I was reading the TvTropes page on Precursor (link (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Precursors)) and found this sentence:

In the Forgotten Realms, a saurian race ruled the world in the days when the world was warm. They are not entirely gone, though...

I don't know a whole lot about FR and my interest in it is limited, but I love anything along the lines of lost civilisations. Can anyone give me some references for this Saurian race? Books, editions, general info, etc?

There were 4 races other than humans that ruled the world before the modern Realms, but the only one on the top of my head is the Sarrukh.

Edit: There was another civilization of Humans, but this was after the 4 other races lost power. Netheril was a powerful empire (kinda like Rome) and when it fell, took a lot of knowledge with it. The only remnants of it still alive is the city of Shade, which was a castle that Plane Shifted to the Plane of Shadow, and the people were changed. They came back, and now control a lot of Anauroch.

Edit Edit: Yes, the TV Tropes link is talking about the Sarrukh, Scaled humanoids.

They made Faerun, then they made Pun-Pun.

Fear them.

I don't know anything about Sarruhks (besides their importance in the creation of Pun-Pun), but I feel like it could possibly be Saurials - four races of dinosaur-esque humanoids presented in... something FR-related (but were also included in an article or two online). Couldn't that be it? I'll have to go check Google to find the articles...

EDIT: Actually, nevermind - I had the two articles bookmarked from when I used them in a contest entry. You can read them HERE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frx/20030528a) and HERE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040717a), but they're probably not what you're talking about. They're less of an ancient fallen empire and more of a hidden community stolen from another Material Plane by an evil god and plopped down into FR's "Lost Vale" or something like that.

Ah, the Sarrukh. They're featured in the 3E "Serpent Kingdoms" sourcebook. Think WFRP's Slann (minus the lazy frog aspects) mixed with Robert E. Howard's ophidians.

Great, thanks . I'll have to go look up a copy.

One tragic mistake after another...
