View Full Version : The Isle of Aspergillum - Summer's End Festival

It is the first night of the Summers-end festival, the town has gathered in the serene beauty of the the elven gardens on a moon light night, strings of paper lanterns hang from pillar to pillar, throughout this beautiful and ancient setting. Small candle boats float on the fountain, illuminating the the bright blue water as it bubbles up through the stone. A strange yet familiar scent fills the air, white elven roses, in full bloom, opening their petals to praise the moon. Everywhere there are people, lovers embracing, freinds sharing mead and stories, musicians playing nothing tunes to the night, everyone is content.

The pavillion is alive with the sounds and smells of a feast, chattering & music, beer & roast boar, and all for these fews nights is free, paid for by the lumber merchant Maelin Alerdan & the Baron Richard Halbrook.

In the south-west corner is a large wooden stage, presently perfoming is a young lady dressed in green and gold, she spins heavenly tunes of comings and goings on her silver flute.

In front of the stage is a dance floor and several smaller dining tables, three young elves huddle together at one, giggling to themselves as they watch the festivities, at another is a man playing with a deck of cards, at the last is an attractive young girl wearing a pretty blue cotton dress.

Behind the stage, one on either side are two temporary wooden walls, covered in artworks, oil paintings, charcoal drawings, stained glass, jewelry and the like, in front of the south one stands a wistful looking elven woman, her hair a little messy, as are her clothes, an elf girl stands here also, silvery blonde hair and quite a shapely figure.

On the other side there is no-one looking at the pictures, but leaning on the back of the stage, barely visible, is a man in breastplate with a longsword, his face is like stone, he stands out perhaps because he is the only person here not enjoying themself.

On the north-west side is the temporary bar for the Hatchet & Hearth, Toby Mannix mans one end and a dwarf girl at the other, you can tell she is a dwarf from her face, though Toby has a step setup for her so she can serve without difficulty, two dwarves sit holding hands at her end of the bar, a broad shouldered boy stands at the far end, in guardsman's uniform, he has a baton in hand.

The north side has two food stalls, one serving fresh cooked meats and vegetables and the other a selection of cheeses and fruit, behind the first is an elderly woman with skin like tissue paper and fluffy white hair, behind the second is a robust man, slightly balding on top wearing an apron, and a young boy, with his arm in a sling.

In the centre is a fire pit and several more tables, mostly un-occupied, as it is early in the night and still quite warm.

On the east side is another temporary bar, this one for the Prince of Broken Hearts, Arthur Turnbull the owner stands behind one side, he is a sharp looking man in every way, sharp dress, pointed chin & nose and quite skinny, next to him is a shapely and very attractive halfling girl, she is pouring beers for the many customers she has, lastly in the shadows down one end is a hideous looking dwarf, he is trying to keep the barrels tapped and the bottles of spirits up to demand. At the end of the bar is another guardsman, again with baton in hand, he is athletic looking, like a sportsman.

Lastly, in the south-east corner is a long dining table, filled with people, some well-known around town, other not so much. Side by side in the centre sit Maelin Alerdan & Richard Halbrook, next to them sit there wives, Penelope and Elizabeth respectively, on Penelope's right sits Emilia, and next to her is an empty seat, lastly at the end is a dwarf you do not recognise, he has broad biceps, perhaps as round as his thighs, and Black hair. To Elizabeth's left is Daffyd the Burgomeister, a rotund man and always quite merry, next to him sits Berrin the Blacksmith, he is all you would expect from a blacksmith, muscular and rough looking, he looks quite out of place wearing the finery associated with this sort of event, and lastly at the end is Wissenell, the elven silversmith, she has delicate elven features from her face down to her toes, and is crown by bobbed silver-blonde hair.

Maelkith's crown, but some of these are marvellous! Magenta thinks to herself, taking a final look at the artwork on display. She and her mother Wissenell, and a few others, had spent the afternoon arranging them all on the walls, but in the rush she hadn't had time to fully appreciate them. A richly-woven tapestry catches her eye, as does an epic poem in an elegant hand she doesn't recognise.

A child's drawing of an elven hut is the last thing she notices before she turns away, and she laughs to herself. At least the children and I won't be the only amateurs in the competition. She glances over to the table where her sister and cousins are sitting, and then takes a look at all the people who have come in while she her back was turned.

Most of the occupants are unfamiliar to her, although it is easy to pick out Maelin, her father's employer, and the Baron in his finery, on the other side of her mother and Berrin at the long table.

She raises a hand to wave at Baeln, standing there on guard duty. Her eyes, though, scanning the room, are really looking around for her father and aunt Imrion, hoping against hope that they will attend tonight ... Last she saw them was a few days ago, as they disappeared into the forest for one of their wide-ranging forest-tending excursions. Maybe they'd be back...

