It's a fantasy story, there'll be some way. I'm more worried about how habitable it'll be for the Azurites, assuming they successfully take back the city.

Perhaps the OOTS will end up defeating the snarl, so there will be no need for gates anymore.

I think the rift will probably corrupt the city, and nobody will be able to live there.

Well the original rift was still about the size of a person, and they manages to seal it in a gem the size of a baseball approximately, so they may manage to keep this one in something about the size of a house, if that's the maximum compacting that could be reached, though it probably doesn't have a limit.

It was the rift which Lirian's gate is around that was the size of a person. Shojo explicitely stated that the azure city rift was smaller than any of the others.
