you don't annoy the hell out of your players.

Mahler's Symphony #8 Movement 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfp5UPCFsNM) (this video is the last third of the movement, since that's the one with the appropriate lyrics).

Generally, the more powerful the bad guy, the more upbeat I want the music. And this one is about the creator of the universe.