Julia finishes her first tune, and the crowd of commoners who had been dancing give her a round of applause, she turns and bows to the crowd, then walks over to her bag, she takes out an odd flute, with two branches to finger on, she takes a deep breath and begins her second song.

Orin Oakenshield

Putting his dinner suit on quickly to get to the party, he carefully examines over his body and head making sure he looks nice and presentable. Making it over there as fast as possible, he is stunned when he gets there. All the nice artwork, performers, food, drink, company. Getting some very tastefully looking roast boar, veggies, cheese, and bread he makes his way to the Hatchet and Hearth (his favorite) bar and gets a mug of ale. While walking to his seat on the north side of the table, he didn't realize that such a thing like this ever existed (except maybe his ideas of heaven). Sitting down he looks everything over again soaking in its beauty before starting to eat his delicious meal.

As there are like four people who chose blue, I'm changing my color to "Navy".
Baeln Athos

Nodding at Magenta with a smile, Baeln changes his stand to relax his slightly stiffened right leg.

How can standing still be more tiring than say, running?

Vague feelings of regret pass his mind as he looks around in the brilliant atmosphere in which the festival is being carried on. The baton weighing almost nothing at his hand, he watches the people intently and tries to be happy for them, instead of giving in to his regret any further. After all, he wished for all this, didn't he..?

He winks at his father as they come to an eye contact, informing him quietly that "everything's okay".

Mart stands admiring the song. This is a very nice festival Abel. What exactly is is for? He looks over to the man shelling out the big bucks for the festivities. For the lumber copany to be paying for all of this, it must be pretty important.m

...he certainly isn't going to win them over with his personal charm.

Henry makes his way over to the pavilion as soon as he arrives at the festival and slips into the seat beside Emilia as subtly as he can. He certainly doesn't want to draw attention to the fact that he's arriving so late.

"You wouldn't believe the kind of adventures I've been having today," he whispered sideways at her, "I would have been here sooner, but I was busy getting threatened by armed men in the 'comfort' of my own home..."

His eyes roam the small crowd gathered under the pavilion, but he doesn't spot Magenta yet.

Magenta Silverleaf

The music catches Magenta's attention as well. She almost sways to the compelling undertone, and the intricate melody makes her smile. As she starts to pay more mind to the music and the performer, she wonders who the lady is. I'm sure I haven't seen her around ... But she's clearly an expert musician. I wish I could write music like that! Maybe she could teach me a little of her skill with composition.

Alix Lundgren

Alix swabs vigorously at the inside of a mug with her cleaning rag as she watches her parents with some consternation.

The festivities were, of course, royal. The pavilion arching away above them, the roaring fire and the specially tended gardens: all of it was spectacular. She was slightly irritated that she was set tending the bar on a night like this. Normally, bartending was her favor job around the Hearth, but she envied the maids and servants who got to spend the night out on their feet, mingling with the crowds and snatching a dance here or there.

Not that Alix WOULD dance, of course. It was the principle of the thing.

Instead, she diligently takes care of her duties under Toby's trustingly spare supervision, and watches with no small embarrassment as her dutiful mother grips her father's limp right hand in her own left. She squeezes it as though maybe, if she could apply enough pressure, it might just be enough to bypass the catatonic nerves and slack muscle of the paralyzed arm, and even coax a reaction from the similarly limp mind housed in the right half of Lem's disfigured skull. With his free left hand—a hand that used to grip a viciously curved kukri with a grip that could parry a forest troll's axe—Lem now sloppily pours ale from an extra large mug into his reluctant mouth. Froth dribbles into his tangled black beard.

With a sigh, Alix leans over with her rag to dab the foam from his lips, managing a weak smile as he grins at her gratefully.

But neither her father's ever-depressing condition nor Toby's delegation of duties was the issue that really plagued her at this moment. Bothered her, yes, but whenever she could spare it, her attention was immediately drawn away to one of the two fierily red-haired men haunting the festival pavilion. Salvatori she knew—she'd almost given him the slip of paper the day before, but hadn't had the right chance. But this newcomer had just shown up, armed and armored, to the festival, out of nowhere. She cannot help but stare at Salvatori, maneuvering awkwardly through the crowd, any more than she can stop the swift glances at this new stranger, skulking meaningfully in the shadows.

Which Jade do I give it to?

