So I'm running an ongoing campaign with 5 other people attending, all level 6 characters. I'm a bit tired of all the combat that we are doing and was looking to incorporate a puzzle into my next dungeon. Anybody have any bright ideas for a puzzle?

Ah, never mind then. It was a joke anyway.

It would seem you have to download the actual image to get it to work because it is so large... Anyways, that looks like it would be a bit too difficult for them to solve hahaha

Hint: the answer is 552845446. I'm sure you can figure out something to do with that.

I had no trouble seeing it, but it took awhile to go through it all. :smalltongue:

Well of course I need something that will take no more time than a combat encounter normally would of course.

Give them the new york times cross word to do.

I like logic mazes, particularly this one (http://www.logicmazes.com/theseus.html) and this one (http://www.logicmazes.com/twisty.html). I've used both to great effect. If your players are having trouble and are frustrated by their inability to progress, let them make Int checks for hints.

That won't work, then. The puzzle took hours of a lot of people collaborating to figure out, and another day or so to figure out how to actually solve the whole thing (the number solution was just a clue).

I find puzzles with a creative solution the best.

A big chasm they need to cross.

A big bolder they need to replace.

A baby they have to keep save (as in return through the wilderness/dungeon without putting it in their backpack)

A few powerfull Oozes guarding a tunnel system. They have to scout the tunnels without getting trapped between two Oozes while finding a way out.
Preferably with a big hole somewhere where they can guide the Oozes to get rid of them. If they play bait in a smart way this should work.

Thanks both look promising.

You could put them in some sort of maze. Give them encounters they can pass without lots of combat (sphinx, monsters with a critical weakness that can be deduced, etc.), and reward them with hints for directions.

You could drop them in something like the Undermountain lower levels ($5 or less for a PDF) and have to find their way out.

I believe the Undermountain "Lost Level" was a bit of a puzzle maze.

Tomb of Horrors might work with some tweaking.
