Exactly what it says on the tin.

I am trying to recall the name of a trope of sorts. The trope basically states that whereever a famous detective goes, serial killers tend to suddenly appear out of nowhere, and everyone starts dropping like flies. I was under the impression this was called the "Poirot effect", but google says otherwise.

I am also looking for the term for a similiar trope in the superhero genre wherein whenever a new superhero appears, a gaggle of supervillains will spontaneously generate to fight him ("escalation" as Gordon says at the end of Batman begins).

Can anyone point them out?

There ya go: Mystery magnet (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MysteryMagnet) (tv tropes page link included) :smallwink:

Want to cut the murder rate in TV land? Arrest Jessica Fletcher and Miss Marple (wherever they go people turn up dead. Coincidence? As if!), then raze and salt the pretty little village of Midsommer (aka: the Hellmouth of the Home Counties).

Isn't this basically one specific instance of a Busmans Holiday (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BusmansHoliday)?