Salvatori:

Salvatori shows up to the festival slightly after Henry does. When he gets there, he looks around at everyone in their best finery and then down at his worn clothes that he'd been traveling in. I need to earn some money for new clothes somehow. He observes the crowd as he walks toward the Hatchet & Hearth. What a surprise. I don't actually know anyone I didn't just meet today. Wait... He stops as he notices his brother brooding in a corner. I came to see him, but he really doesn't seem happy... Salvatori decides to avoid his brother for now. He doesn't walk all the way to the Hatchet & Hearth booth to thank Alix like he'd intended; instead, he walks to the art display his brother's not at, hoping the stage will block him from view some.

Trent meanders carelessly about, looking from time to time at anyone that he thought might cause a commotion. No one that he could tell so far, though he had heard about dwarves and too much ale. He grips his quarterstaff-length baton and sighs gratefully, not seeing his mother anywhere near. She was probably just coming to the feast at the end, anyways, and he had an excuse as to why he wouldn't be seen by her. He carelessly looks over the smiling faces and tries to spot someone that would want to cause trouble.

As Julia finishes her second tune and the applause dies down, Baron Halbrook stands from his chair and bangs his mug on the table "Might I have all of your attention please. Ladies and Gentlemen I should like to propose a toast to my most gracious co-host on this momentous occasion. To his health, to his family and to the sucess of his business. For passed glories.", everyone with a drink matches his toast "For passed glories", each taking a drink. After this Maelin stands "I too would like to toast the Baron for his fine hunting skills, in providing such a feast of boar for the day, and in sponsoring the event once again. May his life be long and eventful. Nesh ravanthas, nesh adon" and once again the toast is met.

A few moments after the speaches are done, the crowd is back to it's former state, more toasts are made in smaller groups, and the two bars are being swamped by people refilling their mugs.

Elvish speakers
"Nesh ravanthas, nesh adon" literally translates to "For friends/family, for peace"
Mart
After the toasts are done, Aber turns to answer the question, "Well it is paid in part by the Baron and part by Maelin, he returns some of the taxes this way, good will and all that... I'm not sure exactly what the celebration originated from, though Maelin could probably tell you, I know now though that we are celebrating the end of the hottest of days, and the start of a more productive time"

Demetrios

Just as Demetrios is walking toward the Pavillion, lit up like nothing he'd ever seen, he again understands words in a language he'd never heard before. He looked back over his shoulder towards the column that he'd set Diomedes at, noting the way the mule's coat shone after he'd gone to all the trouble of washing it.

This place is amazing, much more colourful than the old New Year's Festival back home. If they could see me now... His mind flashes with images from the last festival, of his nervousness, his friends egging him on, and of her laughter. His face darkens to a scowl. No! Forget about her! She's in the past. This is now.

As he walks up to the edge, Demetrios looks around for the few people he'd met during the course of the day - he couldn't make anyone out, though they were probably were there. After all, what else would they be doing?

He steps up to the food stall, and asks "How much for a plate?"

Aralthan slept comfortably despite the noise from below, weary of his long journey even though it was far from over. He woke early, leaving him plenty of time to look around the festival. It was only the first day of the festival, but he couldn't afford to delay his journey for long, and would have to leave tonight or tomorrow.

Aralthan drifted through the crowd for most of the day, taking in the sights and sounds of the festivities. He had spotted Eledius earlier, but the crowd was too heavy for him to want to push through at that point, and so he'd gone to relax in the gardens for some time.

Now, however, he decided to try again, and came back to the pavilion just as the lumber merchant - Maelin, was it? - finished his speech. He waited for the crowd to disperse back to their revelries once more, before wandering over to the art displays, casually examining the paintings whilst keeping an eye out for Eledius.

Magenta Silverleaf

Her stomach rumbling, Magenta realises that the group had better eat before they are called up on stage themselves. She wanders over to her family, who are being surprisingly well-behaved.

How little boys can grow up in a year ... Last time, I was practically pulling Erissien out from under everyone's feet! And in front of Henry too, how embarrassing ... The thought of the youngest Halbrook makes her frown momentarily, before she remembers her original plan.

"Children, let's go and get something to eat! Arcil, sweetie, do you want to mind the table, shall I get yours for you? Or will you come too?"

As the children eagerly follow her to the serving tables and babble about which cut of boar they want and who will get the most crackling, Magenta ponders over whether she should ask for a glass of wine for herself. Would her mother allow it? She glances over to the long table, but before she can make eye contact with her mother, a familiar figure catches her attention. She freezes for a moment, then hurriedly turns away and hustles the children back to their table, hoping fervently that Henry hasn't noticed her looking at him.

Salvatori walks around the stage to the Hatchet & Hearth bar. Once he gets there, he takes a seat at the end and waits for Alix to serve him. "Hey Alix, thanks for leading me around today. The dwarven server grins nervously as Salvatori flops down in a stool so close to her parents, but she hops dutifully down from her own ledge to retrieve his order. She returns with a crusty loaf, a thick slice of meat, and a uninspiring, if sizeable, serving of vegetables. Remembering his attitude from the morning, she serves him a mug of milk instead of the hearty ale her parents are drinking.

With several long steps, Baeln approaches the bar of the "Prince of the Broken Hearts", and sets his gaze upon the halfling barmaid.

Without a reason, or maybe because of the common awkward feelings that happen during social interactions, he feels the need to add:

Magenta Silverleaf

The Silverleaf children resume their chatter as soon as they arrive back at the table, barely stopping to take mouthfuls of food from time to time. From Arcil, who is happy to repeat the whole conversation, Magenta learns that the discussion so far has been about the decorations, the gardens, the artwork, the arts competition, the people looking at the art, those two red-haired men ("Just like that old dwarf and his daughter! I wonder if dwarves and mans can be in the same family?") and has just moved on to "Mummy looking so pretty tonight!"

Magenta gently disagrees with the former, pointing out that the dwarves have darker hair anyway. She smiles genially at the last topic, but her gaze stays on the odd group at the Hatchet and Hearth bar. Dwarf and his daughter ... they were called Lundgren, weren't they? She'd seen him around the lumber yards. The daughter she didn't know, but then again she'd never been to the Hatchet and Hearth. And the man sitting with them - now there is a coif she is sure she's never seen before. Bright cyan hair, in amongst the rest of that fire! She half-wonders if he's been cursed.

Her sister's conversation continues, until with a shock Magenta recognisees the words "Henry Halbrook, the Baron's son" and realises that Arcil has been naming the people at the long table for the edification of her young cousins. Odd that over a period of time, a name could become as familiar to her as her own... She tries to keep her face even, but anyway Arcil is oblivious to the consternation she has caused.

"And that's Emilia Alerdan he's with, that's Maelin's daughter! I wonder if they'll get married! Maybe they'll have a huuuge wedding and we can go!"

Dromm

Dromm fills another tankard with ale from the tap and sets it down on the counter. Business was looking slow this side of the pavilion, Artur would have to cut supply if he wanted to stay in business, that or think up a new strategy to attract customers.

Dromm takes a sip from the beer and eyes the large man talking to Nim on the far end of th counter. It was funny to see the two together, the strange man so tall that Nil, already standing on a bar stool, has to go up on the tip of her toes to hand the man his food.

Tipping the tankard to his lips once more, Dromm drains half of it in a gulp and slams it back on the table with a sigh of satisfaction. It really was a beautiful night, and quite an experience. Dromm had never been able to make it out for any festivals while living back in Dwurforge, and while the lords of the underworld had their fair share of parties and flings, none of them measured up to this, with its sense of decency and its air of respectability. A splendid building and gardens, magnificent art work, and, above all, the most beautiful music that he had ever heard. Truly an event to remember.

I should go and talk to Salvatori - at leat I know him. He's probably at the bar with... Alix? The barmaid. But, if I go up to him, I'll probably end up just ruining his evening. Probably safer just to sit here and watch.

Letting his gaze pass over the festivities, Demetrios decides to go over to the stage and artwork. Picking up the plate, he walks past Salvatori and Alix, giving a half-heatred wave, and examines the artwork, listening to the music. It's nice, he thinks. There are some pretty things. Kavri makes his way to the festival slowly. Shuffling and dragging his feet, he realizes he doesn't have much to be festive about. He enters the grounds from the east looking around at all of the happy people. His eyes linger on the discontent soldier, fully armored along with his huge longsword. Kavri's thin rapier dangles from his belt. His bow creaks ominously with the slightest movement, and his light shirt doesn't keep out the cold, much less sword blades. Yes, I am very prepared, he thinks to himself glumly. As he walks deeper into the festival, he spies Salvatori and Alix at the bar and smiles briefly when he sees Jacob playing cards and Julia onstage, but he quickly returns to feeling overwhelmed by his situation. Ugh, I need something to take my mind off of things... no, I just need something in general. He wanders aimlessly about the festival until he sees Demetrios looking at the art in a similar state of discontentment. Misery loves company...

"Hello Demetrios. You look like you're enjoying yourself about as much as the boar... I mean the cooked boar that everyone's eating. Are you eating any? I was going to get some food. What would you suggest?" I am actually pretty hungry come to think of it. If I'm not going to be festive, I might as well be full.

"I met her on the road to Cordell. We both had a common destination, so we decided to go together. I'm going to go get some food. I'll be back." Kavri meanders over to select some fruits and cheeses. Although he is very hungry, he still doesn't feel good enough to stomach a major meal. He returns to the art display with Demetrios. "Hmmm, looks like your compliments have jinxed Julia's music, Demetrios."

OOC: Ack, two cues! I'm going to respond to the first and check for the second...

Magenta Silverleaf

The children hush immediately as the young man approaches their table, but their excitement is not so easily suppressed. Magenta recognises him as one of the lumbermen whom she's spoken to once or twice, but doesn't remember his name. Now seems like as good a time as any to be re-introduced...

"I'm Magenta Silverleaf, and these are my sister Arcil and two of my cousins, Temiren, and Erissien. We've seen you around the plantation, haven't we? I'm sorry, I've forgotten your name as well... "

OOC: Well, apparently that was indeed my cue. I was hoping someone would post in between. Anyway, here goes...

Magenta Silverleaf

An elven woman appears by Trent's side, her tall figure and serious demeanour bringing the conversation to a halt. Wissenell gives him a cool smile and speaks to her daughters and nephews in Common for his benefit.

"Well, children, now that the pipe player has left the stage, perhaps you would like to take your turn?"

Magenta casts an apologetic glance at Trent, and then nods at her mother and the children. As they stand and her mother takes her seat again, she says vaguely, "Sorry, we can talk a bit more in a little while."

The four young elves troop up on to the middle of the stage and stand in a rough line, Temiren with his ocarina, Erissien with a harp and the two girls empty-handed. Then, realising they would prefer not to announce themselves, they all turn to look at Temiren to start.

The dancing tune he begins is simple in its composition and reasonably pretty. Erissien joins in on the beat with a resounding chord, and stays with the one rhythmic note throughout the whole piece. The melody established, the two girls start to sing.

"The lavender blossoms advance across the field
A purple wave, sweeping across a sea of green
I wait in the field for that strange surf to swirl ‘round me
Its violet embrace shall soon encircle me..."

With Magenta's mellow alto voice providing a supporting line, Arcil's more confident soprano alternately weaves and soars through the dreamlike verse, then comes to a hush as they prepare for the chorus.

Henry notices that a new group of musicians is mounting to the stage, but he only gives a cursory glance in their direction... or at least, that was his intent.

The glance turns into a stare when he sees that Magenta is part of the group. The stare turns into a glare when she starts singing.

"That's my poem!" he exclaims in disbelief, "I wrote that for her and her alone! How dare she sing it to the world..."

The song is ended and Wissenell ushers you off stage, so the next performer might give his act. It is Beriss Brag, the town drunk, he wears a clean white suit, and his beautiful white hat, he appears to be unusually sober. There is a little laughter and cafuffle when he gets up on stage, but when he opens his mouth to sing, all are stunned in silence by his angelic voice...

When Beory came to Cordell Vale,
She made the jungle grow.
The greenery sprouted up above,
and rabbit holes below.
The branches all grew nests of birds,
the hollows swarms of bees,
Then Beory danced across the isle
to tend to other trees.

When Maelkith came to Cordell Vale,
The valley was green and new.
He stamped his feet, and from the ground
the Ironwood forest grew.
And with one mighty yell he made
the trees grow tall and strong,
Then Maelkith disappeared, although
he won't be gone for long.

Ehlonna came to Cordell Vale
with men and dwarves and elves.
She gathered us all to tend the woods
and work the land ourselves.
She showed us how to plant, to sow,
to feed the lumber mill.
Then Ehlonna watched us from afar...
Perhaps she watches still.

OOC: Credit for song given to Ingenua, it was to good not to put in somewhere.

As he finishes his song he drops his head to the ground, you can see that his tuned has moved the crowd, as there are many in tears and many more standing jaws open in stunned silence, a moment passes in silence then thuderous applause... then...

Those with actions this round will be PM'd. If you do not recieve a PM you are surprised. Also to PirateJesus I think your initiative may be wrong on you character sheet.

A lone green figure enters the Pavillion, all are shocked by him, a goblin in bone-studded brown leather, his face is scarred by old wounds and marked by fresh ones, he leaps upon a table and raises a black horn to his lips, blowing a long loud note, then yells in an unfamiliar tongue "Tome-los vivos, como escravos para o poderoso Gnurgillum" the words more spat than said, a maliciousness in their undertone.

To the northeast enters a squad, some seven goblinoids armed with cruelly warped bows, they wear no armor, just a loincloth, and have stiff looking bristles instead of hair, their arms are long and simian and their faces cruel. They each level a dark wood & bone shortbow and loose a volley in unison. The arrows whistle cruelly through the air, striking Aber, Merrin, Arthur & Lem.

Beside the stage, next to Erikkin lumbers in a large humanoid, carrying what appears to be a thick four foot long tree branch, wrapped in leather, he swings the club at the guardsman Erikkin, putting the guardsman through the arts display and onto the grass outside.

Mart's action. Once Mart has posted his action I will move on, please be patient in the first round. Also I expect the OC channel to be flooded so bring your floaties!

Mart rushes to Aber's side(moving to C,P).Aber?! Aber!? Can you hear me? ... Damnit. Mart stands back up and turns around, facing the 7 goblins. Well Aber...you wanted to see what I could do. Mart says to himself as the air around him is filled with a loud buzzing and soon multiple sparks of electricity. Placing on leg back to brace himself, mart opens his mouth and fired from it a huge cone of lightning, engulfing the archers.

MartAber groans loudly when you shake him, his is on the floor and the arrow hit him sure enough, you saw it with your own eyes, but it didn't penetrate, how odd. The arrow itself sits next to him on the ground, the end appears to be blunted and wrapped in cloth and leather to make it non-lethal
The goblin archers seem shocked by your breath weapon and only one manages to dodge it's wrath, blue ripples of static run up and down their hairs as the initial flash clears, one of them has hit the ground, writhing in pain, the other two don't look happy.

Sally Windwhistle sees the man-beast club Erikkin and screams a high-pitched blood curdling scream, she turns to run from it and sees the goblin standing on the table and the archers get engulfed by Mart's lightning. She faints, hitting the floor and sending up a gentle puff of sawdust.

A second armored goblin enter the fray, coming in from from the eastern side, he swings his arm over his shoulder, as if beconing something in "Use-as redes, fazê-los em sacos rápido como o" he spits out before slinging a club from his back to his hands.

Orin Oakenshield

Orin shocked by seeing all these events occurring, on such a beautiful night like this, he looks around in desperation for something to arm himself with, he picks up what looks to be a carving fork off the table and shakes it furiously at the goblins, shouting at the goblins in the pavilion, his neck veins popping out in anger, What do you want you...you....you bullies, you. Speak in common no one needs to hear your inferior tongue or have it taint our ears.

A third armored goblin enters the fray, a huge beast in tow, he points at Nim behind the bar, saying to the beast "Pegue um que, a uma bonita" he proceeds towards the centre of the pavillion, kicking over a table for cover.

The beast is tall, maybe 7 or 8 feet, it is stout and brutish looking, it's face animalistic, like a goat with no horns, it wears roughly shod black iron armor and has yellowish skin, he nods at the instructions, and wraps a fist around the delicate body of Nim, slamming her petite body into the bar in one swift movement, she goes limp in his hands.

The troubadour, Julia, reaches into her bag and unsheaths a glinting rose colored metal short sword (no godsbane references please) and passes it from hand to hand, weighing up the enemies.

A way out? Find a way out! Find your mother, get her out of here!
Remember what you're doing! Be a man, by Ehlonna! Be a man!
Trent advances slowly. He was going to do his job. He was going to be like his father. A new feeling started to pump through his veins, but when he spoke, his trembling voice gave away the lack of confidence.

Another wiry looking goblin drags the goblin Mart felled with his breath weapon out of the way and steps into place.

Two short bearded men in black robes step up onto the stage, a great beast between them club in hand, he swings the wooden cudgel at Berriss, the force of the blow heard by all in the cracking sound on impact, Berriss is pushed off the stage and lies prone on the floor below.

A closer look at the short men reveal the have human facial features, but are much shorter, gnomes for sure, the one on the left has a half metal face mask and his right arm is mechanical, his robes are trimmed in gold, the one on the right has a skeletal hand in place of his right arm, and is very gaunt looking, his robes are trimmed in white.

Two goblins lead in a giant from the south, he is roaring and flailing as they drag him into the pavillion by chains latched around his neck, his head touches the pavillion roof as he walks in, and so must be at least 10 feet in height should he stand erect, he sweeps the arts display aside with one swing of his meaty fist and stands towering above the main table.

Maelin stands and draws his rapier and dagger "We must fight, we must all fight" he walks towards to giant in the south, sizing up his goblin handler.

Another short bearded man enters from the north west, his arms are normal skin and his robe is plain black, he is led by two goblins, one armored and wielding a club, the other unarmored and swinging a net, behind him is another goblin, also armed with a club.

Erikkin stands from prone, shaking off the beasts blow, and the splinters of wood, he draws his long sword with a flourish "Come beast, come and get your throat cut."

From the east comes another two goblins leading a giant, he seems calmer than the previous, and has deep pitted and scarred skin, his back has obviously been whipped, he places a foot on the edge of the main table and kicks it over with ease, the flat side striking the children standing at the far end, knocking Temiren & Errisen prone.

Aralthan was partway through his short elven spiel when everything turned to chaos. In the time it took him to collect his thoughts after the surprise and move his hand to the hilt of his sword, the pavilion had seemed to fill with shouts and cries. He didn't even have time to properly count how many attackers there were before the art display infront of him was swatted aside by some giant-like creature, causing him to flinch. Standing only about ten or fifteen feet from one of the large creatures, he felt a lump rise in his throat and fear begin to take hold of him.

But now was not a time for weakness, it was a time for action. Swift and decisive he'd have to be. He muttered in Elven as he drew his long sword, before moving over to a shocked Eledius, putting some space between himself and the creatures, while shouting at Eledius.

((Drawing Elven Longsword, moving to G,S))

Spoken in Elven:

To Eledius: "Move! We must leave this place! To stay is to die!"

Maelin swings his Rapier at the gnome, but he is too quick and the blade swings over his head. He completes his spell with a baleful moan, a wave of thick black energy flows out from him.

Demetrios

Demetrios is, frankly, surprised. Where did all those... How did they... We'll never survive. I need my staff. Where is it?

Casting around, he realises that it's on Diomedes, still standing to the northwest. Calling out, he shouts, "Diomedes, Come!"

Demetrios then crawls underneath the foodstall, moving north, trying to meet Diomedes without endangering the poor animal.

The goblin with the horn (green1) leaps from the table he was standing on and runs over the pavillion floor towards Magenta, he pulls a folded net from out his belt and throws it over Arcil, easily pulling the poor girl to the floor, kicking and screaming.

Two of the goblin archers drop there bows, the first drawing a barbed net and the second a wooden club, he throws the net up over Mart's head, attempting but failing to tangle the boy, the second laying into him with the baton to try and stop him from squirming free. (2 pts. Non-lethal damage)

A giant, wielding a massive wooden club lumber in from the west, shattering what remained of the art display and roaring loudly, particles of rotting meat and saliva dripping from it's maw.

The burgomeister Daffyd, finally gains a bearing on what is happening and draws his longsword, joining Maelin's side, he swings his sword at the goblin, but the green-skin proves to slippery and the blow strikes only earth.

Aber stands from prone and raises a clenched fist to the sky, sparks of electricity runs up and down his hand and he releases a bolt of static towards the goblin archers, as it leaps from creature to creature they convulse in pain and four of them drop from the incantation.

Merrin the widow, crawls under her table for shelter, passing Demetrios on the way.

Jacob, stands quickly, knocking the table over, he takes a broad fighting stance, cards in hand, holding one up it glows an eerie green, he pelts it into the ogre at the eastern side, the creature reeling under it's impact.

The remaining goblin archer hisses at Aber, dropping it's bow it draws a net and hefts it over the large man, surprisingly entangling him and pulling him to the ground.

The large beasts fighting Erikkin swings it's club once again, clattering up against the guardsman's breastplate, he looks winded but does not fall.

All of a sudden a wave of great depression hits Orin. Feeling like nothing good is ever going to happen again he starts telling everyone of it We are all doomed.DOOMED I say. The good world as we know it, is ending. This is the last chance we will ever get. Our last breath before sweet, sweet death comes and marches us off to our everlasting, impending doom. Death is going to take us all. I am not like the rest of you, I see that there is no more in this life of ours. Magenta Silverleaf

Magenta wails at the sight of her sister being dragged away. Instinctively she runs after her and grabs ahold of whatever part of her sister or the net she can reach, attempting to hold her back. All her attention is focussed on the girl and the goblin on the other side, despite the wails of her young cousin. She notices Temiren only to shout at him 'Help me!' - then realises she shouldn't get him involved, and shuts her mouth. She then changes her command to Temiren and addresses Erissien as well: 'No, GO! Under the tables!'

Suddenly she realises that the net is what binds her sister to the goblin. The dagger! But she'd need a hand free...

Is there any way I can draw the dagger? Is there even time left in this round for that? And ... where do the dice come in? :P

J/K, I know there are dice involved, but Don is rolling them right? But ... I don't think this is your ordinary 'grapple'. Also, common sense says I can't hold her and reach for my dagger at the same time, so I'm not going to even try just yet.

Anyway, the one consequence I am sure of is that if she succeeded, the goblin is now dragging net + Arcil + Magenta.

Salvatori:

Salvatori stands dumbfounded for a second as Erikkin is first hit by the monster. Fear clutches at his heart until he sees his brother rise again. Facing overwhelming odds, Salvatori realizes that he has to help if they're to have any chance. Unfortunately... they're everywhere. Even as he pulls his sling off his arm and loads it, Salvatori sees the giant near him and the goblin attacking Sally. He takes a step back whirling his sling, and releases it at the monster attacking Erikkin.

OOC: I thought I'd give my action since I'm right after Magenta in init and it would be easier for you. Attack at -3 (unless I'm not shooting into melee) and damage is 1d4-1.

Don the Bastard

Julia steps over to guard Berriss, weighing the short sword from hand to hand.

The gnome with the skeletal hand steps up to the beast (red1) and lays his hands upon it, blue-grey light flickers from between his fingers. The beast leaps down from the stage and hefts the unconcious Berriss onto his shoulder, he then takes a step towards Julia... bad move.

Julia leaps from the ground, spinning in a wide arc as she does, the flash of rose coloured blade in her hand, the beast stumbles back, dropping Berriss to the floor and grabbing at it's neck, crimson fluid pouring out, it drops to it's knees then over sideways, leaning up against the stage, it's head rolls off and onto the ground. (I love my purple and gold dice they are very cinematic)

Lem struggles off the stool and picks it up with his good arm, perhaps a little of his troll-slayer instincts live still.

The mechanical armed gnome, angered at the fall of his beast, conjures up 5 metallic cones in his hand, he points a wicked sharp metal finger at Julia and they streak accross the pavillion, exploding with black smoke and an acrid smell as they strike.

Abegal cowers down behind Lem.

Lumpy, Henry and Kavri's actions...

Kavri

Everything around Kavri seems to be happening at lightning speed. So much is going on but only a few things stand out and reach Kavri's consciousness. Goblins; we're going to die. Demetrios goes under the table. "We must fight! We must all fight!" and "EVERYBODY BLOODY RUN!" With his head whirling, he acts on his first instincts. He hides under the table, but Maelin's words ring in his ears. I've got to fight. I can't just hide here. I need to help! Kavri takes out his bow, notches an arrow but stays under the table.

Moves to (J,B). I've got the same initiative as Henry, so I figured I'd post since my action isn't going to interfere with his.

"We're all going to die," Henry states with remarkable calm.

A strange peace washes over you when you know for sure that all hope is lost. Though tears may pour from your eyes, though your body may quake with fear, though your heart may threaten to burst in your chest, your mind is in a strange state of calm. Finally, after years and years of stress, the pressure's off. Nothing you do can possibly change anything for the better no matter how miraculously well you perform, so there's really no reason to even try.

This is why the dragon which has slain many armed men may bear no wound. This is why the driver of the overturned carriage may not have even tried to rein in his horses. This is why the man dying of an incurable disease dismisses the apothecary. The victim in each case realizes the hopelessness of action, and so chooses not to act.

The thing about those cases, though, is that they involve solitary victims. A man is more likely to struggle in the face of certain personal death if he has even the faintest hope that his final death throes may aid a the survival of a loved one.

Henry Halbrook is, well, rather far from selfless, but even he can be stirred to action in the face of certain doom under some circumstances. For example, he thinks it would be a terrible, terrible shame if a girl as beautiful as Emilia were to die a virgin.

"You can't die," he says in the same detached voice, stepping closer to Emilia, "I'll die for you. Trust me. Let me do this."

He raises his trembling hands and shoves Emilia as hard as he can, trying to push her out of the line of fire. Then he turns to the nearest villain (probably Green 9) and unsheathes his rapier.

"Come," he says, with a hopeless grin on his face, tears rolling down his cheek, and the tip of his rapier twitching along with the shaking of his hands, "Come and slay me. By the time I'm dead she'll be gone. I win."

He laughs a mirthless laugh.

No, I don't think I could do that in six seconds, but talking is a free action (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TalkingIsAFreeAction), right? Mechanically that was a five foot step into Emilia's space, a standard action bull rush attempting to push her out of the pavilion, or at least as close to its edge as possible, and drawing a weapon as a move action to end the turn, with a lot of free action inner monologuing and stuff going on in between. Any dice-rolling I leave in your hands.

Lumpy

Dromm's eyes widen in horror as the goblinoid creatures disrupt the festivities, sending him reeling back into the keg of ale behind him, but Nim's seizure by the giant abomination snaps him back into reality. The malformed dwarf grabs for the nearest object that can be used as a weapon, his stumpy hands landing on a half-full mug of warm beer.

"Hey y.. you, wipe your ugly face you in.. incestuous, overgrown flea. Why don't you fight someone your... c.. closer to your own size. Or are you so yellow that you can only pick on little girls. You probably can't understand a word I just said, can you..."

He takes a step forward and hurls the clay mug at the creature, trying to avoid hitting Nim.

Move to (R,G) and attack Red Enemy 1, taking my -4 penalty for firing into melee and whatever penalty it is for an improvised weapon, but I am try to get its attention more than to actually hurt it.

It's another -4 penalty for an improvised weapon. Be glad you aren't trying to hurt it.
